Text of the page (random words):
t pink at the top the darker purplish pink at the bottom and some light green in between once dried i took some light green versafine claire in and gave parts of the page a quick rub with it just to make background a bit more grungy which is just the way i like it i then took some pink printed paper and stuck a black framed sticker down on it this is one of those peel and stick stickers that only gives you the outline of your image i then took scissors fussy cut around the sticker i used markers and paint pens to color the inside of the sticker i also took some old very tiny stamps remember wordsworth rubber stamps and added some words to my image i glued my image down then i die cut the bumble bee image i used matte medium to attach her and once dried i used paint pens to color her in and that s my page i thought i would share this one because there is so much homemade background to it don t forget to check out the other designer s art for some ideas too as i already mentioned there are so many ways you can approach a make your own background i love making backgrounds so i m excited to hopefully get some new ideas i hope you re excited about this challenge too and i m looking forwards to seeing your art over at try it on tuesday in the next 2 weeks posted by my name is erika at 4 00 am 18 comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest labels art journal try it on tuesday monday april 13 2026 t stands for winter to spring hi everyone happy new week to you and hello to everyone who stops by bleubeard s and elizabeth s blog for t day last week i started some of my spring chores like taking out some warm weather clothes from the deep recesses of the closet and putting the heavy winter ones away in their place i even started a bit of yard clean up other than this past tuesday which was the day we got an inch of snow we had some beautiful weather last week it felt like spring finally the door even came off the screen porch and we brought a few chairs outside of course in our one day little snow event they didn t look very inviting it didn t take long for most of the snow to melt and hopefully that is it for winter weather last week i went out walking several times one day i went with friends and then we grabbed lunch but of course i forgot to take any photos a couple of times i went up to my mother in law s home and walked the dogs the previous time i had been there to my mother in law s home was 3 weeks before and the lake looked like this last monday i went walking and it looked like this the water still looks cold but at least the ice is gone besides the usual spring clean up around my now empty mother in law s home part of this tree came down i think the rest needs to be taken down too it is the one is missing a lot of bark to the right of the lamppost when i went back later in the week after the little snow event we had i decided to walk the snowmobile trail because it gets more sun than the road there were still a few slightly snowy slightly muddy parts on the road but i only hit one snow patch on the trail it was a lovely walk because i didn t meet a single person i really enjoyed some peaceful time with only some birds singing and the wind slightly rustling the dried ash leaves still dangling from their branches at home we have more signs of spring too the crocuses are starting to bloom and lilies and irises are popping up i decided to give a quick rake to this wildflower garden because i do have some daffodils growing there and last year i never cleaned it out it scared mama bluebird out of her nest for a few minutes i saw her watching me from a nearby tree and as soon as i walked away she flew back in it s not a good photo but you can just see the base of the bluebird house at the top of the white post i also know it s not a great raking job but in another month or so the plants will have filled in this whole area and i didn t want to keep mama bluebird from her nesting business for too long if you didn t see yesterday s post the bees winter enclosure is down and the bees are living their best bee lives the other event we always wait for is when the local ice cream window opens up for the season i didn t get a sundae but for our sunday lunch the hubby and i each got a dish of ice cream i need a drink for t day this week last friday night the hubby and i had a shopping date night we went over to costco in maine to get a few things and we ended up having dinner there too i had a slice of pizza and you can see my cup with my diet coke in it plus the spring peepers a type of frog are peeping me to sleep at night now and there are more birds coming back after the way this past winter went i had a very exciting week how about you have a super start to the new week and happy t day too posted by my name is erika at 6 44 pm 13 comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest labels early spring photos t stands for tuesday sunday april 12 2026 sunday art and bees hi everyone happy sunday to you i hope you re having a wonderful weekend so far today i am sharing a journal page for gillena s trees are awesome aren t they at art journal journey i will also be linking up this page to nicole s sunday in the art room and gillena s sunday smiles plus since i ve used various types of media i will be linking up to creative artiste mixed media challenge blog which this month is 125 and always has a theme of anything goes my page today is more true for last sunday s weather than for today but i was thinking of the quote april showers bring may flowers when i created this page i started with an umbrella stencil and some water color markers then i used watercolor paints to make the colored sky over them i like how watercolor paint took away the sharpness of the umbrella images next i took a crackle stamp and stamped it along the bottom of the page because i needed some ground to base my other images on i painted the tree tops with acrylic paints and used a sharpie to create the trunks they may not look like trees here in new hampshire in april but someplace in april you already have green leaves probably more places than not already have green leaves then i took an older th die as well as a small stack of colored cardstock this is one of those thick chunky dies sizix used to make a lot of not the small metal frame dies that are more popular now so i could cut a big stack of colored house shaped pieces at once i assembled 3 of those images together to make my house on white paper i used a stencil and traced the square shapes that would become the windows i cut them out glued them down and drew in the details i also outlined the house to give it more definition on my page i then took a raindrop stamp impression obsession and some dark blue ink and stamped raindrops all over my page the flowers in the bottom windows are actually each a piece from some cloth trim that i clipped apart and colored in the center i drew in a stem on each i also added a punch out picket fence from a 49 and market image set to finish the page i stamped the eye in the middle and colored it in i also die cut the umbrella and stamped the details then i used a quote from the same hero arts set that the eye and the umbrella image came from to finish this page the other day it was one of our warmest days so far the hubby and i took the bee winter enclosure apart boy were there bees out and about here s the enclosure partially apart it had a roof and another side wall on it which are missing in this photo there were so many bees going in and out at one point there was a cloud of them in front of the entrance once the enclosure was off i opened up the top and took a peek inside there were a lot of bees on some of the left over winter food i had really stuffed the hive with sugar patties and also pollen protein patties in the fall you can see where they have eaten away at the edges over the winter i didn t do a deep dive into the hive this time because the bees were pretty wound up with us down there taking down the winter enclosure and changing their environment but i will take a deep dive into the hive soon however i can report that although they were curious about us and what we were doing they were not aggressive and no one was stung of course we weren t nervous and just ignored them so they just went along with their own business as we were with ours i left the bags of half decayed garden leaves under the base to block any spring wind but other than that here s the hive now i m really excited that with the very long very cold and snowy winter we had the bees actually made it in another month my next batch of bees will arrive so hopefully this year i ll have 2 hives i have tried this before and never had any luck so we ll see what happens have a great rest of your weekend and start to the new week posted by my name is erika at 5 40 am 25 comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest labels art journal art journal journey bee photos creative artiste mixed media challenge gillena s sunday smiles sunday in the art room friday april 10 2026 friday faces hi everyone happy friday today i m joining nicole for her friday face off and gillena for her friday lunch break i keep a daily journal where i write whatever i want to record and where i make quick sketches of things i usually draw in pen i like a black lepen because it dries quickly and doesn t tend to smudge and then i used some markers to color in the image some of my drawings come out better than others especially if i have some practice drawing with a particular item the whole point of drawing in pen is that i don t want to take hours to fill in a page and i don t want to write words in pencil nor have to outline a pencil drawing with a pen if a particular drawing doesn t come out great i just move on in other words my journal is not a finished piece but more a place to record things i want to remember and a place to experiment with drawing something and surprisingly i learned that sometimes having a really awful drawing to look back on is a good lesson to see what not to do next time since i need a face or faces for today here s some of the animal faces i have drawn in the last month that i am very happy with above a sleeping barred owl and below a pheobe i ve been trying to improve how i draw birds i don t need to have them be perfect but i also don t want them to be strictly cartoons you can see in this next drawing that when i mess up with the drawing pen i use a white pen uniball white signo like an eraser and cover up the mistake with it this next guy is barney the seadog brewery mascot and finally the long eared owl i saw a few weeks ago i ll finish this post with some views from easter well sort of easter my husband did a trader joe s run before the holiday and he brought me home a couple of surprises one was a bouquet of some tulips and some daffodils he also brought me this box of italian chocolate easter eggs which were very very tasty each color was a different flavor there were dark chocolate milk chocolate coffee flavored chocolate and hazelnut chocolate eggs the color arrangement of the eggs was also eye candy to me also have a super start to your weekend everyone posted by my name is erika at 5 01 am 30 comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest labels friday lunch break friday face off thursday april 9 2026 thursday art hi everyone happy thursday today i have some art for a couple of challenges to share all my art is inspired by some of the latest birds at the feeders i ve started having some crows feeding in my yard they ve been in the woods for as long as i can remember and i ve seen them flying overhead but i ve never noticed them looking for food in the yard they are my inspiration for today s art this first piece is a tag that i ll link up over at tag along and atc s brenda is hosting this month and her theme is blossoms butterflies and birds i was just randomly inking some tags one day and i really liked these 4 colors of versamark claire together i stamped some bare trees from a newer alison bomber paper artsy set the words are also from one of alison s sets i had some scrap trim an old die from cheery lynn on my work table it didn t quite balance fit along the bottom but i still decided to go with it because i liked how the lace finished off the tag i also added a small image fussy cut from a ciao bella piece of paper over the part of the trim too i put a tiny th half person to the center of the eye the crows come from some clear printed tape i have no idea who made it but i wish i did because i d love to find another roll i like to use it by cutting out the crows individually the moon is from a set of metallic paper images that i ve had for decades i finished my tag by using a bit of glitter glue to make some stars starting to come out my art journal page is one of those not so successful ones i am sharing it because even though not every page works out the beauty of art journaling is that it gives you a place to learn from your mistakes i learned here that i shouldn t have used the black watercolor paint on the background i m linking this page up to gillena s trees are awesome aren t they challenge over at art journal journey i originally cleaned a stencil off on this page and i don t really mind the brick effect i then took a penny black bare birch tree stamp and stamped it twice to make the image tall enough to fit the page i had to do a bit of fixes to the 2 images with a pen to make it become one tall tree and i really like how that worked out i fussy cut out some of the crows from the roll of clear tape i mentioned above and i added them on some tree branches then i used the black watercolor paint to make a light wash that wash was definitely too dark i do like the black watercolor splatter i added after i added the wash though i decided to finish the page with a small tag the stamped the dusk word from the same alison bomber set as is on my bigger tag and i filled in the hole with a black fastener the wooden leaf was sitting on my desk so i painted it green and added that finally here s three photos i snapped through the window those crows are quite skittish of those crows who inspired me i love the expression on the one on the left i m not sure if it was because he noticed me a few feet back from the window and was watching me or the look was meant for his partner and here s a photo from the other day when we had sadly a taste of a little more winter and luckily that taste didn t last have a super rest of your day posted by my name is erika at 5 29 am 14 comments
