comment two medals two medals etched into the silver hanging from the coloured ribbon a story of an ending there to remind a family whilst the picture on the wall recalled the happier times she had enlisted passing through the ranks with distinction then called upon by her country to serve and obey she was proud and fearless to join that front line a medic who knew the risks she was about to take helping the wounded from the bloody battlefields then she became the target of an enemy drone operated by a teen who was still in school her body was recovered when the battle moved on this was a perpetual war that would never end her parents just sat staring at the wall a small piece of metal all that was left of her service a husband looked on still with the tears in his eyes a lifetime of happiness destroyed in one blast from a teenager who had practised on computer games counting his points for each human that he destroyed children looked on unable to understand why had their mother so suddenly been taken away a grandfather sat with his head in his hands the freedoms he had fought for now seemed so short lived as if the same evil would never leave his country peace if it came would be at a price heavy to all meanwhile the teen was being hailed as a hero for all the death that he had caused paraded in the great square before his leader to have a bright shiny medal pinned to his chest his picture would be displayed on recruiting boards encouraging his peers to do just the same another generation was being birthed in hate common people were merely the pawns in a game deceived to believe there would be a victory to proclaim for this glorious country whose people should be ashamed for the pictures of empires and of lands overseas are but the coating of gloss that of the morning spreading quickly across a mown field of hay they were awakened by the bellow of cattle calling neighbours soon realised the blaze was heading their way all hands were needed the call spread faster than the fire tractors set off across fields to create a fire break brush by the river caught fire and flames grew higher the neighbours love for the farmer overshadowed his hate for three days they fought to extinguish the blaze until the tired sweating bodies had saved the farm then the task of rebuilding and each neighbour gave digging deep in their pockets to build a new barn months later the rains continued through the week threatening the acres that had been under the plough flood waters began flowing out from the creek homes were in danger and action was needed now they called upon the neighbour they had once aided a farmer who had risen to become mayor of the town who told them the problem was one they had created he didn t need their votes and would let them drown working together the neighbours were able to survive whilst he continued to rise until he reached the top in his small world of selfishness he would thrive openly laughing at the fools who drank of chair his sign stuck in the sand said immigrants go home when told of the rescue boats he cried out in despair he was determined to make britain a non immigrant zone that summer was dry and the rains never came the harvests were poor and the reservoirs ran dry his new sign water is for brits immigrants were to blame unless they were deported he claimed we d all die then the wild fires began raising alarm and fears they raged through the towns destroying homes the special relationship appeal fell on deaf ears bottled water was rationed in drought hit zones politicians concluded that the island could not be saved people would leave in boats to seek refuge elsewhere laws about refugees would just have to be waived he cast off from clacton pier as black smoke filled the air he stood in the bow of his inflatable boat ready with his followers to land on the shore barely able to keep his small craft afloat i am seeking asylum he began to roar but all he could see were rows of banners stilts look down on a grotesque figure who wears a crown ladies dressed as men and men as ladies animal figures hand out toys to babies just another parade in this country town a day to turn the world upside down nonsense making sense on this jolly day enough to drive the dark clouds away clowns behaving as if they are kings the mocking choir in attendance sings ladies dressed as beggars are demanding rent from landlords who say their money is all spent sheep are herding up the bystanders two ewes acting as their commanders geese scan crowds for the best for the pot the mayor runs away he s lost the plot satan is laughing loudly at the priest who has come dressed as the beauty for the beast there s a tractor driven by a carnival queen a pig sits on the throne delighting in being seen comment blind faith blind faith he read the words out loud at the break of day one chapter at a time to greet each dawn this was telling the tales in the olden way today the boat builder and an impending storm onlookers scoffed declaring he must be crazy young ladies ignored him on their way to the beach others drank their fill at bars until hazy an ancient chronicler pleaded to learn more the rains came to wash away the wickedness as the boatbuilder and his family sailed away the story retold to a congregation of carelessness they scoffed saying there was no relevance today outside the sun beat down upon the fields beneath the failing crops earth opened wide farmers despaired over ever decreasing yields on watered greens golfers scoffed and denied media carried warnings of the great danger how one mistake might set the world alight a spark from a barbecue lit by a stranger soon the forest burned fiercely through the night i wondered as i walked through the charred remains a brother support our cause every day a headline screams stop the boats the louder we shout the more we stack up votes don t question why they flee just spread the hate make sure that you are heard dictate the debate they re the cause of all our troubles the message declares our nation must be pure the torch is lit and flares when the surge from overseas became a trickle that left the haters in a little pickle their message was now falling on deaf ears they must change the message to raise the fears a dark undercurrent festered in the night then came the new message the nation must be white for whites were very clearly the superior race the haters had found a new cause to embrace when unity prevailed another cause arose to find a figure responsible for all their woes a virtual establishment was soon created their influence meant punishment must be debated few noticed the leaders pockets were being lined for the hatred and corruption they had entwined as they grew richer so lawn the lawn was speaking when newcomers arrived a flowering kaleidoscope of colour spread to boundaries bumble bees hovering above the dandelions hoverflies feasted upon hawkbits swaying head caterpillars busy demolishing a stand of nettles ivy had long since crept over fences and walls leaving an appearance of a hedge of shimmering green beneath the summer house there were nesting bees whilst wasps had formed a papery home under a conifer even in bright sun the bodies of fruit flies reflected after being trapped in the carefully spun net a blue dragonfly emerges from some reeds thriving in a damp corner of the lawn ryegrass coltsfoot and fescues wave in a breeze their fine pollen being carried by the wind botanists could revel as they spotted more large white and fritillary dance between thistle stems whose delicate parachutes slowly float away ants emerge from the warmth beneath a stone seeds being collected for a store life displayed from every nook and cranny flying over the multi coloured lawn the newcomers remove the sign that says sold survey the scene and agree upon a course of action excavators rip out and tear up the vegetation shrubs grasses and even small trees piled into a skip the concrete mixer churns away throughout the day matting laid to inhibit further growth of vegetation before the concrete is laid for a new path now concrete slabs make up a patio adorned by a multitude of grecian figures whilst artificial grass is laid by the drive the fence now covered with polypropylene trellis from which plastic fake wisteria trails a dandelion peeps from between the slabs to be flooded by a deluge of glyphosate an awning shades the patio and in their loungers the newcomers sit drinking their prosecco so proud of what they have achieved their made madness hiding from shame boasts as parched creatures lose hope gardeners look on and curse the hosepipe ban as water floods into data centres we are told will save bloody liars i say the lot of them as even a small ant struggles almost toasted under the midday sun earthworms burrow deep but there is no escape dried leaves float to the ground leaving bare branches like skeletons trying to pray to a sky for help where even humans turn in moments of despair seeking help that may not be there what damned creation was this god if such exists forbid that we endure this until the earth burns
