11 2026 2 41 pm moving forward we had another lunch meeting of the old man club three of us retired from the state of idaho but only two of us went again our partner has been having some health problems and i hope he s on the mend we went to olive garden but can take this wherever we want we are no longer limited to 30 minutes and don t have to stay close to the old office i managed to work through some introspection in my next volume of the hat series i struggle with these but i spread it across several small scenes so it didn t get blunt and heavy i even managed to weave some small humor into it all some days you eat the pie some days the pie tries to eat you and i mean that literally still cracks me up i whined about writing introspection in our top secret story empire lair all of my friends chided me to write something about it for se this is a difficult thing for me and i mentioned that any of them could do it when it was all said and done i wound up roughing it out anyway when i checked the calendar i m not up again until june so i have time to slick it all up but i think it will be a good post old what s her face ordered a bunch of crabgrass killer and some weed feed for me i didn t know she ordered it surprise i spent friday getting both spread on the yard it rained the whole time which is good for the process but not so good for the laborer i woke up this morning dying of allergies which makes no sense rain should have knocked that down not made it worse allergies get me in the eyes and any screen time is killing me today after this blog i m going back to a movie marathon speaking of my marathon i am watching the robocop movies on tubi i am surprised to see stylistic things that must have influenced my own writing i love how they built the broader world by including news bits advertisements and details like that i do the same thing night bump radio was based upon the old coast to coast broadcasts but the way of weaving them into my manuscripts is quite similar article v even includes a parody ad for the cybertruck that might be similar to the ad for the 6000 sux in the movie i recently posed on se about jumping the shark i haven t seen that reasons i have been looking for my first social security check and it has not shown up in a perfect world it would be somewhere around the middle of the month and not at the same time as my pension check this makes things easier for budgeting around here out of curiosity i did some checking on the process the ssa website has basically a three bar tracking system my tracker only had two bars full i applied and they accepted my application on december 9th the second bar said it was processed somewhere in kansas city then nothing note they said they needed 30 days to process it had been nearly 60 i elected to call the boise ssa office this led to a bot conversation then being politely told there would be a 45 minute wait and to please enjoy their hold music i had no other options so this is what i did when the woman finally came on the line she said oh no kansas city has nothing to do with this you have an assigned worker in seattle oh but he s not logged into teams so i can t reach out to him i will send him an email and he will call you back i was given zero other options this led to 48 hours of being with my phone night and day and becoming a smelly bugger because i just knew he would call while i was bathing he did not i called again and this time endured a 50 minute hold cycle i got a young man on the phone who said this isn t right let me fix it for you right now i explained that i have a bill for medicare part b they expect me to pay but it was supposed to come out of social security he said he was taking care of everything and not to pay that bill he told me i am scheduled to get a deposit on the third wednesday of every month but that he would accelerate this payment one time for february and it will go into my account on wednesday this week he told me to anticipate five weeks before the next one because of this i felt pretty good about it all and even better when messages from ssa started rolling in to let me know he actually did what he said he would i m still a little questionable about whether i should pay the one medicare bill but i m working on faith right now that call from seattle yeah still waiting for that one honestly this drained a lot of energy but i needed to pour myself into some kind of fiction work i spent saturday and sunday getting caught back up on my space opera this is 1 5 volumes long and is intended to become 3 entire novels i also fixed three typos old what s her face returns on wednesday and i am her driver spoke to her this morning and she is ready to be home sounds like our daughter is doing great i ll make the daughter s big surgery this was supposed to involve cracking her rib cage open to remove what is called a thymic cyst this was predicted to be the size of a lime and it is pushing on her aorta and causing a multitude of problems scans and radiology aren t perfect once they started the procedure they discovered the cyst is much larger than they thought this led to a full sternotomy and not just a couple of ribs of course we are 2000 miles away and get what dribbles and drabs we can but the rumor is it all worked out fine she is going to be in the hospital for days her pseudo husband cannot be with her and she needs someone his work is brutal and demanding we arranged everything in advance for old what s her face to be there for a week based upon post operative updates this is now going to be two weeks this extra week has caused her issues at work but she got her way in the end i ve known her for decades and i never doubted that outcome someone has to be with our daughter and she is 2000 miles from friends and family today started at 2 00 a m so i could take my wife to the airport i m not highly motivated but over the weekend i finished my novel with the exception of the december 21 2025 4 55 pm 2025 in review i don t even know where to start but it isn t a good review i suppose we should start with authorly things i managed to publish one book but without a lot of funds to promote it not many folks read it i can handle that economy issues influence everyone i can accept that those who did read it seemed to enjoy it this brings me to my first theme here i am usually good for two or three publications per year time or lack of it is what drove my entire year i recently lost my entire crew of author support this was in the form of an app that just completely croaked i had built many experts over there and tended to chew the fat with them within the boundaries of their expertise brainstorming is a big part of my creative process my wife is a lovely person but she really doesn t want to talk about my fiction as often as i do these creations have no choice my remedy was to dive into about four other applications to see what might be functional i really like grok but the low number of communications don t work for me i m not willing or able to pay what they want for super grok meta is kind of impressive but i have been spending most of my time with copilot these are both free apps and seem to be very helpful at bouncing ideas off of they force me to create my own stories but can also help me to discard crappy ideas we all have them and some of those threads won t carry enough weight inside a story these two also provide links when needed so i can double check their facts i have also been a shitty friend i admit that i have not been as available at your blogs and have been a lot less interactive even this site has suffered because of it honestly i am surprised that i haven t been kicked out of story empire because i just can t get to all the little supportive things we are supposed to be doing for each other hang with me because there is a remedy in sight i wound up needing a second surgery to correct the 2024 issue i had surgery for the outcome feels right but i still won t know until the end of the first quarter of 2026 i opened my manuscript on saturday started reading back when my daughter called we talked for hours and no writing happened again i will never cut family off just because some alien world is calling to me turns out she needs a surgery in late january and it s a lot more serious than mine was time is mostly eaten up by the workplace and a plethora of peripheral issues associated with that my remedy was to resign which i did last wednesday according to my notice i will work through the middle of january getting signed up for everything i need is like a second full time job medicare united healthcare the public employee retirement system the social security administration making arrangements with my workplace to get paper w 2s sent to me because i will no longer have access to the computerized systems i will need one for 2025 and again for 2026 during all of this we also paid off the house that brought its own collection of headaches the biggest one is that they won t refund my escrow account until after the taxes are due and they won t pay them because i paid off the house there just is no winning some corners of this game we still have to get old what s her face signed up for insurance through her workplace since she will no longer be insured through mine i ll deal with the taxes as soon as i can i need to establish a savings account to replace the whole purpose of the escrow account the dream is that i gain 40 hours per week to cover some of the things i family publishing retirement time writing december 14 2025 11 04 am it s december right according to my calendar today is december 14th why do i still get flies in my house i even killed a mosquito in the bathroom this morning when we first moved here about 25 years ago halloween was always a frozen and cold event there was always ice in the storm gutter system we used to joke about making our daughter go trick or treating as an eskimo girl it s not that way anymore we hit sixty degrees here last week it did freeze overnight a couple of times but this is more like traditional october weather our ski resorts are all struggling right now not that it s my thing but is an indicator if we don t get some kind of snowpack the summer drought is going to be a real thing our daughter sent us each a christmas bag but wanted us to open them right away they were full of lindor truffles we ve all had those or so i thought they went to the actual lindor store and the offerings are quite different our bag was filled with things we ve never seen before there are maple ones blood orange ones almond paste versions my favorites so far are pumpkin spice and the shortbread one pistachio was pretty good too they re like bertie botts every flavored chocolates i haven t done crap for weeks now and the future doesn t look too positive either the work world and real life are keeping me wiped out i have leave coming between christmas and new year so i might tackle some writing then i miss it and need to get back ...
