rying to do my side projects i am in the process of creating a new shirt design i decided i wanted the other designs for myself since i am not going to sell the old designs i have to create some new asking i m doing great here s the thing i ve been racking my brain all week long trying to figure out what i can do to earn some extra cash on the side and then it occurred to me t shirt design i ve been interested in drawing and making art for a long time i even designed a couple of shirts when i was younger some came out really good because i designed them with sharpies i ve always wanted to make cool t shirt designs but i didn t have regular access to a computer or design programs that would allow me to digitize the drawings also i was a bit younger and cared more about hanging out than getting things started anyway i have recovered from my lazy ways i looked through some of my sketches from high school and i found a few cool designs i could use for my first shirts i also found two that i did in college that were kind of silly so i have a few things to work with in about a week i will be heading back to school and i will begin to work on modifying the designs and digitizing the work my school has a media center where we can use some pretty recent versions of adobe illustrator i will be taking advantage of that as much as possible classes do not actually start until september 1st i will be arriving at school about two weeks early and intend on using all of my extra time for the creation of these shirts my goal is to have my main design digitized by the first week and in the process of printing for the second week by the time the first or second week of school rolls around i will have at least one shirt and a campus full of people to ask for suggestions criticisms or high fives always nice once i get the shirt s printed i will post it here so that i can get suggestions criticisms from people on wordpress any advice at all will be helpful my expectations are pretty high but i am confident that if i don t sell any shirts the first time around with the advice from my peers and their support i will know what to create for the second time around and i will be more successful as soon as i have about 20 designs or so i will launch a simple website with the shirt designs and automate the process making it so that the shirts are only printed and delivered when someone orders them that way i won t have to constantly worry about if my stock will run out while trying to tend to different ventures the shirts that i want to make mostly have little cartoons on them or silly little characters that teens and young people and young spirited people will wear for fun if that works out i will continue on that path if not there are many other things that can be done with design and shirts of course i may not know all of them yet because i haven t researched them but have no fear i will be getting my research on once i have some results from the first few shirts i print out in the mean time i will try to design a few more shirts while i m still sitting at home there are plenty of designers out there making decent money from selling their shirts on sites like http www threadless com and similar sites not to mention several t shirt designers that have their own sites on the flip side there are many t shirt designers that don t make a buck my plan b is to reach out to the successful t shirt designers if nothing works for me hopefully some magical t shirt designing soul will want to impart their knowledge on little old me and i will be one step closer to achieving my goal of course as i go along i realize that this goal is not only financial its also about creating something that i enjoy and something with the possibility of longevity does comment content mills for cash yay or nay posted on july 29 2014 by dilc93 hello everyone in my quest to make some extra income for a graduation trip i took some time to explore all of the options available for me needless to say there were not that many i set a few parameters for myself in order to narrow down to a specific type of job i need a job with flexible hours and of course something that i can do remotely i prefer writing jobs but any other tasks that can be done remotely that do not require specialized knowledge are fair game following these criteria i looked online for remote jobs writing jobs and virtual assistant jobs one thing kept coming up in my search the content mills websites that trap freelancers into doing their work for extremely low wages were prevalent in my searches after a while i decided to give in and check them out i already had accounts on two of the more popular ones but had long ago decided that they were not worth the time i was putting into them i was spending more time writing applications than doing work i was getting paid for and there is the other problem i never got paid of course i was a bit younger and did not really know how to avoid the scammers on the site i went back the other day to give the content mills a second chance and to see if i could start generating some side income while i thought of a better way to make money initially i started searching for writing jobs again unfortunately most clients on the site expect people to write 500 word articles for 3 or less on top of that as a freelancer you get less than what you charge because the content mills take a cut as a freelancer these content mills seem appealing because they appear to be full of work opportunities in various types of fields however they are deceptive i believe it should be quality over quantity but it is the other way around everyone expects jobs to get done cheaply and many jobs are offered but they are not the types of wages a freelancer can sustain themselves on so i say nay no content mills for me for a while i have one pending job application from a company that needs a virtual assistant i will try to get that job but if comment short term vs long term posted on july 23 2014 by dilc93 i ve recently set my financial goals for the year one of my biggest goals is to make 5000 before graduation so that i can celebrate by taking a trip i started looking for flexible jobs compatible with my skill set and i didn t find much when i say i didn t find much i mean that i found plenty of work but couldn t really find any work that i felt was worth my time my main skill is writing any college kid should be able to write a decent paper if they tried that s where i m at i m just a regular college kid and i like to write of the many jobs i found online many of them were on the content mill sites sites which i m familiar with and am not eager to return to those sites pay pennies for content that should be worth more the reason this situation is possible is because too many writers undervalue their content and buy into the idea that anybody can write so a well written piece does not have much value it is a sad situation but a true one now i do want to earn my 5000 before graduation but i am not desperate enough to join a content mill to reach that goal it wasn t easy to come to that decision because the sooner i start producing content for someone the closer i will be to fulfilling my goal i took the whole week to mull this decision over and decided that the short term benefits could wait and that i would rather have long term success the short term benefits would be getting paid for the content i write now long term success would consist of me getting paid for value i produce for another person i ve decided that instead of working for pennies i d work on my craft i am not the best writer as you can probably tell by reading this however i do write well and have potential for growth if i dedicate time to writing honing my skills creating my voice and packaging it nicely to create value for someone that needs it i may gain more in the long run than a few pennies for some articles i wrote back then the problem remains i still have to earn my 5000 i am willing to write articles and essays but it has to be for the right price spending an hour working on an article to only get 2 for it isn t the type of work i m looking for that being said i am at a loss for how to find decent paying writing jobs i also worry about wasting my time looking for jobs instead of actually working i want the short term benefits and the long term success but it feels like i cannot have both for this upcoming week i will continue to look for ways to use my writing i can also do basic data entry and telecommuting work but i am not sure where the legitimate companies that do this kind of work are hiding i will continue to look unfortunately the amount of profit i ve made this week amounts to a big fat zero i didn t do any side jobs but i m hoping that this week my search will be a little more fruitful my goal is a pretty big one but it is also doable in the meantime i will work on my writing and on making art what i don t want to do is leave everything to chance and hope that something comes up i will lose a lot of time doing that and it may not result in anything anyway i m going to wrap this up by saying that even if i don t make 5000 this year i will make something that will open the window for more work and more income and i will be able to make something consistent out of it until work writing leave a comment one year left posted on july 18 2014 by dilc93 i have one year left one more year for writing papers cramming during all nighters stuffing my face with less than healthy food and hanging out with my friends while we pretend to do homework i have one year of college left and i have no idea what i am going to do with my life so i failed to figure out how i was going to financially sustain myself so that i wouldn t have to immediately go into the work force in all honesty i could probably carry out a makeshift plan and hope for the best being as i m young and all my biggest problem with that idea is that i have loans to pay they are small loans nothing compared to what others coming from my same school 0we but it is still more money than i ve ever had it wouldn t be the best idea to jump into something risky without paying them off i m hoping that i will be able to get a job i m even unsure about that now i m still trying to figure out what kind of business i want to start the writing articles for money would be more of a long term goal so would the design i need some flexible job that i can do part time from the comfort of my home so that i can generate some extra income and not be stuck on a 30 000 salary i ve even considered getting two full time jobs if possible this is my train of thought i want to get rid of my loans as fast as possible and save up to buy a house with a single stream of income being one full time job i will be able to cover my expenses with the second full time job i will be able to save up and buy a house i just turned 21 about a month ago so i know i have time but i would rather focus my efforts while i m full of energy and try to buy a house for myself before i m 25 if that first part goes according to plan i will add an even bigger goal my second goal is that i want to be financially independent by the time i m 30 on top of the second full time job i will probably be looking to make some extra money on the side with any free time i have this is where graphic design or writing articles would fit in by this point i should be somewhat established at both because i would have been doing both for almost a decade my hope is that i will not have to waste too much time searching for clients and that i will be able to maximize my time by finding a way to make them come to me if all goes as planned i will find a way to generate enough income for myself by age 30 to not have to depend on a job as of right now the number i m shooting for is 3000 a month i m a very frugal person so my biggest expenses would be rent food and utilities with my house already bought and paid off by age 25 rent would probably not be a big cost which means i could probably bring that number down to 2000 am i looking for a get rich quick scheme no i am looking for something sustainable that will allow me to maximize my time so that i can do more of what i enjoy if i m lucky the jobs i do will be enjoyable and i ll have some good experiences along the way part of me feels like these hopes are unrealistic and un achie...
