the mainstream in all my years of reading books i can t recall there ever being a time where people would sit around talking about d s relationship my own husband bought me the fifty shades trilogy and after i read them a time or two i loaned them out to my bestie with the words you have to read these omg i was enthralled with the d s lifestyle but more so the love story that was etched into the story while i was equally captured in diary of a submissive it was more in a train wreck reaction i couldn t help but keep reading even as i sometimes cringed sophie is quite explicit in her details and the way she allows her boundaries to be pushed i found myself shrinking back in my chair and wishing she would safe word at times ironically it wasn t the physically bruising things that made me wish she would stop it all it was the demeaning and humiliating times that i couldn t believe she would go thru with my stomach would turn and i wanted to reach thru the pages and tell her don t go thru with it perhaps it was the fact that there was no love story in the beginning relationship a friends w benefits situation turned into a threesome made me unable to imagine allowing such things with someone that i did not completely love and trust beyond all what amazed me the most was that while many of the same things happened in both books 50 shades diary of a submissive the way i felt about them was completely different in each i am looking forward to reading what others thought after reading this for the blogher book club and i hope you ll join in on the discussions as well happy ally condie it is the first in an epic ya trilogy that will suck in fans of hunger games and twilight it is a quick read that sucks you in the moment you begin and doesn t let you set it down until it s completely finished then you are left hungering for more more matched is set in the not so distant future where society has eradicated all choice everything is planned for you your job your free time even your spouse in this new society meals are bland and made specifically for each person s nutritional needs while taste is no longer important you are sorted into the job that you will do for the rest of your life no more trying to decide what you want to be when you grow up it s all done for you even your death is planned for you no more wondering when you ll die society has done away with all diseases and crime you know have your final death ceremony when you turn 80 the optimum time to die cassia lives in this new world and lives by the rules she accepts society and how things are although she is sad that her grandfather is reaching his 80th birthday and his death ceremony she accepts it as what happens in her world until everything changes and she begins to question society and its perfection in the year of your 17th birthday you have your matching ceremony it s a time of great excitement real food a colored dress that you will get a square back to keep because you aren t allowed to actually keep the dress itself instead of your normal uniform that you wear and meeting the match you will spend the rest of your life with as cassia s name is called she stands and waits for the boy from another province to show up on the screen instead something unusual happens she is matched with a boy from her own province xander her best friend what could be better although she has one of the few surprises society allows her the mystery of a new person she is happy that she can be with someone that she share so much with when cassia finally views the disc containing xander s background information she is shocked to discover that another face appears briefly another face that she recognizes ky has society made a mistake which one is her true match can she make the choice to rebel against society to be with ky when they have determined that xander should now be her match check in at the blogher book club for some great discussions on this awesome author to add to my quickly growing list of must read everything they write which i actually do keep on my computer yes i m a book geek the great thing about today s author is that this is her first book so i don t have to go stalk the library and amazon to find the rest even better is how great this book is i mean it is her first and some of my absolute favorite oldies nora roberts don t have the most wonderful beginner books i mean they are good but they didn t grab me by the throat ok let s get on with it i know when i m babbling witch way bends book 1 of the bend bite shift trilogy by olivia hardin is today s book of the day blurb devan stowe is a woman on a quest she has only one thing on her mind when she teams up with kent crosby and his associates putting an end to her father s child trafficking business her determination takes her on a journey to discover her true strength and the one man she was destined to love in his arms she ll learn the meaning of trust honor and courage old friends and new will come together to help devan unlock an amazing gift that will free her from her past and open up a future full of magic faeries and more things than she ever imagined possible my take witch way bends is a wonderfully written book while it seems to be a paranormal thriller mystery there is enjoy romance thrown in throughout the book that i d definitely recommend it to my fellow romance readers i actually read the book 3 times before sitting down to write this review because i loved it so much and that my friends is pure love the book has wonderful flow no stagnant parts that you want to skip thru some of my favorite authors can go for 2 pages on the type of cushion on a chair argh and not moving so quickly that you get lost the highs and lows are perfectly situated i laughed cried and even maybe awww d aloud a time or two it s hard to pick a favorite character because they were all so great i do feel pulled to langston and roon though perhaps it s a bit of the mystery they both represent that i want to know more plus i know this is the first of 3 and am hoping that we ll learn more on all the supporting characters soon what sealed it in my head as best book ever was my favorite quote from devan s imaginary friend roon everything has a purpose pain joy hurt death life magic all of it fits you are in this moment because you were meant to old house someone or something was watching her waiting her husband s violent murder sent her spiraling into a world of grief and isolation but ella isn t alone who or what is responsible for her husband s death is still with her darkness has engulfed the past year of ella s life everyday reality slips a little more between her fingers as she struggles to break free from her memories she must look deeper into her past as well as the present to discover truth of her husband s homicide a string of uncanny events takes place and practical explanations run thin as ella follows the terrifying is brutally murdered she writes horror books for a living and is naturally the prime suspect in the small town s eyes ella on the other hand thinks the ghosts the house has killed her husband this is one of those books that you won t be able to put down because you just need to know who did it was it truly the house is there a murderer on the loose is ella just crazy and did she really do it i now oh wait nevermind slow love how i lost my job put on my pajamas and found happiness is a memoir written by dominique browning i almost instantly felt a connection to dominique from the very beginning although our lives are worlds apart i can understand and empathize with her panic and despair at loosing her job her identity as a parent of special needs children you have to relearn your life you go thru the depression stage days of a daze just eating and sleeping stumbling thru to get up and do it all over again until you finally wake up one day pull yourself up and move on there s an initial panic despair over loosing what you thought was your path slow love is about learning to experience life more slowly and really appreciating the little things in life that you might not have noticed before there s so much to enjoy in this book whether you sympathize with her loss or you get mad at stroller a man who named himself after rejecting dominique s initial walker name tag because he s so good at walking away you ll find something you can connect to i nodded my head at some parts and wanted to jump in and give advice on stroller he s not going to change get away from him alas it s real life and there will always be bumps in the road sometimes we have to go over the same ones a few times by all means don t just trust my opinion check out what others are saying
