but i have a thought i need to write down was thinking abt how the general assumption re art and society is that our modern day society does not value art artists are paid less bc they make something not of concrete value but then i realized that s not entirely true there are forms of art that are highly valued and frequently discussed and are also billion dollar industries tv and movies and also video games so what is the difference between entertainment art and say fine art then i realized entertainment is art that can be consumed that can occupy your time i don t think there s an exact line between entertainment and fine art if i were to treat it like a spectrum which i m not saying it is books and music would be somewhere in the middle podcasts fall closer to entertainment i think all forms of art can be consumed and also interpreted i think most art is both even social media is a collection of written illustrated and video form art highly tailored for consumption regardless the level of observation interpretation analysis even the process of rich artists making high end dogshit art for other rich ppl transforms fine art into a primarily consumption based industry the consuming being in buying expensive dogshit art for social status so it s not that society devalues art but rather that society highly values consumption because consumption is the driving force of a capitalist economy this is prob rly obvious but it s been on my mind since i ve been watching free youtube movies lately anyway i am snooozing now edit i actually just watched devil wears prada for the first time today and it exactly encapsulates what i was trying to say here like there are moments when it s obvious she s devaluing fashion bc she doesn t respect it as a real form of art and this actually affects the ppl who care abt their jobs bc they care abt fashion as an art form as self expression but it s also a major industry that preys on women s insecurities like the constant need to be a lower dress size and it s extremely consumerist as pointed out by her friends and bf in the movie itself they are overpriced pieces of crap that no one rly needs but society tells women
