community strategic partnerships where we work resource mobilization for transitional justice in africa update on legacy work the africa transitional justice legacy fund atjlf was established in 2019 to pioneer and promote african led and enduring transitional justice efforts on the continent what began as a three year 3 5 million project of the ghana based institute for democratic governance ideg became an independent entity in 2021 and has since evolved into an institutionalized nine year 18 million fund atjlf s core mandate has been to empower local partners to engage in transformative and sustainable interventions that meaningfully contribute to the pursuit of truth justice and accountability atjlf has also collaborated directly with the african union and the economic community of west african states to advance implementation of the 2019 african union transitional justice policy framework autjp in addition since 2023 atjlf has partnered with the international center for transitional justice the centre for the study of violence and reconciliation and the african union through a consortium known as the initiative for transitional justice in africa funded by the european union the initiative aims to advance implementation of the autjp more broadly across the continent read more atjlf unveils legacy phase a pioneer in supporting community led transformative initiatives to grants 0 funds disbursed 0 the atjlf intervention is restoring at least 70 critically traumatized survivors of violence who deteriorated into full insanity due to the violence in nigeria s northeast most of them have regained their sanity and are bouncing back to normalcy grace samuel kishimi shelter and care foundation nigeria many beneficiaries especially communities that we enabled to carry out traditional burial rites for family members lost in the war have been very appreciative of our project we have also received positive feedback from our student beneficiaries there is a growing national awareness and appreciation of our work centre for memory and reparations sierra leone atjlf s funding enabled r2jtim to support 250 young victims to make statements at mali s truth justice and reconciliation commission more than 50 of beneficiaries were women and girls we also supported victim groups from toya and goundam to form an association to defend their interests together mr fodé
