litter of capybaras two weeks ago they re stinking cute it s a two day drive each way and i plan to spend two days at the zoo i ll be car camping all of the nights on the road but need a hotel or airbnb for two nights in the city my original cost estimate was a little off due to the ridiculousness of gas prices at the moment r i p but i think 800 is the minimum amount i need to raise for this trip if we can fully fund the trip my plan is to go in mid may before the babies have too much time to grow up because rodents grow up so dang fast which means we ve got about two weeks to make this work if we can t raise enough funding for the trip to happen all contributions towards it will be put in a pot to be used for the next photography trip ideally i d refund everyone but payment the site is a random image button it is coming as part of the major site update in the works but i need to know how you want it to work my dev and i have completely different preferences re the ui so i decided we re just going to ask the audience we re building it for the reference in my head is the way stumbleupon used to work for folk who didn t use it or would be too young to remember it you went to the stumbleupon website and it gave you a blank page with a button that said stumble when you clicked the button it would load a random webpage the button stayed maybe in a top nav and you could click it again to stumble on a new random site i envision and analog of this for the repository where there is a single originally empty random image page at random that you d navigate to then when you click a button it loads a single image inside the page the url of the page would stay permanently at random there would be a thing to click if you wanted to go to the permalink of the individual image but the way it would display that it would be loaded inside the random page rather than taking you to the image s specific permalink my dev guy envisions a random option more like the current xkcd feature in that option the option for a random image would be i don t know quite the right words it would still be a link in a menu but instead of taking you to a specific random page it would just take you to a random image s permalink like xkcd takes you directly to a new comic s permalink he envisions a random button appearing on each individual image like on xkcd so you can navigate to a new random image without having to hit the nav link again i think he imagines it as being something that would only appear once you hit random image the first time and would not necessarily be a permanent fixture on every single image open the way it is on every xkcd comic what would be better for how you want to use a random image tool i know people have requested it for things like warm ups and practice that doesn t require choosing what to draw as a non artist my inclination is that a single image siloed on a fairly blank page would be cleaner and have less distractions but would still give you a way to click through to the image permalink if you want to see all the tags or the species info my dev guy think it would be more useful to just take you to a new image permalink every time you hit the button so that you would have all the information associated with the image immediately aesthetically i want the clean container and don t want to clutter the image permalink pages but that is also definitely influenced by my fondness for extinct websites like stumbleupon i would rather go with whatever is best for the people using the site even if i
