re like now in the current present anyway i m sorry about your writers block and i hope this helps somehow groovinrightalong answered hiiii sorry i wanted to really think about this for a few days the first thing that popped into my head is that mike became a stay at home dad when ceci was born it s actually a really important part of the story to me and it s only really existed in my head and in the subtext so far will had to give up a lot when he had jackson hopes to maybe travel after graduating following his passion for art and he worked a lot of jobs that he hated to make ends meet he was able to cut back to just one job when mike and holly first moved in and then he took off work around when ceci was born with full intentions of going back but when she was about six months old he got a job offer to do illustrations for a publishing company and mike all but begged him to take it and let him be the one to stop working and stay home with the kids mike s a middle school teacher and he actually only goes back to work again about a year or so before the sequel takes place right when ceci starts school it s a hard adjustment for both of them when they go back will because he s still not quite used to putting his full trust in somebody else to handle things and look after his kids and then mike because he s got this sort of nervous attachment to all of them there s a lot of residual trauma from the time they spent apart that they really never manage to properly shake off no matter how much they ve forgiven and lover each other oh oh also there was a biiig problem when ceci was still a little baby where mike and will would wake up and look over at her bassinet and she would just be gone and will would groan and lie back down and mike would grumble under his breath and then they d both have to roll out of bed and shuffle down the hallway to jackon s room because he d just stroll in at ungodly hours of the morning and kidnap her when he thought she was bored or lonely will made a huge point of not making jackson act as an extra parent because of the way things were with him and jonathan but the kid made it super difficult because he would just do these things unprompted he liked helping and he liked his sister he was incredible with her from the beginning always gentle and careful and considerate and it is so hard to be mad at a kid for being a good big brother it drove them insane but he really didn t quit until she was big enough to have her own room and he could just go in and sit with her without bothering their parents then they d go in and find him curled up on the rug or in the rocking chair or the one time they found him in the crib he was scolded for that one because you re big enough to squish her you know they are quite close despite the age gap and i d say that continues on into adulthood ceci is probably the only person that doesn t end up on the receiving end of jackson s inevitable teen angst mike wheeler s son the poor kid was doomed from the start he mellows out by the time he moves out and then he s the cool older brother who s away at college and comes back to drive ceci around with her friends she s a little more social than jackson she s best friends with rosie henderson from pretty much the moment she can walk and talk but he s her first and best best friend and he s the one she goes to when things get weird with rosie in their teens hello byler best friends to messy gay crushes family curse in 2026 they d be 32 and 26 ceci definitely shares an apartment with rosie where they have tons of potted plants and maybe a cat or two but i m actually sort of unsure about jackson he s bi but i m not sure who i want him to end up with i do think he s a dad though grandpa byler i d say he s a new dad has a little baby at home with his partner and he s just as sweet and soft with her as he was with his sister when she was that age i also kind of like the idea that mike and will fostered a few kids after theirs got older they were only just turning 40 by the time jackson was graduating high school and were empty nesters before 50 i love the headcanon that canon mike and will foster when they get older since they can t have any kids of their own and i could absolutely see this version of them doing that as well maybe they wound up with a third kid as a result who knows and one other part of the story that s important to me but will never actually come up is that mike and will do travel and see the world together once they re older and their kids have moved out just like will thought about doing when they were younger it s sort of their opportunity to make up for lost time getting to be young together again alright that s probably more than enough lol thank you for the ask
