mary s focus on platonic relationships is so important to me for so many reasons it s like project hail mary is a big popular movie it has fucking ryan gosling in it and there s not a hint of a romance plotline anywhere it s all entirely focused on platonic relationships the friendship between grace and rocky is the focus of the movie and it s so important to the story they both found someone to be brave for someone they were willing to die for without their friendship and collaboration neither of them would have been able to save their home planets their bond is so close and special and above all their best friends and it s beautiful there s also grace s relationship with stratt stratt is the main female supporting character in any other story any other story i can almost guarantee she would ve been the love interest but she isn t and it s fucking wonderful just just think about it for a moment project hail mary is this big blockbuster movie and it looked at eva stratt and said we re not going to make her the love interest because she wasn t in the book and she doesn t need to be their dynamic is just as fucked up and wonderful and traumatic when they re friends that s such an amazing thing to see in such a mainstream movie and of course it means so much to me that grace is aroace and that the film and the book continuously point this out he leaves the party when he sees people getting together he s only had one girlfriend half the time he s wearing the colors of the aroace flag in the book he s incredibly confused when people think he and stratt are sleeping together stratt uses his lack of romantic relationships as a justification for sending him to die which is heartbreaking and it felt so real because society is constantly telling aroace people that we re worth less because we won t date or get married or have sex because we don t fit into societal norms what stratt said to grace that s something the world is constantly telling us and then the movie flips that on its head it says that it doesn t matter that grace never had any of that because he loved living and he loved his students and he was so full of love for everything around him and he met his best friend in space and their friendship was what made them able to save their homes and each other it s just in a world where there s hardly any aroace representation having this riemann hypothesis tags from op okay so context i m a number theorist and i m doing my senior thesis on a particular area of primes so obviously i m fond of them and also i ve been awake under half an hour so this is unresearched math major half remembering a dozen books the reason people want to communicate with aliens using primes is that we don t know if aliens have the same counting system as we do so anything based on the digital representation meaning the actual 1234 digits you write down in decimal might not be universal and we want to show mathematical competence so that means something requiring effort to know about but not too much or we might accidentally miss the alien competence level primes are a good choice for this because they re independent of base i could give unconsciously or consciously make every single character they create super pretty like everyone is just hot in that very boring homogenous way and this also comes as a result of people using actors and celebrities as character references or faceclaims and ai facial generation programs like artbreeder being trained on people who are generally very pretty looking it results in alienating uncanny worlds and drawings completely devoid of people who just look like regular people it results worlds populated by mannequins fresh off the cw i feel like whether a character is attractive or not should actually matter be part of their character because that kind of thing absolutely affects the way you move through the world and the way the world treats you so i wanted to throw in some suggestions that whenever i m trying to find a character reference or otherwise draw very interesting looking yet regular looking people which i usually have to do for bit characters in ikroah or something i tend to look for references in the following places these are far from the only reliable way to get inspiration this is just a non exhaustive list of places i ve looked before for visual inspiration when needing to create a character whether starring characters or background ones pre 2000s television the sopranos and twin peaks especially having incredible character design extras in comedy sketch shows esports players real photos not staged stock photos of line cooks 70s baseball players athletes from more obscure olympic sports like the javelin toss or greco roman wrestling especially if you re looking for a specific body type ska jazz and blues musicians firefighters improv troupes for teenagers searching high school english class project on youtube and sorting by upload date state senators small town mayors and generally obscure local government positions like comptroller or treasurer yes i know politicians can be bad sometimes but smaller elections especially don t really depend on looks people who walk by your window if you live in a city like i do and again these are just in my opinion deep and easy wells to dive in if you want to get a good idea of what regular
