i wore yesterday instead of the jeans i m wearing today this was bad because the only thing i have to eat at work right now is a jar of peanut butter ok so it s not that bad then as turn on my computer and begin returning happy fridays to my fellow cubes i was informed that we re having pizza for lunch in honor of the new boss not only that but it s my favorite kind gratis hope you re friday is pizza filled only two and a half more days to monday yippee dick 1 comment posted in job dick goes to denver posted on june 25 2010 1 comment i spent some time in denver two weeks ago visiting old friends and making new ones the focus of the trip was on watching the opening games of the world s most popular sport suck it nba playoffs and thus sight seeing and city exploring activities were limited to the following great divide brewery i recommend well anything but buying a t shirt there why would you buy a shirt when you can spend the money on delicious microbrews the fanciest bowling experience i ve ever had which isn t saying much that included rounds of long island iced teas for god s sake and whatever bars we stopped in on our let s walk home and stop in all the bars we pass on the way there journey post bowling in other words it was a very high brow affair thankfully we enjoyed what can only be described as shitty weather from the moment my plane touched down in the wee hours of friday morning making it much less of a moral dilemma as to whether we should really be spending our days indoors watching tv and guzzling beers coming into the weekend i d been diligently participating in one of my favorite past times mustache growing not everyone finds this as funny as i do some might even call it douchey however i find it both hilarious and oddly fulfilling i wasn t growing it for any particular reason but as the much discussed u s england match approached on saturday the hideous outcropping of upper lip hair mustache became an unlikely good luck charm okay i ll shave it if we lose i promised to the group what ended up actually happening is that i decided to shave the ends after the u s came out flat footed and allowed england s captain steven gerrard to easily slip the ball into the net just four minutes into the game i suppose it s a bit far fetched to think that the source of england s football prowess is born of or somehow sustained by my mustache but c mon this is the world cup i d shave the balls of a live mountain lion if it would guarantee a u s victory i finished the job after we scored to equalize about 30 minutes later hoping to spur the americans to a winner so the official records show that i removed the mustache for the good of the country and the u s soccer federation unofficially i removed it because it was beginning to get rather bothersome but mostly because it proved to be highly efficient at repelling women after spending monday watching more cup games sobering up and traveling i made my mustache less return to the office that tuesday it turned out to be a fine day to look not like a jackass because i barely had one foot into my cube when i was introduced to my new boss i mean he s not my direct boss because i m junior enough that there are several layers of the hierarchy between the two of us nonetheless he can definitely tell me what to do and that means he s a boss i should ve immediately started trying to curry favor and form an alliance but instead i ll consider it a success if he knows my name and doesn t think i m a complete moron easily attainable goals that s my motto 1 comment posted in job traveling world cup what s in your circle posted on june 10 2010 2 comments i like to be up early in the morning which is not the same as liking to get up in the morning the actual physical act of pulling my body still warm with slumber up and out of the bed is sincerely dislikable once i m up though i love it i use the time to read write and just think in doing so this morning i was reminded of an important concept priorities we each have a finite amount of time and energy to dedicate toward all aspects of our respective lives there are 24 hours in a day 7 days in a week 4 weeks in a month and so forth this is constant and unchangeable thus we must choose carefully that which we bring into our life many of us share the same primary consumers of time and energy we work for a living regrettable but necessary for the moment we have spouses significant others and friends we have kids and pets then there s that damn guest bathroom that still needs refinishing oh and there s the food drive down at the church on saturday and that 5k coming up that you haven t really been training for and you re still on the same page of that book you bought six months ago and you haven t spoken to aunt liz in weeks my point of course is that we must learn to prioritize what we bring into our lives i like to think of it as a circle a circle that s fixed in size no matter what so when we pull one thing into the circle another must drop out thus we should give some deep thought to what s in our circle and why it s there not only that we should make it a point to revisit the topic regularly what is truly important to you what have you wanted to do forever that you haven t you must make it a priority you will have to remove or possibly minimize something else from the
