favorite book is the usborne encyclopedia of world history as i write this he s pretending to the be the prince of macedonia of course as much as we love history in this house it s not really well progressive if you know what i mean so i m always on the lookout for unconventional history books we are loving the format of heroines great women through the ages brief bio of really awesome women her great deeds followed by brief historical context in which she lived then a map pointing out significant places relating to her life so excellent still there are only 12 women in this book not nearly enough to stand up to arthur s ever increasing body of male centric historical knowledge when we read about eleanor of aquitaine he wasn t nearly as impressed by her independence and power as queen as he was with the fact that she was richard the lionheart s mother so i bring anecdotes from my own reading of from eve to dawn a history of women in the world to temper some of our studies it s a real treat for me to read about feminist issues from the standpoint of history rather than academic theory now if i could just find alternative histories that are violence free i hear arthur decreeing in the background now is the time to defeat all cultures that attack us i shudder and if there isn t a peaceful history book for kids out there somewhere i vow to write one on a totally different note and in honor of national poetry month and my travel bug purgings we re also reading tour america a journey through poems and art each u s state is given a poem painting and snippet of info on what inspired the poem mostly gender neutral gentle reading a colorful twirly girly skirt is on the needles for twin 2 arthur has just requested a reading from heroines and everyone s having a indulgence my wee niece in the cocoon that i knit her last month she just fits but not for long now joining ginny and friends at small things for a yarn along twin 1 now has a skirt that s all done but the blocking of course since i feel much the same about blocking as i do ironing it will probably be sent as is what can i say my channeling hasn t progressed as far as ironing yet plus the ruffle is super ruffly this way i know that i m truly on the ppd ptsd mend because my wanderlust has returned with a vengeance and while you might find it hard to believe given my current reading list i m actually in the process of getting it under control part of the ol renascence i am studying and mapping nope no geographer in this house the to be visited sites in all countries states on my wish list and estimating the amount of time required there example great britain for example is a minimum 9 week visit next i will estimate the costs of said trips both in expenditure and lost income lastly they will be prioritized by the time this process is finished i will have virtually traveled all the places of my dreams so i can burn all my notes and purge this demon that plagues me for foreign travel as i wish it to be is not in my future i m sure we ll get to some of those spots that we most long to see but it won t be for the weeks months years at a time that i fantasize about and that saturday and time for channeling caroline our dishwasher is broken with no sign of repair in sight the dishes have piled up all week the wine has been poured in the background cherry jones begins to read little house on the prairie in her magical way arthur and gaius entertain one another with half an ear to the story i settle in and vow to never spend another saturday afternoon doing dishes no from this very day forward i shall do dishes every day twice a day if i have to perhaps you expected my renascence to be a bit more dramatic engaging enlightening i know i did my last great transformation was pregnancy i didn t do the dishes until saturday then either but in those days there were fewer of them we ate out a lot and there were just 2 mess makers and somehow i imagined that things would change for the better upon my baby s arrival that i would become the domestic goddess i had always imagined being a real caroline ingalls oh yes i was am a homesteader in my imagination but the rest of me never gets the memo i ve written before about my loathing of domestic duties and it s not that i bear the burden of housekeeping alone quite the contrary however my challenges to maintaining a neat and tidy domestic space are shared with my domestic partner we have similarly high tolerances for ehem imperfection to put it nicely we re setting a terrible example for arthur with our slovenly ways of course my own mother was a brilliant housekeeper and look how i turned out still i suppose that s a poor reason to continue avoiding the inevitable domiciles dirty domestics clean with savage beauty the life of edna st vincent millay wherein i encountered ehem for the first time ever renascence oh yes my mind was blown she was only 20 years old when it was first published wow just wow i wish i could have heard her recite it and what a character she was she looks like such a harmless little waif in this photo doesn t she but what a firecracker it s april and i am about to
