27 hey guys i have decided to sell my c 11 project i ve got too many things going on this coming year and i need to get this camper project off my table and into someone s hands that can take the time to finish it off and appreciate it i m going to sell everything that goes with it all the old stuff all the new stuff and the tools if you want them i also am going to get rid of the 1994 ram 2500 cummins with torque lift mounts and extended camper hitch i ll put the camper on the truck and you can drive it home pulling a trailer with all the other stuff i know i am not going to get my labor work continues since the last update we have resealed the roof with kool seal painted and installed the propane box and started putting the interior back in hoping to take a big swing at this thing over the holidays and make some real progress 1 comment posted in camper restoration no small projects oct 13 no small projects so the idea here was to pop out the old water heater box and drop in a new water heater how difficult could that be right well like so many things on this camper there are no small projects apparently in 1969 rv water heaters came in different shapes and sizes to the ones on the market today of the two commercially available rv water heaters today none of their offerings fit the hole in the side of my camper where the water heater is supposed to go so that was the hurdle in this project making the hole wider and shorter this required cutting skin moving ribs and fabricating structure not a big deal but it turned the two hour project of installing a new appliance into a two week major project of course this sets up the next dilemma which is how to deal with the now polar white water hater door i could paint it silver i could strip it and polish it or i can spend 100 and but a stainless one from airstream leave a comment posted in camper restoration uncategorized it goes on and on and on and on and on sep 1 been plugging away slowly on the camper but its starting to take shape beyond the water fittings water heater and finish polishing all the outside work is complete on the inside the electrical structural and insulation are finished i will get the water heater and fittings finished up in the next week or so after that it s all about putting the walls back in i have decided to replace the inner walls with anodized aluminum like was originally on the outside of the camper so it will be polished outside and anodized and wood on the inside first we had to remove all the old foam that we put in early on in the process found out that open cell foam is a big mold and water trap new insulation will be foam it green closed cell insulation foam wire wheel on a drill is a good way to remove old foam makes a hell of a mess though finished up patching all the things that are getting patches after i am finished with the foam installation i will trim all the foam so it does not protrude out into the walls that will also make it more pretty being hidden in the walls forever though i am not to worried about pretty insulation foam after much testing of the fan vent it is time to finally put that sucker back in the fan vent cover is a sloppy piece that uses a lot of sealant to make it water tight i did some grinding and bending to make it fit better you can also see one of the bullet hole patches in this pic too that was done since last post the drip rail over the back door was a major sticking point for me it was pretty beat to hell and hours of tweaking and beating on it with a hammer only made it slightly more presentable solution throw it in the shed for 12 months it didn t look as bad as i remembered so we polished it up and riveted it back in place with copious amounts of sealer the area under this drip rail is a big collecting point for water and it was originally filled with putty this last patch was another sticking point with me that area had a lot of little dings in it you can tell this camper must have lived next to a tree that had a branch that rubbed right in that area the two bigger holes were no brainers to fix but the little dings were not so bad not so bad that is until the rest of the camper started to look good i bit the bullet and put a huge patch over the little dings polished out it will be another cool patch 2 comments posted in uncategorized mar 10 since my last post i have been working on getting the camper ready to receive the interior walls my main project has been getting all the electrical wiring installed and all the systems figured out once i put in spray foam insulation and then put the walls in there will be no going back to add wires later this also the last time i will be able to buck any solid rivets to the exterior skin so i have been finishing up little patches and repairs basically everything on the outside of the camper needs to be finished in order to put the walls back in finally figured out the oven fan vent and how it works rebuilt that with a piano hinge not sure what material they used on the original looks like it might have been a fiver tape next is water heater and then foam time leave a comment posted in camper restoration
