marry them wed on t want that premier but we do want another kind of legally binding contract it s been 111 days since anf first applied to fwa it s 1 004 days until the next state election that s 2 years and 9 months from today we have 13 188 wonderful people liking us and 22 412 people have sorry 22 417 people have signed our online petition unless i click refresh then it s 22 422 people the sky is clear the sun is risen and i m leaving soon to join the walkouts i look forward to seeing my colleagues in the flesh and nurses from 14 other hospitals through the miracle of communications technology we are united in spirit we are in it for the long haul however much we may ask if we re there yet we re walking out today and twice a day every day until this government sits at the of industrial action because nurses don t want to walkout we want to care for patients and no mr davis that doesn t mean anyone except you has in any way influenced our decision because we ll do whatever it takes short of criminal or immoral action to defend safe patient care just that we d rather be at the bedside day 1 for austin nurses who walked out this morning and will keep going out twice a day every day until we meet with fwa austin members gathered to hear first anf vic branch assistant secretary pip carew then actu president and former austin health nurse ged kearney wet weather did not dampen the spirits of austin nurses nor royal melbourne nurses who i joined for their second day of walk offs that afternoon it s 1 006 days until we go to the polls it s day 110 since doesn t matter none of us has any guarantee of health beyond this minute i m a nurse and if or when i end up on the other side of the bed rail i know my odds of surviving and returning to my life are significantly higher if my care is provided by skilled qualified experienced nursing staff i have less likelihood of developing pneumonia contracting an infection being given the wrong medication falling contracting a pressure injury getting critically ill without anyone noticing needing transfer to a bigger hospital and or icu being readmitted and of dying i want the best odds for myself i want the best odds for the people i care about and i want no less for the victorian public my patients and potential patients keep the ratios keep nurses at the bedside and help us continue to save into the government s hands that i wanted to remind you all that until we sign a new eba it is illegal to work beyond the ratios use pcas to deliver nursing care in acute hospitals roster more than one short shift per ward unit or department per am and pm to pay below eba rates or to alter the current rn grad en skill mix there is no pool of trained up pcas ready to step in though see above they couldn t anyway nor overseas educated nurses waiting in the wings to work for less money under any conditions and ahpra registration not only takes forever but they will not be loosening their registration requirements i know it feels as though you re just one person with no power to effect change but collectively we can bring this government to its knees the only power they have is the power we give them by being afraid by failing to unite by thinking about our own short term interests instead of the long term interests of us all we have the power we must act with unity and purpose
