facebook share to pinterest 18 may 2011 mission mba accomplished just last week justin completed is last meeting for his mba he did it i tell ya life never moved so fast as it did through this mba but we made it the program had a end of program lunch at a restaurant on the beach here in nice although families weren t invited me and the kids totally crashed it boo ya here are some pics lounging working on a tan ashish and evie were bff egyptian student wore his traditional costume and shared with henry henry wore his traditional pirate costume there are much better pics on facebook from other students i kind of concentrated on my two little people i am really excited about what we will potentially be doing next i can t really talk about it though because it s just an idea and there is no concrete plan yet okay i ll admit i m already talking about it what i m excited but only with some people if i talked about it as official then we might end up not doing it and going a different direction or saying something which the others involved aren t on board with blah blah blah so no details here but if it does work out and god does open the door i will be really happy i see the vision i can see the gospel in this business i can see the future in it that has never happened for me i sure hope this works in the meantime we are enjoying some time off from learning and working we have two weeks left on the southern coast and we mean to enjoy it june 1st we land in america and stay for the remainder of the year i can t even believe it we even have a home henry is enrolled in swimming lessons and a fall preschool woo having a plan looked like it would never get here but here we are sure it s fluid and may only be seven months long but i ve learned to work with that because by is that i have blogged twice in one day you re welcome the next item is to announce that i will be writing a new blog at a new address coming this summer we are moving back to the states and i want to start anew i want to be more personal share things i find and recommend things i find useful for kids crafts spiritual growth style etc you know a real blog this one has had to be restricted in many ways because of our possible location i feel better now that i can be personal and safeguard at the same time the title of the blog ebenezer rising reflects my desire to remember that thus far the lord has helped us i blogged about this once before and it continues to be a theme in my journey each week i want to post an ebenezer so that i can remember where god has brought me from and how he has been faithful that way when i look forward and see something that is difficult i can look back and see all my ebenezers and say thus far the lord has helped me i want to invite you to raise your ebenezers as well i ll have opportunities for other to share their moments to encourage each of us along the way i m trying really hard to plan and organize ahead of time so that i can better to pinterest listen the village church i ve been devouring a sermon series lately and i just have to share it s from the village church the series is called ultimate authority and it s awesome who uses authority and awesome in the same sentence i do when it comes to this series there are seven parts and just to whet your appetite here are the topics ultimate authority and the suicide of rebellion ultimate authority revealed government and institutions guiding and confronting the mess disciplining the disciple submitting in gray areas authority in the home confession i have kind of avoided this guy s teaching for one reason only he s famous he s popular i get real nervous with famous and popular when it comes to pastors the saying has been true that the bigger they are the harder they fall many times their teaching is more emotion driven and hyped for being cutting edge or something like that rather than grounded in scripture and then they turn out to be less than honorable men i hate that however i know many people who love matt chandler the pastor of the village church i have not been eager to jump on the band wagon for fear he may not be what he seems at the same time i have been in desperate need of good biblical preaching not intellectual teaching not beginner stuff and i found that in this series what i love about it most it s all from the bible he doesn t argue with any other evidence like sweet stories with morals at the end he pointed me to the scriptures and in a series on authority that s exactly where i needed to be it the bible is the ultimate authority matt doesn t come off as the authority in this series he could but he doesn t he s balanced in his teaching and by that i mean he s not extreme on any side except that god is creator his word is holy and authoritative and that jesus is the savior by whom we are saved by grace through faith alone so check the series out they ve got plenty more sermons and i intend to keep facebook share to pinterest 12 april 2011 on leaving and arriving and leaving again and we re back we re approaching the end of our time in france may 11th is my husband s last day in his mba classes next up is an internship somewhere for at least two months i want to be back in the states if no other option becomes available by my daughter s first birthday june 19th it s april 12th today that means about two months left i haven t always liked it here we weren t supposed to be here passed a year and now we re closing in on two i never thought we d live in france this long but now now i m finally getting settled and it s just in time for us to leave i think i m speaking french better i know my way around my 3 year old son is loving school and speaking french finally i think i might have finally broken in to the circle of moms who pick up their kids at lunch when i pick up henry i like the food i might have a friend or two there is a nice rhythm to my days life is good but it s over or at least it will be in two months then i go back to living in a place i m not familiar with i will have to build new routines find my way around break into another circle of moms keep up my french and my son s french and for under a year probably under six months and then you guessed it take three it s emotionally taxing to say the least as a woman i find it my unique burden my husband s burden is to find a job and provide for our family mine is to create security stability and community by directing the affairs of our home and i don t mean just doing laundry or washing dishes i mean i have to find the grocery stores buy the groceries create meals out of what i can find bring it home while dragging two babies with me i manage our activities the children s learning sleeping playing i find where the post office is the bank the best parks hospital doctors pharmacy internet in a new place with a new language and a new system of how things work it s not easy and i can t believe i january 2011 17 months 17 months that s how long we ve lived in france now that s how long we ve been away from the states in that amount of time we ve lived in massy marseille and nice we ve been to germany twice morocco and italy once for 10 months of it we lived within a 35 meters squared space for 9 of that 10 months i was pregnant with our little girl i gave birth in france we ve studied french justin has studied for the gre and is now studying business our son has started school for the first time and it s in french we potty trained in france we ve celebrated two christmases and two thanksgivings in france my little girl who is now 7 months old has always lived in france she is a french baby henry turned 2 and 3 in france justin turned 30 i will turn 30 in france it s been a year and a half of milestones when you see the number 17 months it doesn t seem like a lot of time there are plenty of longer periods of time however when i reflect on what has happened in that amount of time i am overwhelmed how are we still standing how have we survived the insanity i can honestly and with no spirit of super christian in me say only by the grace and mercy of god before my life overseas i would say something like that and think i knew what i was talking about i was as sincere as i could be but the truth is i had the grace of god and my ingrained knowledge of how to do life among my people working for me too i don t have that here i won t have it in the next phase of our lives so by the grace of god and only by the grace of god do we walk this road i don t know that it would be possible to know how desperate and how absolutely essential the lord is in my life if i hadn t left home and stayed away for this amount of time i had to get away and really have nothing else to be forced to put all my hope in him when i did i found that treasure in the field now that i ve found it i don t want to lose it 17 months is really just the beginning isn t it i am so glad to have the treasure of the gospel i imagine i will have to find it again once i get too comfortable i pray i always will because it is worth selling all i have and losing all i am to find it 2 comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest 23 december 2010 ebenezer on a rare occasion when my mind wasn t occupied with immediate needs or nap schedules or grocery lists i got to thinking about testimony i enjoy the imagery of the ebenezer which in hebrew means stone of help ebenezer scrooge is from a christmas carol but he was not helping stone you might also know it as that weird word in the hymn come thou fount here i raise mine ebenezer hither by thy help i m come and i hope by thy good pleasure safely to arrive at home it comes from the book of 1 samuel when the prophet samuel marks god s provision of help by raising up a stone of help 12 then samuel took a stone and set it up between mizpah and shen and called its name ebenezer for he said till now the lord has helped us 1 samuel 7 12 esv it s a physical memorial established in remembrance of what god has done for his people in my life god has rescued me so many times it s overwhelming most recently it s been in an area of my life where i have experienced destruction for over 10 years i haven t found a way to speak or write about the truth of god s rescue because i have such a small faith i can t bring myself to step out in faith and say god has done this because i fear it will immediately return and my heart will be broken but he has done it i have had victory for months now and for those rescues god deserves and i desire to mark them with an ebenezer it s small things too we are constantly moving homes i ask the lord for grace to live in what he gives us but he also knows my heart for silly things like a big kitchen or pretty features i have a beautiful place right now and i want to give god the glory for it he is my help he is my shelter he is my provider i am blessed by his small gifts to this girl i know he matters more than a pretty house he knows i breathe easier with a pretty house i m mixing two ideas here testimony and remembrance i think we need to tell others how god is working or providing or blessing or challenging our lives these are our testimonies our stories of our experience with god we also need to testify to ourselves by remembering where god has brought us where we have come from what we were when we did not place our faith in him or what our lives are like because we do and in spite of what natural circumstances would dictate our physical memorials ebenezers to the lord granted we must root our thoughts and experiences in the scriptures there are so many experiences that when sifted through the word of god result in just empty warm fuzzies only the word of god lasts forever i m thinking of creating an ebenezer art book of sorts when god does something significant whether it be a healing or providing a small special things if it speaks significantly to me i want to create an ebenezer for it maybe write a short description of it and paste a photo or a symbol on the page then we can flip back through and remember god s provision his help him in all our trials and victories these can be shared with others who we invite into our home to tell the story of god in our family this would be a way to talk about my faith in christ with someone that could open up discussion of faith matters here this blog should be part of that i hope to raise my ebenezer with you in this new year will you join me 5 comments email this blogthis share
