greyhaven hat wednesday october 22 2014 happy wednesday little change of plans this week i have a finished knit to share with you today i managed to snap a few photos after the fog lifted this morning i fell in love with the greyhaven hat pattern by robin ulrich last year and started knitting it around christmas time i made a mistake a few rows into the lace pattern and had to tear it out this past weekend i finally got around to starting it again michael took the entire weekend off from work so i decided to do the same on sunday we stuck close to home watched football and just relaxed i started this hat again and i couldn t stop knitting worsted weight yarn projects come together so quick i used sweet georgia trinity worsted in silver that i picked up last winter at the knot house seriously cute yarn shop in frederick md i didn t want the hat to be quite as slouchy as the original so i skipped a lace repeat next time i think i d do the same but also cast on less stitches and do less rounds of the pattern it s a little big overall i may try to shrink it at some point but we ll see i love love love the top of the hat the crown shaping is so pretty i loved knitting the lace pattern it s got some really beautiful details i ll definitely be knitting this one again next though i d like to knit either a citadel hat a schwimmen hat or the matching greyhaven cowl or everything haha i want to knit all the things for more details on my hat see my ravelry posted by jeni baker 5 comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest labels knitting weekly snapshot tuesday october 21 2014 happy tuesday it s good to be back in this space this week i had plans to post some finished projects last week and then the weather was all rainy and dark so i couldn t get the photos i needed then i was going to post one of those projects here today but i managed to delete the photos before i transferred them to my computer whoops so it s a snapshot post today instead i sent some quilt tops that had been hanging around to melissa of sew shabby quilting last month one is bound hopefully i ll be sharing it later this week and the other has binding waiting i am totally addicted to having things quilted i m not going to lie it relieves a lot of stress for me and i feel like i can focus more on the parts i truly love win win two weekends ago i sat down to experiment with sewing knits on my serger my geomteric bliss knits arrived but i wanted to practice before cutting into them i was able to make a successful knit scout tee i still can t believe i made it honestly i will take photos of it on at some point i used jen s tips for making the pattern from knits here i started my q4 challenge project for the eat sleep knit yarnathon at the beginning of the month i am making the daybreak shawl by stephen west i am really loving it and was so excited to try knitting stripes for the first time they re really fun i m using madelinetosh pashmina in moonstone and cephalopod bugga in bold jumping spider i now have seven stripes of each color knit woo see more on my ravelry this past weekend michael and i headed down to fitchburg to pick apples and pumpkins it was a little chilly so we had to break into the emergency bag for hats when we got there but we warmed up pretty quick i had never picked apples before so i had been wanting to go for a few years now i m glad we finally got around to it it was so cool we had a great time the only natural thing to do with a bunch of apples it bake a pie right i had never baked an apple pie before so it was fun to try out something other than pumpkin pie i used this crust and filling recipe from smitten kitchen it turned out really good we didn t have the right apples but you couldn t really tell the crust was perfect i will definitely use that recipe again george baby have a great day posted by jeni baker 2 comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest labels email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest labels favorites aurifil thread collection projects thursday october 9 2014 happy thursday today i have a few projects to show you that i made this past spring to feature my aurifil favorite things thread collection i found the photos hiding on my desktop and realized i had never posted about these projects first up is a mini quilt i love to make mini quilts and was in the mood to play with really simple log cabins this came together in an afternoon i used nordika for this mini and i love the play between all the different prints for the quilting i used a triple zig zag stitch with the stitch length and width turned up and the teal thread from the collection it s super quick using this stitch for quilting the thread looks so shiny with the rich colors of nordika to finish this mini quilt up i used a teal squared element they re perfect for bindings next up a simple patchwork pillow i never tire of plain old patchwork and it really suits dreamin vintage adding quilting to a pillow gives it so much comfort in my opinion i quilted this pillow using the light blue thread from the collection with a simple loopy meander the pillow is finished off with a zippered back which is my preferred way to finish a pillow finally i wanted to come up with a project that not only used all 12 threads from the thread collection but also used fabrics from all four of my fabric collections enter this funky zipper pouch i knew i wanted to use strips of my prints but i added the solid portion so that you could better see the different thread colors i was surprised by how well the prints from my different collections play together maybe a quilt with all of them is in order i quilted the back of this pouch with a serpentine stitch using the dark purple thread in the collection you can find both the small and large thread boxes in my shop posted by jeni baker 4 comments email this blogthis share to x share to
