topics kept in jars scene in a museum where there are large specimen jars of animals and plants that have been preserved memory has brought along a large magnifying glass book is carrying a guidebook for the museum a curator is half asleep sitting at a desk memory what will happen to us when we die book do you think they will pickle us memory like eggs you mean book when we are dead memory oh you mean like the hall of fame to remember us book i think i d like mine in gherkins with some of those little red bits the peppers memory but not the seeds they get stuck under my dentures book they ll have a curator i expect to go around every now and again and check the tops don t go pop memory they won t need a sell by date on them book they ll use alcohol i expect memory they might let us choose the horizon to the sound of clinking milk bottles as three gold top were place on the blackened doorstep of mrs alma jenkins whose tomcat dewi had just finished his rounds among the bins in the alleys of arthur street the striking of metal shoe against the cobbles as gunnell s dairy cart moved on inside the snoring of tom jenkins thundered through the cracks in old pine boards where insomniac mice covered their ears their bellies full of red leicester cheese whilst the clock ticked mercilessly on as if doomsday not dawn were to be announced until two hands met with each other and unleashed an ear splintering roar that had chickens leaping from perches and double yolkers splintering on the ground then the knock knock on the glass pane as gas lights along the street were doused squatting upon the chimney tops the fiery ball announced the beginning watched by two fat pigeons waddling across an overgrown kerb as the call came for the shift at the blast furnace mrs alma jenkins untangled because someone told you it was right hey thank you for making my friends my enemies so more and more people hate us from overseas hey thank you for insulting them whenever you get the chance hey thank you for putting thugs upon our streets to kill american citizens you do not like to wrench children away from their mothers because their skin looks a little different hey now we re the laughing millions removed during efficiency season a man acting for his family in desperation led blindly down the alley of temptation another casualty of misinformation why do we condemn him without hesitation the man in the mansion plays a similar game the odds stacked in his favour when the call came they don t call it gambling that sounds so uncouth it s a game they were taught early in their youth to want more and more and just how to cheat with power there s no need to be discrete there s never enough they always want more knowing their profit is paid for by the poor shielded on high
