Text of the page (random words):
the same tally also counts the times atelier breaks when a fault interrupts the app we add one to a running count filed under a short description of that fault that description is the technical message the browser itself produced cut back before we keep any of it numbers are replaced so the same fault always files under the same description and anything the message had in quotes along with any web address or file path in it is thrown away rather than kept it is a count of faults not a report about you it carries nothing you wrote no titles no file names and no web addresses we added it so we can find out something is broken without waiting for somebody to tell us it records counts only never what you wrote never what you named anything never what you bought we use it to see which parts of atelier people actually use so we know what to improve and what to remove it is visible to us on a private internal dashboard and to nobody else two things we want to be straight about because they are true today and we would rather say so than have you find out there is currently no switch to turn this off and this tally is not yet included in the automatic export deleting your account does remove it if you want yours removed without closing your account email support atelierjournal com and we will delete it we intend to fold it into the export too housekeeping a running total of how much storage your uploads occupy so we can apply the storage limits described in our terms if you buy a membership a record of that subscription s status sharing history when you give another person access to something of yours or take that access away we write down that it happened which item who whether they can read it or also edit it and when it records the fact of the share and never the contents of what was shared and it is kept on our servers rather than in your account so it cannot be edited after the fact we keep it for one reason if anything ever goes wrong with your information the law gives us a short window to tell you exactly what was exposed and the list of who can currently see something cannot answer that because it has no memory of access that was granted and later withdrawn this does the records of what you shared are erased when you delete your account what we do not do no advertising there are no ad networks in atelier and there never will be no third party analytics and no behavioral profiling we have not installed google analytics meta pixel or any comparable product and nothing about you is shared with an advertising network we do run one private internal dashboard visible only to us which shows the daily usage counts described under usage counts above it shows how often parts of the app were opened it never shows what you wrote what you named anything or what any entry contains no selling or renting your information not to anyone for any price no training ai on your work your entries are not used to train machine learning models ours or anybody else s no reading your entries we do not read your content we can technically reach it because it is stored on servers we administer but we access it only if you explicitly ask us to for support or if we are legally compelled to where your data lives atelier runs on google s firebase platform your account your content and your uploads are held in google data centers in the united states if you use atelier from outside the united states your information is transferred there and stored there google is contractually bound to protect that data on our behalf and transfers out of the uk and the european economic area rely on the standard contractual clauses that google publishes and applies to firebase customers if that arrangement changes we will change this page why we are allowed to hold it if you are in the uk or the european economic area the law wants us to name a reason for each thing we do with your information ours are short to give you the service you asked for your account your content syncing it between your devices and taking payment if you subscribe without this there is no atelier to keep the service standing up bot protection rate limits abuse prevention and the small amount of error and performance information described above we have a genuine interest in atelier not falling over or being abused and none of it is used to build a picture of you because you asked us to reading your location for the sun dial tagging an entry with where you are or making a profile visible to other people each of these is off until you turn it on and you can turn it off again because we have to keeping records of payments for as long as tax and accounting rules require we are based in the united states and have no office in europe write to support atelierjournal com and you reach the people who actually run the service not a queue who processes data on our behalf two companies and no others google firebase authentication firestore cloud storage cloud functions app check hosting sign in storage and abuse prevention stripe payment processing if you buy a membership payment happens on stripe s own pages your card number never touches our servers and we never see it we receive only the fact that a subscription exists and its status features that reach out to other services some parts of atelier fetch information from other companies some of these your browser contacts directly which means they can see your ip address others weather and turning coordinates into a place name we relay through our own servers so those companies see us rather than you each entry below says which none of them receive your name your email or anything you have written unless stated otherwise cookies and tracking covers the same ground from the other direction what is stored on your device and which of these companies set anything of their own weather open meteo before a forecast is requested your coordinates are rounded to one decimal place roughly 11 kilometers so the request describes your general area rather than your address the request is then relayed through our own server which means open meteo sees our server rather than you our relay holds your ip address in memory briefly to limit request rates and does not store it maps and location search mapbox openstreetmap nominatim when you type a place into an event or a journal entry what you typed is sent to nominatim by your browser together with a wide search area centred on your rounded position rounded the same way as above to roughly one kilometer so that nearby results rank first when a map is shown mapbox receives the map requests and collects its own usage telemetry governed by mapbox s privacy policy rather than ours your browser contacts both of these directly so they see your ip address if you would rather not involve them don t add places to events or entries book and film details open library apple itunes search your search terms are sent when you look up something to add to your media room link icons google when you pin a link atelier fetches that site s icon from google s favicon service this means the web address of every link you pin is sent to google on this day wikipedia a calendar date is sent nothing about you is included protecting the app from abuse atelier uses google s firebase app check with recaptcha enterprise to confirm that requests to our servers come from the real atelier app rather than from a script impersonating it to do this google runs a check in your browser that looks at signals such as your ip address your browser and device characteristics and how the page is being interacted with it produces a score not a profile we never see the underlying signals only whether a request passed this is a security measure it runs automatically whenever you use atelier and is not something you can turn off google s handling of this data is governed by the google privacy policy information that is sensitive by nature some of what you can keep in atelier falls into categories that deserve extra care mood and wellbeing mood journal entries and the names you give your own habits are health adjacent and in some jurisdictions are treated as health data we treat every journal entry that way rather than trying to guess which ones qualify atelier asks before it records your first mood and you can change that answer at any time in settings advanced our consumer health data privacy notice covers all three in full including how to have them removed location two separate things in atelier involve where you are and they behave differently enough that we describe them apart the first is the sun dial and the weather widget which need only a rough idea of where you are atelier asks your browser for your location during setup and you can decline if you do or if you turn it off later you pick a city from a list instead and nothing about your device s position is read when you do allow it the position is kept in your browser s local storage on that one device it is never uploaded to us never synced between your devices and never included in a data export the single thing that leaves the device is a lookup to turn it into a place name and that is rounded to roughly one kilometer first and relayed through our own server so openstreetmap sees us rather than you we do not store it the reading is discarded as soon as your device enters a different time zone and in any case after seven days the second is a place you attach to something you have written which works the opposite way and is described just below we treat all of it the same way we treat everything else you write it is not analyzed not profiled not used to build any picture of you and not shared with anyone it is stored so that it syncs to your devices and it is deleted when you delete it if you would prefer something not exist on our servers at all the reliable answer is not to put it in and if it is already there deleting the entry deletes it places you attach to what you write a place on a calendar event or a journal entry is not the reading described above and the difference matters it is saved on the entry itself which means it is exact rather than rounded it syncs to your other devices it is included in a data export it is drawn as a pin on your atlas map and anyone you share that entry with can see it nothing is ever tagged automatically a journal entry gets a place only when you press tag with current location while writing that entry or when you type a place into it yourself there is no setting that turns this on for everything and reopening an old entry never re reads where you are the place on an entry stays the place it was given if you type a place rather than using the button your exact position is never read suggestions are simply ranked around the rounded position described above or around the city you chose removing the place from an entry removes it everywhere including from the map the name shown beside a tagged place is looked up precisely unlike the rough reading described above your exact coordinates are sent through our own server so openstreetmap sees us rather than you and the name that comes back can be a street address or the name of a building that name is saved on the entry alongside the coordinates so it syncs it appears in a data export and anyone you share the entry with can see it if you would rather not have that type a place into the entry instead typing never sends your exact position only the rounded area described above photos and a limit you should know about photos you upload are stored at a web address that cannot be guessed that address is not published anywhere is not listed and is not searchable however any signed in atelier user who obtains the link for example because you shared a board that contains the photo can open that image directly and will be able to keep opening it for as long as the file exists even if you later stop sharing the board with them deleting the photo in atelier removes the underlying file and breaks the link for good we are telling you this plainly rather than describing photos as strictly private because private would overstate what the system actually guarantees sharing with other people atelier is private by default nothing you write is visible to anyone else unless you share it when you do share something a journal a board a calendar the people you share it with can see that content and the display name and profile photo on your account if you send or accept a friend request a limited public profile consisting of your display name profile photo the cosmetic styling you have chosen palette fonts and name styling whether your account is on the paid tier and any boards you have chosen to make public becomes visible to other signed in users the rest of your account is never readable by anyone but you feedback and diagnostics when you send feedback through the in app button we receive your message together with your account identifier the email address and display name on your account whether you joined through a beta invite your browser s user agent string and the time you sent it we use this to reply to you and to fix what you reported feedback is therefore not anonymous feedback boxes are often assumed to be which is exactly why it is worth saying in practice we read the message and not the name attached to it we look at who sent something when we need to reply to you when a problem has to be reproduced on a particular account or when a report obliges us to act on one that describes how we work it is not a technical guarantee the information is available to us and what we are committing to is what we choose to do with it atelier also contains a hidden on device log panel used for troubleshooting problems that cannot be reproduced elsewhere its contents stay in your own browser s storage they are sent to us only if you deliberately copy or share them or if you are an administrator of the app the waitlist if you give us your email address on the home page to be told when atelier opens that is the only thing we take the address itself in lower case a note of which part of the page you sent it from and the time you sent it no name no account no cookie and nothing that follows you afterwards the home page loads no tracking of any kind we use it for exactly one thing writing to you when there is something to say about atelier opening we do not sell it share it or add it to anything else it sits in the same google infrastructure described above ask us to take you off at support atelierjournal com and we will without asking why creating an atelier account with that address and later deleting it also removes the waitlist entry how long we keep things we keep your content for as long as your account exists delete an item and it is removed delete your account from settings and your account record your entries and your uploaded files are removed from the live service a few things are not swept up automatically feedback you have sent us friend requests ...
