er got paid of course i was a bit younger and did not really know how to avoid the scammers on the site i went back the other day to give the content mills a second chance and to see if i could start generating some side income while i thought of a better way to make money initially i started searching for writing jobs again unfortunately most clients on the site expect people to write 500 word articles for 3 or less on top of that as a freelancer you get less than what you charge because the content mills take a cut as a freelancer these content mills seem appealing because they appear to be full of work opportunities in various types of fields however they are deceptive i believe it should be quality over quantity but it is the other way around everyone expects jobs to get done cheaply and many jobs are offered but they are not the types of wages a freelancer can sustain themselves on so i say nay no content mills for me for a while i have one pending job application from a company that needs a virtual assistant i will try to get that job but if it doesn t work out i will leave the sites and go about finding money another way the process of getting great pay online is biggest goals is to make 5000 before graduation so that i can celebrate by taking a trip i started looking for flexible jobs compatible with my skill set and i didn t find much when i say i didn t find much i mean that i found plenty of work but couldn t really find any work that i felt was worth my time my main skill is writing any college kid should be able to write a decent paper if they tried that s where i m at i m just a regular college kid and i like to write of the many jobs i found online many of them were on the content mill sites sites which i m familiar with and am not eager to return to those sites pay pennies for content that should be worth more the reason this situation is possible is because too many writers undervalue their content and buy into the idea that anybody can write so a well written piece does not have much value it is a sad situation but a true one now i do want to earn my 5000 before graduation but i am not desperate enough to join a content mill to reach that goal it wasn t easy to come to that decision because the sooner i start producing content for someone the closer i will be to fulfilling my goal i took the whole week to mull this decision over and decided that the short term benefits could wait and that i would rather have long term success the short term benefits would be getting paid for the content i write now long term success would consist of me getting paid for value i produce for another person i ve decided that instead of working for pennies i d work on my craft i am not the best writer as you can probably tell by reading this however i do write well and have potential for growth if i dedicate time to writing honing my skills creating my voice and packaging it nicely to create value for someone that needs it i may gain more in the long run than a few pennies for some articles i wrote back then the problem remains i still have to earn my 5000 i am willing to write articles and essays but it has to be for the right price spending an hour working on an article to only get 2 for it isn t the type of work i m looking for that being said i am at a loss for how to find decent paying writing jobs i also worry about wasting my time looking for jobs instead of actually working i want the short term benefits and the long term success but it feels like i cannot have both for this upcoming week i will continue to look for ways to use my writing i can also do basic data entry and telecommuting work but i am not sure where the legitimate companies that do this kind of work are hiding i will continue to look unfortunately the amount of profit i ve made this week amounts to a big fat zero i didn t do any side jobs but i m hoping that this week my search will be a little more fruitful my goal is a pretty big one but it is also doable in the meantime i will work on my writing and on making art what i don t want to do is leave everything to chance and hope that something comes up i will lose a lot of time doing that and it may not result in anything anyway i m going to wrap this up by saying that even if i don t make 5000 this year i will make something that will open the window for more work and papers cramming during all nighters stuffing my face with less than healthy food and hanging out with my friends while we pretend to do homework i have one year of college left and i have no idea what i am going to do with my life so i failed to figure out how i was going to financially sustain myself so that i wouldn t have to immediately go into the work force in all honesty i could probably carry out a makeshift plan and hope for the best being as i m young and all my biggest problem with that idea is that i have loans to pay they are small loans nothing compared to what others coming from my same school 0we but it is still more money than i ve ever had it wouldn t be the best idea to jump into something risky without paying them off i m hoping that i will be able to get a job i m even unsure about that now i m still trying to figure out what kind of business i want to start the writing articles for money would be more of a long term goal so would the design i need some flexible job that i can do part time from the comfort of my home so that i can generate some extra income and not be stuck on a 30 000 salary i ve even considered getting two full time jobs if possible this is my train of thought i want to get rid of my loans as fast as possible and save up to buy a house with a single stream of income being one full time job i will be able to cover my expenses with the second full time job i will be able to save up and buy a house i just turned 21 about a month ago so i know i have time but i would rather focus my efforts while i m full of energy and try to buy a house for myself before i m 25 if that first part goes according to plan i will add an even bigger goal my second goal is that i want to be financially independent by the time i m 30 on top of the second full time job i will probably be looking to make some extra money on the side with any free time i have this is where graphic design or writing articles would fit in by this point i should be somewhat established at both because i would have been doing both for almost a decade my hope is that i will not have to waste too much time searching for clients and that i will be able to maximize my time by finding a way to make them come to me if all goes as planned i will find a way to generate enough income for myself by age 30 to not have to depend on a job as of right now the number i m shooting for is 3000 a month i m a very frugal person so my biggest expenses would be rent food and utilities with my house already bought and paid off by age 25 rent would probably not be a big cost which means i could probably bring that number down to 2000 am i looking for a get rich quick scheme no i am looking for something sustainable that will allow me to maximize my time so that i can do more of what i enjoy if i m lucky the jobs i do will be enjoyable and i ll have some good experiences along the way part of me feels like these hopes are unrealistic and un achievable while i m still at my last year in school i m looking to make 5000 for a trip i want to take at the end of the year i have no idea about how i m going to make this much money but as i have stated i have about a year s worth of time to come up with this sum of course this is not do or die the worst that will happen if i don t make that 5000 is that i will not be able to go on the trip and i ll spend time looking for a job instead of celebrating graduation i am aiming pretty high because i know that if i aim low i might not try as hard i do have two campus jobs already but i am using those jobs to pay off my loans this extra job whatever it may be will be extra money in my pocket money that will be well spent on travel if i had to choose a minimum amount that would allow me to go on this trip i would say 2500 still i want to aim for 5000 because if i can make that much i may be able to create a lucrative side job with whatever i m doing and turn it into one of my full time streams of income so there that is my plan for this year i graduate in june hopefully by then i will have achieve these goals i have set up for myself i will be posting every week along the way just to document my junior in college and i m trying to figure out some job possibilities i m not exactly sure about what s to come but since i m a sociology major with little practical knowledge in anything i don t think there s much i do appreciate the critical thinking and essay writing skills i have acquired through my sociology classes but i m not sure those skills will help me get a job in the real world first i still want to start my own business i want to be a freelance writer and then maybe in the future when i m comfortable with that go into graphic design or maybe i could just be a poker player however the more i look into it the less practical it seems in terms of my circumstances i won t say that being a freelance writer seems un achievable but it seems like i have a long road ahead and i need to find a way to sustain myself in the mean time i don t particularly want to jump right into the work world i have about a year and a half to figure out how to sustain myself by being a freelance writer to avoid jumping right into the work world but i do not have a plan even if i did have a plan i m not the best at following them improvisation is more of my thing still i don t think improvisation will be my friend in the long run especially if i m trying to establish something that i will depend on financially i don t want to bounce around from job to job just to realize that nothing is really fulfilling i want to create something for myself it seems silly but somehow knowing what i want for myself doesn t teach me about how to get it i wish i had a road map but i don t therefore working in the real world looks like a real possibility since i will have to get a real job when i graduate i ve figured its probably not the worst thing for my freelancing for starters i ll have constant motivation to write chase business seek new clients and put myself out there the mere fact that i am working for someone else with probably no decision making power of my own will make me cringe thus i will work really hard to get out of that situation i figure the experience of sitting at a desk answering calls and writing emails will seem valuable to some of my first clients they will have proof that i was once a real person before i decided to become a freelancer on the other hand not getting a real world job immediately may be a good thing too of course i ll be starving and struggling financially but i will have something that can t amount to the money that i may get paid if i had a job time i will have time to continue to build the business i want i will have time to make the early business mistakes that won t kill me because i m young in other words if i don t get a job right away it would be the perfect time to create the business and let it fly it might crash and burn or it might sprout wings either way i ll be learning a little bit about how everything works i m actually looking forward this i don t have a game plan and that sucks but i don t think i need to make one because i just won t follow it right now i m on the lookout for clients i am going to start writing articles and try to sell them i m not exactly sure about the steps for getting my work
