i was convinced that something fun could be done with them i had an idea but when val posted the puffy paint snowman http learningdevelopmentactivities blogspot com 2012 01 puffy paint snowman html i knew that my idea just got a new twist prep cut cardboard egg carton compartments out they will stand up on their own and they don t need to be pretty make puffy paint equal parts glue and shaving cream i used 1 4 cup of each and it was way too much for 3 snowmen maybe try 1 8 cup 2 t of each to start i felt like i wasted a whole bunch of glue gather supplies paintbrushes cut out carrot nose construction paper buttons beads wiggly eyes or cut out of paper small squares or circles for the mouth ribbon for scarf glitter the decorations are optional so go wild with what you have on hand oh and you ll need toilet paper directions i put down a coffee filter for them to paint on so it didn t get on the table it s easy to clean up so that part is not necessary stuff one carton w toilet paper for stability paint with puffy paint stuff 2 nd carton with toilet paper this allows for stacking like a snowman is built either paint in hand or while on the 1st carton stuff 3rd carton head paint decorate allow to dry before moving should take about 12 24 hours to dry depending on the amount of paint used posted by raegan at 7 47 am 1 comments email this blogthis share to x share to a paper plate ghost supplies paper plate white paper if arms are desired white crepe paper black paper scissors glue or stapler method this is a simple paper plate activity because the end product is white if hands are desired draw and cut out the arms hands either you do this or have your child do it if scissor skills are up to it cut out black eyes and mouth you can draw and cut out or you can draw and have your child cut out or have your child draw and cut out you will know what is appropriate for your child cut several pieces of crepe paper glue or staple all pieces on i like glue because the child can do it but a staple has the potential to hold better posted by valerie plowman at 1 00 am 0 comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest labels child crafts halloween preschooler toddler thursday october 6 2011 spaghetti spider web and handprint spider this is another activity we did last year perfect for october it accompanied one of his favorite books at the time eric carle s the very busy spider creating the web i decided to do this last minute since i had all the materials on hand anyway anyone notice a trend here we do a lot of last minute activities all you need is cooked spaghetti glue and wax paper dip the spaghetti into the glue and then lay it onto the wax paper when finished let the glue dry completely and then peel it off the wax paper it s possible we used too much glue since after j was finished i went back and drop some glue on the spots where the spaghetti overlapped the extra glue did help the web stick together but made it hard to remove from the wax paper obviously j s web is quite sporadic and not at all symmetrical but boy did he have fun creating the spider we traced j s handprints on black paper and then i helped him cut them out removing the thumbs j glued the palm portion of the handprints on top of each other creating the spider s body and legs next j glued black sponge curlers onto the spider body you could use black pompoms the last step was adding the googly eyes j loved this activity especially making the web it was really easy but quite unique becca also blogs at fun and engaging activities i would truly attempt to eat these acorns but feel free to snack while crafting this was one of our autumn activities from last year it s fun cute and easy prep using things i already had around the house before hand i cut out a square with cardboard the original activity said to use a paper bag but i didn t have any i also drew the acorn onto the cardboard i first had j use a brown crayon to color the hat of the acorn and a white crayon for the bottom he then glued the chocolate unto the hat and the oats onto the bottom we focused on trying to fill the entire hat bottom making that the goal at 30 months that was an accomplishment fortunately he had no idea you could eat the chocolate and so didn t try until i suggested it when he was finished with his acorn once the glue was dry we emptied the excess and our final products becca also blogs at fun and engaging activities for toddlers posted by becca at 6 18 am 0 comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest labels crafts fall thursday june 16 2011 papertowel painting this is the perfect painting activity for little ones since it involves very little mess i drew some pictures on a paper towel with a washable marker a and an apple since we were working on the letter a i gave j some paintbrushes and a cup with a tiny amount of water as he paints the paper towel he can watch the marker spread j really liked this craft and it was simple to clean up when j was a little older i started letting him draw his own picture on the papertowels they have to learn to be very careful not to tear the towel when drawing on it if they use too much water the picture basically disappears becoming a tye dye style art piece this is perfectly fine since it s all about the process in my opinion some kids might be disappointed to see their picture disappear however so be warned here are two examples of the final product becca also blogs at fun and engaging activities for toddlers posted by becca at 4 crayon that pile up make rainbow crayons it s super easy very quick and fun to use to color i let the girls choose their own combinations we heated the oven to 300 they are done as soon as the wax melts about 5 minutes if you continue to let them cook they will blend into one color so if you want to keep the rainbow effect keep an eye on them let them cool completely and then peel the paper off and i think it turned out really cute too what you need blank label stickers i actually used mailing labels and cut them down to size construction paper scissors glue black marker what you do have your little one build a wall on the construction paper using the labels once they re finished turn the paper over and draw a semi circle on the back either have them cut out along the line or you do the cutting for them to create the door cut out a second semi circle and have them color a black door then glue the smaller piece on top of the larger one after gluing his igloo together j added some snow to his picture this was honestly supposed to go with a winter unit i was going to do with j but 3rd trimester exhaustion has set in so the unit didn t happen i ended up cutting out the upper and lower case letter i letting him fill those in with ice blocks and decided reinforcement learning was enough this day j was quite proud of his final work of art this idea is from the frugal family fun final installment of simple summer fun this year is on easy crafts there are all kinds of easy to make crafts that you can purchase foamies brand has a whole lot as pictured here craft supply stores like joannes michaels hobby lobby etc have a variety of kits you can buy that are ready for your child to assemble these are simple because you don t have to do any more prep than purchasing the item the downside in my eyes is that these kits cost more money than it would be for you to assemble a craft yourself but hey sometimes time is money right so if you are wanting to do something but don t want to put a lot of brain power or time into it try walking through your local craft supply store and seeing what they have to offer posted by valerie plowman at 1 00 am 0 comments email this
