but we haven t yet maybe someday that will happen but i wish this country would get its act together and start the process of building a space port on the moon the success of artemis i did present nasa with valuable information regarding the safety and workforce as it prepares for the first crewed artemis flight but nasa is still using 1960 s technology in its rocket design and landing i m surprised they haven t employed some of the designs and technology used by spacex spacex success of using recoverable and reusable rockets is still quite remarkable it s fueling system is quite different from nasa s design nasa uses pressurized liquid hydrogen and spacex merlin engines use cryogenic liquid oxygen and rocket grade kerosene rp 1 as propellants not being a rocket scientist both propellants are highly explosive i don t know just how efficient and thrust power the different systems deliver but it does raise the level of interest for nearly a year spacex has been trying out something new super cooling the liquid oxygen lox which is a key ingredient in rocket fuel it s called deep cryo lox and the idea has been around since nasa began designing rockets in the first half of the 20th century apparently no one actually used this to fly rockets regularly with deep cryo lox an associate professor of aerospace engineering at georgia tech mitchell walker explains why spacex chills its lox cooler than anyone else and whether this is a good idea a new fuel mixture is looking at methane and oxygen which is an interesting approach to a new rocket propellent system it burns
