e a doctor in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths proverbs 3 6 tests showed it was breast cancer and the tumor was almost an inch in size it was fast growing and invasive on june 30th my doctor told me there was a 95 chance it was cancer about a week later the official diagnosis came it was a heavy moment and yet god held me steady god is our refuge and strength a very present help in trouble psalm 46 1 when my doctor asked about treatment i chose not to do chemo and decided instead to have the breast removed my surgery was scheduled for august 13th and the weeks leading up to it were filled with appointments decisions and unknowns but i was not alone god surrounded me with people who prayed for me family friends my workplace and my church family bear one another s burdens and so fulfill the law of christ galatians 6 2 there were hard days but god carried me through each one he provided everything i needed financial help time off work a skilled surgeon and a caring medical team i felt his presence again and again i will never leave you nor forsake you hebrews 13 5 the surgery went well no cancer was left behind and it had not spread to the lymph nodes i healed quickly and today the scar is barely noticeable i have been cancer free ever since he heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds psalm 147 3 i praise god for his goodness he was my peace when fear tried to settle in he was my healer and strength he was my light in the darkness and he still is the lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he sarah fowler leave a comment ezekiel 24 verses 1 14 the parable explained what does the pot represent jerusalem imagine putting a big pot of stew on the stove the kind that takes all day to cook as it boils everything inside gets hotter and hotter until what s in the pot starts breaking down in ezekiel 24 god gives the prophet that exact picture the pieces of meat the people god tells ezekiel to see jerusalem as the pot and its people as the meat inside the fire underneath isn t for comfort or warmth it s the fire of god s judgment meant to expose corruption and boil away everything unclean sometimes we may think to ourselves like they did we re god s people nothing bad will happen to us the image of the pot plays off a sense of false security as in this passage we may begin to see ourselves as the safe meat inside the pot protected from fire but god said the fire was for them because of their sin jerusalem s corruption and violence in ezekiel 24 and earlier chapters like 22 god calls jerusalem the bloody city that s because the leaders abused power and took bribes the people turned away from god s laws innocent people were killed worship became empty or mixed with idols the deeper problem the biggest issue isn t just about bad behavior we do the same thing today falling into spiritual pride and hardness of heart ignoring god s warnings and taking his patience for granted we can become comfortable in our sin he tells ezekiel to see jerusalem as the pot and its people as the meat inside the fire underneath isn t for comfort or warmth it s the fire of god s judgment meant to expose the city s corruption and boil away everything unclean this powerful image reminds us how god sometimes turns up the heat in our own lives and communities to reveal what s really inside our hearts this passage wasn t just about jerusalem long ago it speaks to us today how does that relate to us today we may not live in ancient jerusalem but we can fall into similar patterns today as individuals communities or even churches injustice ignoring the poor favoring the powerful or disregarding cruelty hypocrisy claiming faith but living in ways that don t reflect god s heart pride thinking judgment won t touch us or that we re good enough on our own spiritual numbness becoming so used to wrongdoing around us that we stop feeling grieved by it the fire god s judgment and his refining work in ezekiel s vision the fire under the pot represents god s judgment the heat of the babylonian attack that would expose jerusalem s corruption but the picture also helps us understand what god sometimes does in our own lives when we go through seasons of testing struggle or conviction it can feel like we re in the fire yet god uses those times to purify us bringing hidden things to the surface so we can see them repent obey return to his will and move past the pain and discomfort at the time hope after the fire of testing the fire isn t meant to destroy us but to clean us much like metal is refined until it shines again it s an act of love mercy and compassion giving us a fresh start and helping us become who god wants us to be we have the chance to come out better after the fire of the pot even when he turns up the heat his goal is purity and renewal to give us clean hearts and bring us back to himself teaching point we need to be cautious that we don t fall into sin corruption and unrepentance being blinded and drifting far away from god conclusion ezekiel s picture of the boiling pot reminds us that god s fire isn t meant to destroy but to renew when life s heat turns up it can be painful and confusing but god often uses those moments to clean and refine us to bring us closer to his heart just as metal is purified by fire until it shines our faith grows stronger when we let god work through our struggles his refining is an act of compassion not anger a loving call to repent obey and step back into his will if we trust him through the process we ll come out of the fire more faithful more humble and more like the people he created us to be through the fire god isn t trying to destroy us he s inviting us back into his coming when no one can work while i am in the world i am the light of the world these words remind us of the urgency of doing god s work while we have the opportunity jesus is the light of the world and as his followers we are called to work in that light but what does that mean for us today the urgency of god s work jesus knew his time on earth was limited and he was fully committed to fulfilling his mission while was here though he doesn t physically walk and talk with us like he used to he lives in our hearts and we get to be in his presence and partner with him he is still working and completing the father s will the same applies to us now we are given a window of time to serve god through a relationship with him love others and share the gospel we don t know how long that window will last so we shouldn t delay in doing what god calls us to do the light of christ jesus being the light of the world means that he is the source of truth love and life when we work in his light our actions are meaningful full of purpose and guided by him without jesus our efforts are empty like working in darkness without direction true love compassion and service flow from him alone working in the light following jesus means that our faith should not be hidden this isn t about showing off or seeking recognition but about boldly doing the lord s work in love when we care for others serve with kindness and live out our faith we shine his light in a world that desperately needs it a call to action jesus words challenge us to take action are we making the most of the time we have to serve god are we working in his light or are we relying on our strength let s choose to work while it is still day walking in step with jesus and reflecting his light in all we do we are his disciples and we are to carry on the mission of jesus we do this by prayer and relationship with him we can do the work he has called us to loving others praying and believing for healing and sharing our stories we have testimonies of his work in our lives and we must share them with others in doing so our work is similar to that which was done in these scriptures we are the evidence of god s window email like loading jesus and the samaritan woman breaking barriers to save the lost september 23 2024 sarah fowler leave a comment in john 4 jesus encounters a samaritan woman at a well this encounter reflects jesus heart for the lost his teaching on true worship and the power of a transformed life jesus desire to save the lost jesus intentionally breaks cultural norms when he speaks to the samaritan woman during that time jews and samaritans didn t interact and men rarely spoke to women in public yet jesus crosses these barriers showing his compassion and desire to reach the lost in this moment we see that jesus isn t concerned with what society expects he sees her as a person who needs the truth and salvation jesus is not a respecter of persons he shows no favoritism to him we are all his favorites and his love reaches across all divides cultural racial or social the compassion of jesus when jesus asks the woman to get her husband she may have been trying to shut the conversation down because it was uncomfortable but jesus doesn t condemn or shame her instead he reveals his knowledge of her life with compassion and gentleness he knows she s had five husbands and lives with a man who isn t her husband yet he doesn t judge her for this rather than closing the conversation his response invites her to a deeper truth and grace jesus uses his knowledge not to accuse but to offer her a way to redemption true worship spirit and truth in their conversation jesus brings up an important teaching about worship he tells the woman that a time is coming when worship will no longer be tied to a specific place whether on a mountain or in jerusalem instead true worship will be in spirit and truth this means that worship isn t about physical locations or rituals but about the heart and the truth of who god is jesus emphasizes that this kind of worship authentic and spiritually grounded is what the father is seeking anyone anywhere can worship god genuinely revelation of the messiah as the conversation deepens the woman speaks of the coming messiah who will explain everything in a powerful moment jesus tells her i who speak to you am he this is a rare instance where jesus directly reveals his identity as the messiah at this point the disciples return from buying food unaware of the profound exchange that has just taken place transformation and witness after her encounter with jesus the woman is transformed leaving her water jars behind she rushes into town to tell everyone about the man who knew everything about her the messiah her testimony is powerful many samaritans believe in jesus because of what she says and later they experience him for themselves this story reminds us that jesus reaches out to the lost regardless of who they are or what they ve done it teaches us that true worship is about more than rituals or locations it is connecting with god in spirit and truth we are reminded that one person s encounter with
