shadow is active playful and chatty taking into account shadow s super friendly and easy going manner shadow s foster mom tried out a harness on him not a situation many senior cats would take to but shadow loved it he was rocking and rolling all over his foster mom s yard and enjoying the sunshine direct from the source from the safety of a harness to top it off shadow is also incredibly loving and seems most content when he is laying on a person shadow loves his harness it allows him to get out and about in the sunshine and the grass without fear of getting lost or hurt upon arriving at black cat rescue shadow visited the vet where bcr learned he has hyperthyroidism and minor kidney disease daily medications and a special diet have had his medical issues very manageable and should not prevent shadow from finding a loving home to live out his golden years shadow proved his excellent taste in loungewear by napping on his foster mom and her bcr winter sweatshirt to help bcr in finding a home for shadow a very special cat lover stepped up to sponsor shadow this sponsorship covered not only shadow s adoption donation but included a sustaining contribution to help bcr cover the costs of shadow s ongoing medications despite his medical set backs shadow has been a friendly and loving cat throughout we knew he would make a perfect pet for a very special someone roseann contacted black cat rescue to find a new companion when roseann met shadow in early june it was love at first sight shadow is such a friendly guy it took no time at all to hypnotize roseann into taking him home with her after going home it s been awesome roseann let us know that shadow follows her everywhere and takes his medication like a champ congratulations to roseann and shadow we are so uncategorized happy tail rocky posted on june 1 2015 by bcrbloglisa leave a comment black cat rescue is very pleased to announce that rocky has found his forever home rocky came to bcr after being found as a stray cat at five years old he was beat up and scruffy and he tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus as well fiv cats can live long full lives with proper care for their compromised immune systems so rocky was neutered and came into foster care to await an adopter the vets who worked with rocky commented on what a sweet boy he is even stressed out from the ordeal of being rescued they described his demeanor as grateful and we knew rocky would thrive in a home rocky when he was picked up poor guy we were eager to get him into a bcr foster home for some tlc when rocky arrived in foster care he was greasy and needed a really good grooming but happy to be there he immediately cuddled up on foster volunteer sarah s lap and took a nap as rocky settled in he caught up on the sleeping and good eating he missed out on the streets and got over a bit of a cold from the start rocky was a sweetie but as he got used to the good life he blossomed into a total lovebug rocky looks so handsome once he cleaned up in his foster home rocky spends as much time as possible in a person s lap he has super thick luxurious fur so it s a great thing that he really enjoys being brushed and stroked we knew it would be no time at all until this great guy found a forever home rocky is a total lovebug friendly easy going and super affectionate not to mention he s incredibly handsome nick and melissa contacted black cat rescue to find a friendly affectionate indoor cat to join their home they had a particular interest in adopting an older cat susanna the bcr adoption coordinator thought that rocky would be a perfect fit for nick and melissa when nick and melissa met rocky in late may they loved him the visit was delightful and rocky had found his forever skyler needs your help posted on may 29 2015 by smangela leave a comment skyler is a sweet five year old girl who though shy purrs readily when you pet her and really loves to be brushed she s so sweet in fact that you d never guess how hard her life has been when animal control took her from a hoarding situation last summer skyler was skinny scared and very sick not only did she have severe dental issues that made it too painful for her to eat but her left eye was stuck shut with thick green goo see image of skyler when she first came to black cat rescue help us raise 3 000 for skyler s care animal control transferred skyler to a local shelter where she had surgery to remove most of her teeth the surgery helped with the dental disease and skyler started eating again because she wasn t in so much pain her eye didn t get better though even after a long course of antibiotics the shelter was afraid that skyler would have chronic discharge for the rest of her life and that she would never be adopted because of it that s when skyler came to black cat rescue black cat rescue immediately made arrangements for skyler to get the specialized care that she needed for her eye her doctor discovered that a long term infection had created a hole between skyler s eye socket and her tear duct system the infection was cause by a bacteria only rarely seen in small animals the good news is that the culture results helped skyler s doctor prescribe new more effective antibiotics the bad news however is that this is a serious infection requiring long term treatment and in order to plan this treatment skyler s doctor needs to order more tests we need to know as much as we can about how skyler got infected as well as how much damage the infection has already done she s been responding well to treatment so far the next step for skyler is to get a cat scan of her skull information from the cat scan will not only help inform a treatment plan for skyler but will also shed some light on what skyler s life might be like after her treatment is completed even with generous discounts getting skyler healthy again will be an expensive undertaking the cat scan will cost over a thousand dolalrs and skyler will need months of antibiotic therapy she may also need more surgery to remove infected teeth or bone we think skyler is worth it though and we re determined to help her heal so black cat rescue is very pleased to announce the adoption of hunter we are so pleased to announce hunter s adoption hunter came to black cat rescue from another area shelter where he was too shy to meet adopters the shelter staff saw that despite his stress and nerves he was leaning into pets and definitely affectionate but the cage lifestyle just wasn t for him when the shelter contacted black cat rescue to see if we could take him on we jumped at the chance hunter wasn t cut out for the cage lifestyle and came to bcr to stay in a foster home until he was adopted hunter arrived in his foster home with kristen and andrew and won them over almost immediately as predicted he is super affectionate and gentle with head bumps for everyone and little kisses all over his foster family hunter also proved to be very playful very vocal and he gets along great with other cats basically the perfect companion hunter is so affectionate this pesky phone won t get in the way of tummy rubs when keely read hunter s adoption profile she was interested in him immediately keely scheuled a visit with hunter in his foster home where he was shy at first luckily for hunter keely was very understanding of his hesitation his notes from the previous shelter discussed his stress and shyness when we showed keely the notes her reaction was perfect oh my little baby he s nervous he has all the time in the world to relax and get accustomed to here keely s home we knew right then that keely and hunter might just be destined for each other hunter and keely are a match made in heaven this handsome boy loves to sleep in keely s bed and she wakes up with his head on her shoulder each morning when keely took hunter home he was nervous at first but warmed up quicker than we could have anticipated it has proved to be a match made in heaven keely has kept us updated on hunter s transition and there have been tons of silly little stories about how well he s doing just as kristen had mentioned he follows keely around and chats up a storm with her letting her know his opinions on pretty much everything and just generally acting as her shadow when hunter isn t preaching his kitty wisdom to anyone who will listen he s holding onto keely s arm to give it kisses exploring every single nook and cranny of keely s home or keeping keely s shoulders warm through the night it s a perfect match hunter surveying his new domain his exploring in natural but he scared the pants off keely one time by climbing high onto her cabinets and refusing to come down until he was good and bcrbloglisa 1 comment this happy tail has been almost four months in the making but today black cat rescue is so pleased to announce the adoption of milo milo has been adopted congratulations milo milo came to black cat rescue when his former owners brought him to the vet to be put to sleep for a urinary tract infection they were not willing to treat despite his illness milo was super friendly and gentle with the vet staff milo is a young cat around 2 3 years old and it was clear that he should get a shot at a long happy life with a family instead of euthanizing milo the veterinary staff chose to treat milo s infection and contact black cat rescue to find a safe space for him milo is a quiet soul and he startles easily so he took some time to settle into his foster home diane the foster volunteer has developed quite a reputation for being able to bring shy cats out of their shell so milo went right off to diane s house milo loves other cats when he first arrived in foster care he hid constantly as he settled in he noticed ellie the resident cat in his foster home and it was like she flipped a switch in him milo immediately came out and started flirting with ellie from
