comment october 13 2025 the current gaza war now has a cease fire without going into but aware of the polemics and the diverse ways society views the current and past tragedy one that goes back to the days before balfour to the holocaust 1948 1967 and 1973 to the present i revisited a film waltz with bashir this documentary earned a nomination for an academy award as best foreign film in 2008 and placed or won various awards with its release including the writers guild of america award for best documentary screenplay the film recalls the shabra and shatila massacre as witnessed by two israeli soldiers and lifelong friends who revisit the tragedy and their own complicity the last scene where one of the soldiers witnesses the horror is one of the most stunning ends to a film ever the screen
