comments hi everyone y all staying cool on these hot hot days i want to do at least one more april post then i ll do one from our current day april 15th we went over to the stow mini city for quinn to ride her bike we always enjoy playing hide and seek among the little buildings there s a big playground right next to this area too so we re always able to play there after there are planes that fly over it from kent aviation school i believe and tripp just loves it after each plane passes he ll point to the sky and sign more our meals have been so easy lately that night we had some variation of a taco i decided elaborate meals are just something that have to give in this season of life also the more time intensive and fancy the less likely the kids will eat it so we stick to the tried and true with a new recipe mixed in maybe once or twice a week we focus on a protein veggie and carb and call it a day quinn adorably labeled our names at our seats for dinner that week and even made one for moose above his dog bowl so sweet april 16th i put down the bottom of the sandbox almost all ready i wanted to wait until most of the rainy season passed before filling it though i also got my hair refreshed that day tripp is getting so much better about me being gone for extended periods the year mark was such a turning point for the separation anxiety and he s just getting better with it all the time that evening we ordered in honeygrow one of our new favorite spots after eating our food we headed to downtown cleveland for a guardians vs orioles game dj is a huge orioles fan so we definitely wanted to see them while they were in town tripp was all about it he was dancing jumping kissing me out of pure glee lol but then quinn two minutes in said it was boring it was quite the hilarious juxtaposition we stayed for an inning then headed down to the kids area they did not have this when we were young but it is awesome they have a little fenced in area with various baseball themed play structures to climb like this bat and baseball a large enclosed slide and another area where they have play cars kids can zoom around and slide down ramps on we had to laugh because tripp beelined for the pink car since that s what he uses at home they had a blast i d love to visit again one more time this season i do feel like a traitor walking around in a family of os gear i m not personally wearing any dj is a die hard fan so i will support him brainwashing our kids to love the o s i do secretly want the guardians to win though also super random but a bird became a bit truck bed cover never seen anything like it before a bit of a bummer for dj s truck which was covered in bird droppings but kinda fascinating too april 17th my aunt terry uncle pat arrived woohoo i absolutely love our time with them and was counting down to the minute they pulled in i put together a little board to munch on when they arrived around 2 30 they immediately jumped into playing with the kids quinn and aunt terry got to work on some legos they brought for quinn where s tripp moose loved having his cousins here i didn t get a picture of it but you all have probably seen it plenty in past posts for dinner we had the venison sloppy joe mac and cheese my uncle pat really liked venison so it was a no brainer what meal i wanted lined up while they were here after dinner we played outside for a while it was a gorgeous evening april 18th we had a nice easy start to the morning i love making big breakfasts when we have people staying with us so we loaded up the classics some annie s cinnamon rolls i d love to try to make some sourdough ones from scratch soon chicken sausage quiche berries yogurt and pancake puffs and at some point during the morning this guy got covered in stickers we may have to give him some extra steak for his birthday this year he s a trooper my aunt quinn and i ran some errands that afternoon we grabbed some nervous dog coffees and then headed to walmart it was a rainy day so we didn t feel so bad about being indoors once the rain stopped we went for a walk and halfway through quinn said she had to use the restroom it was quite a sight me sprinting through the neighborhood in sandals and a big wagon trying to make it home before an accident lol we did make it phew that evening we had one of our favorite pork dishes it s a p ork shoulder s uper easy and tastes like restaurant quality it was not ideal timing but our nespresso machine went caput that weekend i use my simply good coffee machine in the morning and have nespresso in the afternoon but dj drinks nespresso first thing we ultimately decided to get the new vertuoplus one and have been loving it way more than the older brand pictured above the new one has an up and fall for it my thoughts on our culture s obsession with being thin published on june 30 2026 by mackenzie 8 comments trigger warning an eating disorder and exercise addiction discussed hi friends i interrupt our regular irregular programming to discuss something that has been on my mind heart lately it s pretty evident we have returned as a culture to harmfully overvaluing thinness five minutes on the internet and you re likely getting some form of the message that thinner is better ads for weight loss drugs abound hollywood stars are simply emaciated i worry so much about young girls growing up in this the way much of my millennial generation did and i actually think they have it worse because of parasocial dynamics at play with influencers that i certainly have heard pushing this thin at any cost message i don t feel like i have authority to speak on much but i do feel like i have some perspective on this topic it s not something i ve discussed much on here but i have struggled and recovered from an eating disorder exercise addiction at that time i achieved what some may have said was the ideal body but what was the actual cost i was constantly consumed with what i ate and when and my workout routine i would wake up on holiday mornings and before i allowed myself even a bite of food i thought i had to earn it through some intense workout and if i didn t workout i was anxious all day long i didn t have a period for over 5 years i was infertile i used to wonder if i could eventually have kids how i would ever have time for rearing them around my intense workout regimen my hair got so thin i got extensions at one point i ate so much processed diet food sugar free fat free etc that provided no actual nourishment i sometimes used wine to escape the constant noise in my head which obviously was a harmful way to approach alcohol i used to isolate and plans stressed me out because i felt i had to be the smallest possible to see anyone go on trips or attend weddings like what i used to make two dinners so i could eat my safe salad while my husband ate something else those are just a few examples and the absolutely insidious part it was never enough i remember seeing photos and thinking i needed to lose more i always wanted to lose more i truly think this trend is evil because you know what being concerned with being skinny above all else does it makes you a shell of yourself it robs you of your light the obsession to be thinner is a losing game and one that costs lives listen this is so serious anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness i want to share these details because i hope it s a wake up call to anyone that may not understand the pernicious nature of this fixation on thin with our culture so what s on the other side of choosing to focus on being healthy rather than just making yourself smaller at any cost it s being fully present it s learning to intuitively eat real delicious satisfying food and living in the amazing freedom within that it s feeling the broad spectrum of human emotion rather than living within this anxious robotic bubble i laughed for real for the first time in a long time after getting to a healthy weight my relationship with food became fun fluid and not all consuming but there s so much more it s being able to have babies i had my two little ones because i gained 20 lbs it s being able to sleep restfully rather than being wired from cortisol it s making plans spontaneously it s cooking and eating the same meals with your family and friends it s being a better human being because you re focused on others not just yourself it s moving your body in a way that feels good and is making you stronger physically and mentally not exercising as a punishment or obsession it s living it s a hard road to make this mental shift but so very much worth it i had professional help shout out the ha society a ton of support from family close friends and dj could not have been more supportive he still is especially on those days that those thoughts try to creep back in i look at what i put my body through and praise god my mind and body were both able to heal a few days ago i went through my closet and got rid of every single xs piece of clothing i could find i know my body personally and if i ever am able to fit in those clothes again then i know i m not a healthy weight no point keeping those around i know this whole post is very specific to my own experience and can be different for everyone and obviously i m not speaking to those who are naturally healthfully xs or insert caveat i m strictly speaking to those like me that have to sacrifice their lives and health to be on the lower end of a normal bmi i have so much more i could say but i guess the tldr version is from someone who has been there please don t listen to the message that value and beauty come from being skinny healthy looks different on everyone and it often doesn t reflect the societally pushed image sending so much love to anyone struggling if it feels impossible to overcome please get help your mind literally changes as you recover it is possible mackenzie share the love everyone how are you i m looking forward to jumping into the rest of april and then into may i might jump between past and present posts since i m now about 2 months behind surprise to absolutely no one haha april 6th was a rainy monday it worked out nicely to get the cousins together that day ender had off school so gigi and gordie brought over him and emelyn to hang out with quinn and tripp they had a blast and i m grateful we can do things like that on a whim living close we had gymnastics that evening it was a fun day april 7th i went to little oaks market a new boutique market that opened nearby every time we have tried to go it s been closed this time it was also closed but i didn t realize it until i went up to the door the owner saw me and said i could come in she was so sweet and another mom we have kids of similar ages and chit chatted all about that she and her husband run the shop it s an adorable place they have so many great finds in there from items like sourdough english muffins local honey cookbooks soap oils cute kids clothes and toys and a wooden carved map room it s expensive but the perfect spot for shopping for gifts plus makes me happy to support their sweet family i have been wanting to start using local honey so i m glad we found a spot that sells it it s delicious that evening i made tofu rice and peppers quinn has been so veggie averse except mixed veggies so i made the peppers in a little rainbow shape trying to make them enticing it did not work lol this was a tasty meal though that evening we did a walk in the wagon with bubbles we either play the silly miss lily playlist or danny go playlist on walks the danny go playlist on spotify has been so clutch it keeps them happy for long periods on walks and at bath time april 8th my friend amy came over with her kids mark and kate for a play date i always love our time all together april 9th we went to the zip line park quinn can pretty much do the zip line with no assistance now that evening we had a slow cooker chicken and dumpling recipe that was awesome i have a note on my phone of must save recipes and i added this one to it i also have been loving these vegan bites lately they taste like cookies but have no added sugar the kids love them too april 10th we enjoyed a beef stir fry we really wanted to go on a walk that evening the cabin fever was real so we went out in the rain the kids were covered by the wagon top and we just had on our hoods the fresh air was so needed as crazy as we looked being out there april 11th we went to the zoo my sister in law gifted us zoo passes so we will be here lots this year the kids really loved the bear who was sunbathing ️ on our way home we grabbed some food from mustard seed we realized we had a couple mice get into our garage over the winter so the next couple weeks we tackled the clean out we geared up in n95s and gloves and basically threw out everything anything we wanted to salvage we sanitized the heck out of and sprayed every inch of our garage with disinfectant it was a process but was such a relief to have done the saddest thing to get rid of was quinn s rocket ship the large box our
