the room half hidden in the evening shadows but your gaze feels as tangible as a touch i see it in the mirror as i sit at my vanity unwavering steady as though you can see more than just my reflection the delicate chime of metal breaks the quiet as i remove my earrings setting them down on the cool glass my fingers glide lightly over my cheeks sweeping away the last traces of makeup until my true skin glows warm beneath the soft light my hair loosens under my touch falling in silken waves over my shoulders catching faint sparks from the lamp i rise unhurried the quiet stretching between us on purpose my hands find the edges of fabric layer by layer it slips away with a faint sigh against my skin before settling silently to the floor a fleeting glance over my shoulder eyes meeting yours carries an unspoken invitation a spark lit and left hanging between us then i step into the bathroom vanishing from view the sharp hiss of running water greets me quickly softened by steam unfurling into the air it curls and swirls settling over glass and tile altering the edges of everything it touches the space smells of warm water and the faint sweet trace of vanilla from my skin i sense your road leaning against a lamp post as the last rays of sunlight slipped beneath the horizon the sky burned briefly in hues of gold and fading blue light folding into shadow something about it reflected how he felt inside a restless mix of chaos and quiet longing the street was sinking into darkness except for the lamp s warm circle of light he was about to leave when movement at the far end of the road caught his attention a lone figure approached quick steps head lowered as she drew closer the lamplight brought her into focus a young woman early twenties long dark brown hair loose to her waist strands brushing across her face with each small breeze she wore a brown long sleeved t shirt and loose faded jeans with slightly scuffed sneakers one strap of her bag hung low against her side when
