procrastaenating on tumblr explore communities change palette sign up log in wasting time with style and some period class procrastaenating i should get busy on the good lord s work anyways here s what the babbler wishes to say meantime throwing rocks at the tailor 24 7 the bride finding what she s always waited for what pray is the tea follow posts following pinned procrastaenating reblogged supreme leader stoat follow 3 1 371 1 403 procrastaenating reblogged healerqueen luna azzurra tips for writing injuries again your action hero just got shot in the shoulder stitched it up in a motel bathroom and is now running through a forest i need you to know that a shoulder wound severs muscle nerves and sometimes bone and the human body s response to that is not mild wincing followed by full range of motion here is what injuries actually do to peoplee adrenaline is real and it does allow people to do extraordinary things immediately after injury but it is a loan not a gift you borrow the function and you pay it back later with interest your character might genuinely be able to run for twenty minutes after being stabbed and then the adrenaline drops and everything the body was delaying arrives all at once the collapse is not weakness it s biology collecting its debt write the debt collection it s more interesting than the heroic sprint anyway blood loss changes cognition before it drops you you don t go from fine to unconscious you go through a whole middle stage of confusion poor decision making emotional dysregulation a strange calm tunnel vision difficulty forming sentences your injured character making a bad call saying something they normally wouldn t becoming suddenly and inexplicably gentle that s blood loss use the middle stage it s dramatically rich and almost nobody writes it recovery has a timeline and the timeline is long and boring and inconvenient to plot a broken rib takes six weeks and during those six weeks sneezing is a genuine emergency a concussion means no screens no reading no bright lights and symptoms can persist for months a stab wound to the abdomen means weeks of infection risk limited mobility and a specific kind of exhaustion that has nothing to do with sleep your character being sidelined and frustrated and useless for a long time is not a narrative problem it s the story pain also affects personality in ways writers skip chronic pain makes people short tempered and then guilty about being short tempered it makes concentration difficult it makes intimacy complicated both emotional and physical a character who was patient and warm before their injury and is now snappy and withdrawn is not a character regression they re in pain pain is exhausting in ways that don t show on the outside the people around them noticing and not knowing how to help is a whole story in itself writing writing injuries writing research writing tips 6 1 009 2 987 procrastaenating reblogged buttercupr follow helen why do you stay that s weird when they re side by side like this they look identical must be a trick of the light c s lewis till we have faces 18 7 437 11 472 procrastaenating rewatching persuasion 2022 and i can t help but feel this could have worked as a story had mary been the fourth wall breaking narrator so much of anne s given dialogue fits mary s character and the movie s internal logic much more coherently and her actress absolutely steals the scenes she s in persuasion 2022 persuasion 2022 persuasion mia mckenna bruce 2 procrastaenating reblogged thatscarletflycatcher arctasy follow i need less interpretations of toxic or abusive relationships occurring out of a lack of love and more interpretations of love as a complex emotion that is not inherently pure you can do horrible things to someone because you love them you can love someone but love something else more in a way that hurts your loved one you can love someone deeply and be bad at showing it in a way that causes harm i need more people to see how love can powerful and real and not a guarantee of anything sometimes it s not just obsession or manipulation or an attempt at control sometimes it s also love and sometimes love is the only motivation sometimes it s ugly despite being true this this this we re all not perfect beings and we hurt each other in new and interesting ways so show us why love despite despite despite show humans making mistakes pls complicated humanity 36 6 181 10 205 procrastaenating favorite dinosaur guy asked favorite dinosaur brachiosaurus they seem so cuddly for a being so big brave rose responds dinosaur procrastaenating reblogged eternalgirlscout follow i love when women in fiction react to impossibly terrible situations without grace or kindness i completely misread this the first times this is why it takes a ton of strength to offer a different door through difficult situations i do not think it is stronger for women to react this way but i dearly want to see humans in media again we aren t all of us going to react with grace and kindness to suffering sometimes i d rather see a mistake and how it gets or doesn t get corrected because that s how life is both and both in its place women in fiction 7 2 381 3 873 procrastaenating reblogged werewolf transgenderism follow nice medievalism you ve got there why is it entirely in shades of grey and brown ye fooles bring back
