common tropes updating the material to reflect modern social issues or simple role swapping and i blame jennifer s body jennifer s body was released in 2009 written by diablo cody directed by karyn kusama and starring megan fox and set the stage for future feminist themed films by turning conventions on its head instead of making jennifer a final girl or simply recreating the revenge narrative the movie focused on female revenge as monstrous date rape and close friend relationships amanda seyfriend plays needy jennifer s childhood friend who feels she needs to save her friend after jennifer is resurrected as a demon who eats the men who sexually covet her and asks the question of how to deal with a girlfriend whose personality has changed as a result of experiencing sexual trauma most but not all of these films are directed and written by women and through them we can glean some idea of what is it that makes women anxious rather than what only men think is scary and some prominent nicholas cage yes i watched it some of these mascot films and just about any childhood character toy or animated series qualifies have only become popular in the last five to ten years as the copyright for several trademarked characters expired like winnie the pooh popeye the sailor man sailor mickey and bambi the internet and hollywood were quick to exploit these characters for horror movies there are also movies and creepypastas that were directly inspired by five nights at freddy s like poppy s playtime while some of it is specifically aimed at children since it features monsters preying on children s souls children overcoming danger and a lack of gore there is still a contingent of the subgenre that is squarely adult oriented with a lot of gore and violence like benny loves you and the banana splits movie which is one i recognize from my childhood there is also a contingent that involves speculation on the lore behind certain childhood tv shows like the mashup of the teletubbies with the cosmic horror of lovecraft watch list five nights at freddy s willy s wonderland winnie the pooh blood honey bambi the reckoning the man in the godzilla suit when it comes to horror there is a wealth of types to choose from you don t have to stick with the same old 80s style slasher movies although the entertainment industry has never stopped making those and you can surely find some new and interesting things with which to frighten yourself this is by no means a comprehensive list of new horror but other subgenres include true crime and mysterious disappearances have put them here to add more content but you know what i don t care i have zero intention of ever watching any of them if i get bored just watching the trialer i m probably not going to see the film or series and sometimes some trailers are just insulting like the new one for the cape fear series why whose idea was this the two original films were made as perfectly as they could be made and while i love javier bardem absolutely no one was asking for a remake just for the record i prefer the 1962 version because who could possibly resist the acting mashup of gregory peck and robert mitchum just as absolutely no one was asking for a remake of the harry potter series which only ended a few years ago in 2011 now the trailers listed here will definitely get a viewing if i can find them on a streaming site or get to the theater supergirl extended trailer i m very much looking forward to his movie even though i ve never been a supergirl fan i haven t read any of her books didn t watch the original film or the series and just generally didn t care about her i still don t care that much about supergirl but i really like milly alcock i think she s an incredible actress and i loved her little cameo in superman supergirl has never been a favorite of mine or even of interest to me as a character but i gotta admit this trailer got me in my feels looks like it might be fun and has jason momoa featured as the one character in comic book history he was born to portray lobo i have watched things i wouldn t normally watch like that minecraft movie just because momoa was present and the song choice for this trailer absolutely perfect i m always a sucker for old school r b the end of oak street ever since i saw ray harryhausen s beast from 20 thousand fathoms as a kid i ve been absolutely fascinated by dinosaurs not kaiju although they ll do in a pinch stomping through the modern world that is why the lost world is my favorite jurassic park movie so yeah this trailer had me the moment the dinosaur showed up the premise of this trailer reminds me of the scifi book series called footprints of thunder by james f david about some kind of mixed up time quilt effect that transplanted modern people to the past and dinosaurs to the present so some humans end up living amongst dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures the book was serious but also a lot of fun hopefully this will be as much fun minore i got nothing besides dancing drinking cosmic entities and tentacles apparently the greek film industry is alive and well i d never heard of this movie until a few days ago it looks decidedly lovecraftian and i m all here for it where s this streaming backrooms a lot of people are very very excited for this movie i am cautiously excited but the trailer looks alright and appears to be very faithful to the creepypasta videos on which it is based the backrooms is the liminal space creepy pasta phenomenon created by youtuber kane pixels who also worked on this film and it s finally getting the a24 treatment i like chewitel ejiofor but i don t know the two actresses i m not going to go into the lore here because it s been a few years and it s gotten pretty deep that outsiders can contribute to and it s almost as fun and interesting as the original almost at the place of ghosts i love ghost stories from non european cultures i almost never watch the ones set in the us and europe because i don t find them particularly scary i like not knowing what the rules are for dealing with asian or mexican ghosts and that s what makes it frightening i m intrigued by this but once again i never heard of it until about a week ago trial of hein on the other hand i love these wicker man adjacent folktale like stories from europe the rules are always changing and different for each culture which is what actually makes it scary there might actually be a monster or the people in these remote places are simply insane it s fun to find out what we re dealing with here is someone claiming to be someone they may or may not be which is always something i ve found kinda scary i like that idea and i want to see this for some reason watching white people be in by lkeke35 in interludes lists movies reviews tv shows 1 comment dracula 2025 i went into this movie expecting it to be a lot more like the 1992 dracula by francis ford coppola based on the trailer and i should have known better because what i forgot to do was take into account that this film was directed by luc besson luc besson is a french director who is a bit more avant garde when it comes to filmmaking he s the guy who is responsible for the fifth element and the professional two movies which are full of some utterly sublime moments but ultimately didn t work well enough for me to become favorites to be honest i recall liking this very much while i watched it i certainly enjoyed the visuals there is a lot more gore religion and war in this one which is being called a re imagining than in the 1992 version which i keep wanting to compare this to even though that one was over 30 years ago but for the life of me i cannot remember any particular moments in this film which resonated with me which means that this movie was nothing more than an entertaining bit of fluff with a little bit of cheese i walked away from it with the theme of love being eternal and god cursing people and all that there were definitely some feels involved but the movie had no depth for me although i fully admit other people s mileage on that may vary what i found the most jarring was the dialogue which sometimes seemed a bit too modern and breezy don t get me wrong i don t wish i hadn t watched it i liked it at the time and its a very pretty film but i was expecting a bit more depth if you are here for the feels then go for it it s worth watching for that but if you re looking for thematic depth maybe try another version like nosferatu starfleet academy i have since heard that this series will not be coming back for a third season and i m okay with that it was not a series i was greatly invested in although i liked it okay ultimately it wasn t a show that was aimed at someone like me a middle aged trekkie although it wasn t actually bad it was aimed at young adults many of whom or so i heard greatly enjoyed it i did like maybe half the cast and there were about four good episodes in a ten episode series the primary character arc didn t work for me because i had nan care about those particular characters of the characters on the show i was especially liking the gay klingon named jayden c mon don t even look at me like that klingons have always ben gay as fuck and a holographic character named sam who was the highlight of the season for me since like spock odo and data before her she is one of the most uniquely different characters on the show but the show really got on my good side by featuring two of my favorite comedians gina yashere and tig notaro and three of my favorite actors robert picardo paul giamatti and holly hunter so except for most of the younger actors it has a great cast the standout episodes were ep 5 series acclimation mil ep 7 episode seven and ep 8 episode eight the problem though is the younger actors i am well beyond my teenage years so i was not at all invested in any of their love interests school shenanigans or character arcs i don t hate the show though i checked in to see what was going on from time to time and like a lot of episodic shows it was a mixed bag of good bad and boring episodes i preferred the side quests to the main story i wasn t interested in that at all i will treat the second season much the same way i did this one checking in from time to time reading a couple of trusted reviews and enjoying what i can while i can will smith pole to pole this turned out to be something of a joy to watch i wasn t expecting the levels of depth i got from this for those of you who are still clutching your pearls over the oscars incident between will smith and chris rock it might be time to get over that you watch acts of violence all the time and while i understand that might have colored your thinking about the type of man will is i am chastising you for having put him on that high of a pedestal in the first place he s just a man and there are men out there in the world who have committed far more monstrous things than what you saw on that stage anyway will does talk about the event not directly but it does have some bearing on the places he visits and the questions he asks as he travels the world from the south pole to the north pole one of the most touching episodes was him visiting the buddhist temples of the himalayas where he and his hosts discuss the secret of obtaining happiness you can tell the place and people had a deep effect on him but who knows after all he is a very good actor so take it as you will my favorite episode was watching will get out of
