mit last year so i ll pay attention to what i m doing with my time and i ve already set a time limit on the apps that i use to kill time so i stop spending two hours a day or sometimes more on them i think this is a good place to start off the year from so may 2025 bring it on until next time happy reading random bookish stuff random non bookish stuff month in review july august 2024 september 2 2024 hannah leave a comment happy september everyone we are hitting my favorite time of the year the icky summer humidity passes we get some warm days and we start to move into the crisp fall weather there is nothing else quite like fall in new england so with all of the craziness of the last five or so months where are we at my transition at work is pretty much complete everyone is trained up my workload is mostly my new stuff plus the few things that moved with me and not a mix of new and old thank the universe and i m finally starting to get into a rhythm there it took longer than expected but we got through it i do have a bunch of reading that i d like to get to but i m not going to rush it especially since september is going to be a crazy month thursday i m leaving for denver with my best friend for our birthday trip this year then i m home for eight days before heading to italy for work i tacked on four days at the end of that trip so i could do some sightseeing and what not since i haven t been to italy yet so i m not going to be back to the states until the 29th at least i ll have plane and train time for some reading these months i read engines of empire the age of uprising 1 by r s ford this is actually a reread for me but i think book two in this series is going to be my travel read this month so i wanted to reread book one before starting that plus i just wanted to see if this was still a five star read a year or so later it is currently reading clytemnestra by costanza casati i did get a bit further in this in fact i only have about 70 pages left so i m hoping to finish this one today dragonflight by anne mccaffrey i started this on a whim last weekend and read the first few chapters i m definitely intrigued by the story and looking forward to seeing where it is going to go upcoming reads you know me and tbrs did i stick to anything i mentioned last time i tried this nope am i going to suggest more books now that i want to try and read this month yep engines of chaos the age of uprising 2 by r s ford as i mentioned above i think this is the book i am going to bring with me on my trip to italy to read on the plane train the god of the woods by liz moore i m not 100 on this one but one of the online book clubs i sometimes read along with is reading this book this month and i am intrigued by it so i d like to read along if i can make it work i ll definitely need a lighter read at some point this month so i ll probably work something else in here whether it s a curious beginning a reread of a favorite or some sort of romance we shall see non bookishness outside of reading i have been doing a goodly amount of tv watching as i had a huge project going on in august so when i got home from work some days i would just put on a show while working on my project i started watching seal team this month because teenage me looooved david boreanaz as angel and so i continue to watch every show he does if not right away i also decided it was time to finish charmed which i never did when it was originally on i remember the end of season five but if i got beyond that i do not remember currently i m mid season three the most exciting watch for me in august though were the first three episodes of season two of the rings of power which dropped thursday i watched all three episodes that night and cannot wait for the rest to come out even if i do hate waiting what have you been reading watching etc until next time happy reading month in review month in review june 2024 july 5 2024 hannah 3 comments howdy and happy july world another month has flown by the stanley cup has been awarded and summer is officially under way i ve actually been in calgary this week visiting family and i m getting some reading done away from the distraction of work imagine that as far as my mid year goals go i m still trying to find balance but by the end of july i should be done training people at work and my workload should lighten up substantially from what it has been so i am looking forward to that so i can get back in touch with the things i enjoy in life i did manage to read a book in june though so go me this month i read pucked by helena hunting this was a hockey romance that while not a 5 star book was very easy to read which is what i needed to start getting my reading mojo back currently reading clytemnestra by costanza casati i definitely need to brush up on my greek mythology and while there is a part of me that wishes i had gone back to the original stories of clytemnestra before picking this up i am still enjoying the book overall upcoming reads i don t set specific tbrs typically simply because i can t stick to them to save my life that said i have a few books that i started and did not finish over the course of the past eight or so months that i d like to finish the fires of heaven a curious beginning and more plus i ve got some series i d like to finish up i m looking at you mistborn trilogy non bookishness i don t have much else going on right now in my life i have two knitting projects i ve been working on one is a hat something that will knit up in just a few sittings so i can get that sense of instant ish gratification the second is a longer term wrap that i m chipping away at a little bit at a time hopefully i can get it done before winter is over but who knows lol sixty inches of stockinette stitch and fingering weight yarn means i could be here a while aside from that i ll be back up in new hampshire for a couple of days for work and i m going to stay for the weekend so i can get some hiking and biking time in what are your summer plans anything good until next time happy reading month in review happy june 2024 june 2 2024 hannah leave a comment hi there my name is hannah and i ve finished approximately two books since early january that s not normal but i did really dig into one of my goals for this year which is getting back to knitting after spending some time knitting gifts at the end of last year it was important to me going into this year to get back into touch with using my hands to do something other than operate a computer to work welp i did accomplish that but i learned something else in the process i need balance in my life it seems that when i want to do something with my free time it s all or nothing so my big mid year goal is to find some balance with the things i want to do with my free time and to work less to have more free time to do things with that part will take a while as i took a promotion and i m still training the people who are taking over my workload plus getting the training i need plus some other stuff but my goal is that i will have some balance in place by the time i go on vacation june 30th so that when i come back i can be enjoying the things i love more often and not be all or nothing with everything i do wish me luck i don t have any notable reads from this year so far seeing as i ve completed approximately eight books and it s june i do have some recent purchases that i ve acquired that i am excited for though so here those are i don t know what will be coming up for me here so you ll find out as i do in the meantime do tell me about your first half of the year any notable reads until next time happy reading random bookish stuff month in review december 2023 january 1 2024 hannah 3 comments hello there and happy january december flew by as the months seem to do lately but such is life it was a quiet month for me in terms of reading but i did get a lot of knitting done for christmas gifts etc which is nice sometimes it s nice to take the time to do something with my hands this is actually one of the things that i told myself i would prioritize when i quit my second job earlier in the year but didn t actually do until december in that i m happy to have finally spent some time working with my hands anywhoodle let s get to it this month i read this was a very quiet reading month mostly because i wasn t listening to audiobooks while i was knitting i completed one book and am currently working through two others i finished coach by devney perry yes i know this was not on my end of year tbr but sue me no one actually believed i would stick to it 100 anyways i am currently reading a study in drowning by ava reid the pocket a hidden history of women s lives by barbara burman and ariane fennetaux these two are both on my end of year tbr so there s bit of success in it for me this month i hauled i picked up a few books this month between extra book of the month credits and sales and gift cards after all i m always happy for an excuse to book shop 2001 a space odyssey by arthur c clarke medusa s sisters by lauren j a bear how infrastructure works inside the systems that shape our world by deb chachra the hurricane wars by thea guanzon the deep sky by yume kitasei divine rivals by rebecca ross weyward by emilia hart a winter in new york by josie silver all the light we cannot see by anthony doerr the women s war by jenna glass vita nostra by marina sergey dyachenko the lord of the rings by j r r tolkien the emperor s blades by brian staveley non bookishness i already mentioned the knitting that sucked up most of my free time in december but what else did i do while i was knitting away you ask watching stargate sg1 of course this is my first start to hopefully finish watch of the show and i m kind of grossed out by how much of it i ve watched in the last month but i do so enjoy it so continue i shall as i work on completing my current project how was your december any good books or big accomplishments until next time happy reading month in review this is how you lose the time war by amal el mohtar and max gladstone december 14 2023 december 10 2023 hannah 1 comment this is how you lose the time war by amal el mohtar and max gladstone publisher saga press scribd e book 209 pages all good stories travel from the outside in red and blue are agents on opposing sides of a war that crosses time and space both are fighting to ensure victory for their side that there is a best future for themselves and their people yet just one message left for the other on the battlefield is enough to change the course of past present and future this is how you lose the time war is one hell of a book it is beautiful and confusing and addictive and there is so much whatthefuckery but you can t put it down because you are hooked i have never read a book like this before and i m not certain i ll read another book like it again there is just something about it that is so compelling even though i spent most of the book wondering what was going on in fact the first note i made when i started this book that sums up my reading experience perfectly this book is strange but good strange i think so far it s not just the story of these two agents but how they communicate to each other the messaging was so inventive and the language was beautiful i may not have known what was happening but i knew how they felt and what their concerns were i knew i was looking forward to the next message because i was curious what shape it would take sometimes feathers others lava but it s never the same way twice the relationship they developed and the form it took it didn t make sense and yet it made every sense there was just something about this one and it s hard to discuss without giving anything away i ll admit i spent a good portion of this book wondering if it was too smart for me that said i m glad i stuck it out because it ended up being very worth the ride definitely recommended particularly for those who enjoy unique takes on sci fi stories 4 5 stars book review fiction futuristic science fiction top ten
