friday 29 may 2026 onionowlwatchingu why animals do the thing the world center for birds of prey in boise has a new white faced owl chick and he s doing 1pm demos the next two days 5 28 5 29 i cannot sadly teleport to idaho this week but if you re in idaho and have thursdays or fridays off please go see this fluffball on my behalf alt i got to see the lil fella today so many people showed up they had to split the session into 2 groups so we didn t overwhelm the birb this lil guy is nox they aren t 100 sure what sex it is but they re pretty sure he s male he s a brancher so he can t fly yet but is real good at jumping in the wild he d be jumping from branch to branch to build up his flight muscles but he ll be flying soon nox is 5 weeks old weighs 190g and has reached his adult size but his repository photos that are free to use here s the important details a zoo within reasonable road trip distance for me just had a litter of capybaras two weeks ago they re stinking cute it s a two day drive each way and i plan to spend two days at the zoo i ll be car camping all of the nights on the road but need a hotel or airbnb for two nights in the city my original cost estimate was a little off due to the ridiculousness of gas prices at the moment r i p but i think 800 is the minimum amount i need to raise for this trip if we can fully fund the trip my plan is to go in mid may before the babies have too much time to grow up because rodents grow up so dang fast which means we ve got about two weeks to make this work if we can t raise enough funding for the trip to happen all contributions towards it will be put in a pot to be used for the next photography trip ideally i d refund everyone but payment processors make that so dang hard are we hyped for baby citrus bathing features one of the most requested features for the site is a random image button it is coming as part of the major site update in the works but i need to know how you want it to work my dev and i have completely different preferences re the ui so i decided we re just going to ask the audience we re building it for the reference in my head is the way stumbleupon used to work for folk who didn t use it or would be too young to remember it you went to the stumbleupon website and it gave you a blank page with a button that said stumble when you clicked the button it would load a random webpage the button stayed maybe in a top nav and you could click it again to stumble on a new random site i envision and analog of this for the repository where there is a single originally empty random image page at random that you d navigate to then when you click a button it loads a single image inside the page the url of the page would stay permanently at random there would be a thing to click if you
