lung being a failed future of project hail mary here s a free world build to make it work the major change to project hail mary the crew scientist catch the astrophage measurement mistake before it happens so dubois lives and is the one sent up in the hail mary grace never gets in that rocket and instead watches it blast off along side stratt but tragically dubois dies in his induced comma along side yao and iluyukhina the hail mary arrives at tau ceti with only corpses on board rocky dies alone in space the major change to iron lung lore the stars died first to astrophage then decades later all the dead suns and remaining chilling planets vanished in the quiet rapture the world fell into chaos as the decade went by stratt doing everything in her power to save it grace still by her side still doing research and helping where ever he can there might have been a day when talking over the failure of project hail mary stratt admits she had grace considered a back up candidate as the mission scientist grace is both horrified but unsurprised at this admission however grace doubts that he could have changed everything he was just a school teacher after the hail marys failure and the reality becomes clear to the world a faction of the rich and powerful become obsessed with escaping the dying chaos of earth by starting a colony on mars and fresh start to humanity in a fully controlled and protected environment a new garden of eden if you will by the time the quiet rapture occurred there were multiple space stations between venus and earth those that were observing the astrophage and between earth and mars the rest stations between those traveling between the two planets if both planets are actively already dying it would make sense to have higher populations on these space stations and would give perspective on the brotherhood of eden not only as martian superiority but also as a doom prepper cult who got proven right when the quiet rapture happened lastly so much information was lost in the rapture but i like the idea of the coi knowing who eva stratt was the woman who did what it took to try and save the world who made the hard choices to ensure the survival of the cause grace might be little more than a footnote mentioned as her pet scientist poplasia oh fascinating i really enjoy the alternate world what went differently angle i ve been thinking about the same kinda concept except it s one timeline rather than multiversal my turning point was the radiation that killed the majority of rocky s crew in this version of events blip a still loses a lot of crew but not everyone the reduced team arrives at tau ceti maybe they find the solution or maybe they don t but they decide that they have to return before they lose too many eridians maybe they make it back maybe they don t either way they aren t in the system when grace arrives earth never learns about eridians at least not at that point grace wouldn t have been able to retrieve a sample from the planet without rocky so though he can theorize solutions he can t just send one back maybe earth would ve tried to send another mission when they heard back from the hail mary maybe they had already shifted focus to other means grace is still remembered as a hero but a tragic one somebody who gave up everything for a chance even if it didn t work i feel like that would resonate with the eventual post quiet rapture world it s fairly bleak for both planets i really love your adjustments to the quiet rapture the time line change comes about by the iron lung ending up warped in a strange limbo present in tau ceti but not all the way in that time its shedding radioactivity ends up accelerating the decline of the crew on blip a and ultimately leaves rocky stranded perhaps it ends up eventually colliding with blip a while grace and rocky are at adrian setting up a chance to discover it there at any point after returning there s weird time crap going on here where simon in the iron lung is not experiencing nearly as much time passing as the outside world is these two worlds are so interesting to combine and mess with autumn sweet fae holy fuck that s increadable oh my god that is such a fucking cool concept like grace could legit be a fucking saint in the cult of eden and for one star to still live in this dead universe his story would sounds like a fairy tale mothers tell their children that some where out there is a star that still lives and orbiting that star is the tomb of the one person who knew how to save the universe saint grace entombed in the resting place of his ship the hail mary humanities final hope dancing in the shining light of the only living star left for eternity hope itself is seen as a shining star to the cult as they live surrounded by the dead echos of dimming light and a cult would only see perfection in their savior so they would preach about how grace had willingly sacrifice himself for humanity for sure he s a martyr who bravely gave it all to save the stars and then there s the knife to the gut of simon time traveling and irritating the remains of crew oh fuck that s so good for simon to kick off saving reality by damming rocky to watch his crew die horribly to radiation poisoning and then decades of lonelyness i m of the opinion that the rocky we know is not the same rocky that left for the mission ooooh and logistically it would be perfect if blip a hits the pocket of space simon and the death sub are temporally trapped in on their way to tau ceti blasting themselves with radiation then on rocky and grace s journey back to erid they will likely take the same route so grace would be vigilant of any radiation readings to protect rocky and would find the weird as fuck reality defying death sub glitching in space and time so first an adventure in physics as grace and rocky try to figure out what this thing is then they d get to the sub without killing themselves by using
