nt the color was excellent up there and it rained just about every day providing almost perfect conditions for photographing the colorful foliage rushing streams and beautiful waterfalls that the cadillac mountain the highest point in acadia national park is a fantastic place to photograph at sunrise it was completely socked in with fog down at sea level but i figured there was still a chance was one of the most memorable experiences i have ever had as a nature photographer having a gigantic bull elk wander into this scene was just incredible i ve been slowly very slowly improving my images i made from two visits to conneaut oh to photograph shorebirds migrating southwards for the fall winter just like last year when i went to conneaut i found a group of three sora s that ventured out into the open quite a bit it s always exciting to get a secretive bird such as the sora to come out into the open they re always tucked away in some thick reeds so photographing them with a clean posted by alex mody lindy point after dark monongahela national forest blackwater falls state park west virginia august 27 2009 aaaaannnnndddddddd one more from my day in west virginia this image was made the same day as all of the previous wv images but this was taken about 15 minutes after sunset as a layer of clouds blew in from the south i used my singh ray vari nd filter to obtain an eight minute shutter speed for the sky i ve also received some criticism for leaving the foreground so dark but i like it that way and hope you do too please click the above image s to view larger to spent photographing landscapes in davis canaan valley west virginia and migrating shorebirds in conneaut ohio overall the trip was a great success with great light in west virginia and great birds in ohio here s the first of a few images i ll be sharing with you all from this most recent trip i made this photograph atop a favorite rocky overlook in the monongahela national forest chris and i hiked gone on for too long i ve been working hard on preparing photos for my new website and i ve enjoyed a rare week of doing absolutely nothing at all i m getting caught up again with processing photos here are two images i made of long tailed ducks at barnegat this past february i had a great visit and saw tons of birds including but not limited to harlequin ducks long tailed ducks common loon red seeing as i am still six months behind with my processing it ll be a few months in the making that s for sure also i m enrolled for classes at northern virginia community college for this fall where i there i hope everybody enjoyed the past holiday weekend i sat around and did a whole lot of nothing and it was honestly wonderful over the past few weeks and hopefully for the next few weeks i ve been trying to make the most of local summer photo ops i ve been concentrating on the white tailed deer fawns up in big meadows of shenandoah national park sunrises sunsets and the resident great blue herons of great falls national park and i ve been searching for decent locations to photograph least bittern and pied billed grebe since they re among the few area birds that are easily photographed in the summer that we have here if all goes as planned some time soon i ll be making a weekend trip up north to photograph common loons anyhow i ve been making many a sunrise sunset trip to great gulf hagas preserve maine july 3 2009 hey everybordy it has been a while i know i ve been extremely busy since returning from maine and haven t had much time to shoot or work on the computer i m wrapping up with processing my maine shots and here s one i d like to share with you all ian and i hiked the gulf hagas preserve in the north woods of maine on a cold and wet day luckily the cold weather kept the blackflies away however the mosquitoes were in full force this was the first waterfall we encountered screw auger falls and it was by far my favorite please click the above image s to preen machias seal island maine usa or is it nova scotia canada depends on who you ask june 18 2009 continuing with the theme of posting photos from my maine outing here s a favorite of mine from machias seal island ian plant and i went out with bold coast charters on a puffin tour to the island we left out of cutler maine and had absolutely perfect sea conditions for the hour long ride each way once we got on the island it was ninety minutes of non stop shutter clicking i shot about 2000 exposures we had excellent conditions with a light overcast cloud cover and the wind coming from behind us so i shot tons of portraits head shots group shots and even some flight images that i m really excited to process anyhow i m tired and don t feel like writing much at the moment so i ll shut
