shows 1 comment dracula 2025 i went into this movie expecting it to be a lot more like the 1992 dracula by francis ford coppola based on the trailer and i should have known better because what i forgot to do was take into account that this film was directed by luc besson luc besson is a french director who is a bit more avant garde when it comes to filmmaking he s the guy who is responsible for the fifth element and the professional two movies which are full of some utterly sublime moments but ultimately didn t work well enough for me to become favorites to be honest i recall liking this very much while i watched it i certainly enjoyed the visuals there is a lot more gore religion and war in this one which is being called a re imagining than in the 1992 version which i keep wanting to compare this to even though that one was over 30 years ago but for the life of me i cannot remember any particular moments in this film which resonated with me which means that this movie was nothing more than an entertaining bit of fluff with a little bit of cheese i walked away from it with the theme of love being eternal and god cursing people and all that there were definitely some feels involved but the movie had no depth for me although i fully admit other people s mileage on that may vary what i found the most jarring was the dialogue which sometimes seemed a bit too modern and breezy don t get me wrong i don t wish i hadn t watched it i liked it at the time and its a very pretty film but i was expecting a bit more depth if you are here for the feels then go for it it s worth watching for that but if you re looking for thematic depth maybe try another version like nosferatu starfleet academy i have since heard that this series will not be coming back for a third season and i m okay with that it was not a series i was greatly invested in although i liked it okay ultimately it wasn t a show that was aimed at someone like me a middle aged trekkie although it wasn t actually bad it was aimed at young adults many of whom or so i heard greatly enjoyed it i did like maybe half the cast and there were about four good episodes in a ten episode series the primary character arc didn t work for me because i had nan care about those particular characters of the characters on the show i was especially liking the gay klingon named jayden c mon don t even look at me like that klingons have always ben gay as fuck and a holographic character named sam who was the highlight of the season for me since like spock odo and data before her she is one of the most uniquely different characters on the show but the show really got on my good side by featuring two of my favorite comedians gina yashere and tig notaro and three of my favorite actors robert picardo paul giamatti and holly hunter so except for most of the younger actors it has a great cast the standout episodes were ep 5 series acclimation mil ep 7 episode seven and ep 8 episode eight the problem though is the younger actors i am well beyond my teenage years so i was not at all invested in any of their love interests school shenanigans or character arcs i don t hate the show though i checked in to see what was going on from time to time and like a lot of episodic shows it was a mixed bag of good bad and boring episodes i preferred the side quests to the main story i wasn t interested in that at all i will treat the second season much the same way i did this one checking in from time to time reading a couple of trusted reviews and enjoying what i can while i can will smith pole to pole this turned out to be something of a joy to watch i wasn t expecting the levels of depth i got from this for those of you who are still clutching your pearls over the oscars incident between will smith and chris rock it might be time to get over that you watch acts of violence all the time and while i understand that might have colored your thinking about the type of man will is i am chastising you for having put him on that high of a pedestal in the first place he s just a man and there are men out there in the world who have committed far more monstrous things than what you saw on that stage anyway will does talk about the event not directly but it does have some bearing on the places he visits and the questions he asks as he travels the world from the south pole to the north pole one of the most touching episodes was him visiting the buddhist temples of the himalayas where he and his hosts discuss the secret of obtaining happiness you can tell the place and people had a deep effect on him but who knows after all he is a very good actor so take it as you will my favorite episode was watching will get out of his comfort zone while visiting the amazonian cave system i feel the same way about caves so i was feeling that episode a lot he also visits the kalahari desert where he realizes he is entirely unsuited for the life of a tribesman and then the amazon again where he hunts for the giant anaconda one of the most memorable scenes was watching will and one of his hosts skiing across the arctic i don t know why that stood out to me beyond me simply loving the arctic landscape what i liked most about the series though was will s lack of ego he is openly curious about the lives of the people he visits asks great questions and is willing to learn from them about what they think and feel their personal lives their languages and life customs with a complete lack of ego even being willing to admit to failure or admiration and that was very refreshing to watch will isn t a guide or a host he is just along for the ride while the people who live there do their thing and is there to learn as much as we are there for watching which made the episodes a lot more fun than listening to a narrator lecture us about their lifestyles fallout season 2 this season isnt quite as batshit as the first season but only because the audience is used to the amount of sheer craziness to expect it s still just as much fun as the first season along with some tragic notes thrown in especially if you are fond of the worldbuilding of the games the characters are more of who they are and some of their arcs go in some unexpected directions since this particular iteration of the game is called fallout new vegas i expected there to be more new vegas featured in the show actually i expected all of the show to be set there but a considerable portion of the show is about the various characters just trying to survive the trip to the place basically we encounter some more horrific and badass monsters which i m always here for ultimately though i m watching it for the adventures of lucy and the ghoul because their dynamic is just so much fun kyle maclachlan plays lucy s father and he is such a happy folksy villain that its really hard not to like him and he has a really good dynamic with lucy too you can see why she is the way she is i m a lot less interested in the intrigue that leads up to the end of the world but i sat through it and paid attention because sometimes those storylines become important later the ghoul is still looking for his wife and daughter lucy is still trying to bring her father to justice and maximus is just trying to survive without the coalition with which he is involved trying to kill him one of the standout moments for me was his reunion and big kiss with lucy it kinda makes sense that the two of them would bond the two characters whose stories are least predictable or entirely up in the air are thaddeus maximus old friend and norm lucy s brother there s also some very funny and interesting things happening back at lucy s old vault featuring leslie uggams can i just say what a surprise it is to see leslie uggams acting again and seeing her in some interesting and surprising roles i love blind al from the deadpool movies and i didn t expect to see her in this show she s in her 80s the very first time i saw her was in the 70s in roots she has been acting the whole time i just haven t seen her in any of her roles this series is nowhere near being finished there s a lot more story to tell and at least a couple more seasons to tell it frankly i wish most shows had a cutoff of five or six seasons of ten or less episodes then they wrapped it up i think we may be reaching that point thanks to streaming 10 dance i watched this because it was about ballroom dancing and because it starred a couple of handsome japanese fellows who might or might not fall in love its about two rival dancers at the top of their particular professions one of them is a classical ballroom dancer and the other is a latin ballroom dancer which also means that their approaches to life and their profession are wholly opposite one another one of them is reserved controlled and disciplined where the other one lives a passionate wilder more impulsive lifestyle the series isn t so much about their competition or their training for it as it is about the two of them learning to work together perhaps even learning to love each other naturally there are quite a number of rocky moments in the show and quite a lot of really good dancing and some backstory as well the guys do have female partners but the women are there mostly to comment on the developing relationship between the two men i enjoyed this primarily on the strength of the dancing and the acting was engaging i was heavily reminded of the original 1996 japanese film shall we dance which is one of my favorites there s an element of that in this series but not too much and i was gently surprised train dreams train dreams is an example of filmmaking i ve been trying to get into the last few years called slow cinema which is lowkey contemplative even dreamlike with long static shots minimal noise natural lighting and reserved acting i cannot say it was enjoyable but i did like it because it was very relaxing except for the amount of tragedy in it it reminded me of a terence malick film although i don t think the creators were trying to ape that style it took me a while to recognize the voice of will patton as the voiceover it s a historical film starring joel edgerton about the life of a man who works on trains and logging a lot of it takes place outdoors there is minimal dialogue and lots of atmosphere there is also a lot of tragedy involved the lead character mostly witnesses a lot of horrible accidents which has a great emotional effect on his approach to living but he seems unable 2026 by lkeke35 in tv shows movies lists leave a comment it s almost that time of year for me to start picking my summer movie watching list wooo that s right i m getting myself ready for superheroes action films and horror schlock and to eating waay too much popcorn while sitting under some grueling air conditioning the only problem i usually have is paying for the tickets fortunately we do have a couple of first run discount theaters that offer loyalty cards so i think i m gonna be okay maybe i am already talking things over with my niece and nephew to see what they re into this summer i will probably seeing at least a couple of movies alone but i think they ll be onboard for most of this summer s offerings here in no particular order are a few more interesting trailers some for tv some for the theater and a couple of them i m really really excited about year of the rabbit this is one for tv i think an historical comedy is kinda novel so i m interested in this one i also like the lead actor who played in the tv series what we do in the shadows all of hte hallmark tropes of victorian london are present except this seems a little less dirty forbidden city this is not a movie that s plying in a theater near me but i will catch this when it streams this looks pretty cool let s see martial arts revenge against traffickers and a little bit of romance i m in lanterns this is another tv series i m looking forward to i read the green lantern books when i was a teenager and off and on as an adult but while my first gl was hal jordan my fave gl was john i like the hal actor cuz i ve seen him in other stuff but i m not onboard with actor who plays joh cuz he s just not who i pictured but i hope it s a good show so far i m two for two on picking good shows to watch with wonder man and pluribus and i think this trend will continue man on fire i m kinda excited for this one it stars the same guy from wonder man yahya abdul mateeen and i m becoming a really big fan of this guy i m eager to see what he can do in one denzel washington s old roles only it s a tv series i guess the studios thought they were successful enough with a series version of denzel s the equalizer that a series based on another one of his movies would also be a hit i like it bushido im not sure if this is a new version of this movie or not i know there s an version of this on amazon is this new i don t care the trailer is still lovely let s watch it anyway bait riz ahmed turns in another interesting performance in this meta james bond esque film that s set in the real world and follows his acting career as he gets set to maybe play a secret agent i like riz i ll try anything he stars in and this actually looks like fun spiderman brand new day this is the movie my nephew and i are waiting for we are both huge spiderman fans and have watched all of the spiderman movies together so here we go get your popcorn ready the vampire lestat final trailer song this is the final
