charley project blog day september 23 2026 still without home internet unfortunately september 23 2026 september 25 2026 meaghan 2 comments so i subscribed to an internet plan and the service provider was supposed to send the necessary equipment and it was supposed to arrive today a box did arrive today but they forgot to include the router they re very sorry they re sending a router also michael has ordered a router of our own so we can have an extra one but it will take a day or so for either of these devices to arrive i tried to set up a wi fi hotspot with my phone but my pc didn t recognize it or something i might have just done it wrong as i had never tried to set up a phone internet hotspot before i ll ask michael about it when he gets home tonight nothing to be done but wait no case updating no streaming video no downloading kindle books no telling google home to turn the lights on and off have to turn them on and off with my hand like some kind of peasant lol fortunately i always have a zillion or so unread dead tree books lying around and also have about 20 or so books downloaded to my kindle i can use my phone to browse the web and doomscroll i can post my daily quota of medical case reports to reddit with some difficulty the format is inferior when posting with the reddit app using a browser is much better but my reddit fans are appeased if i miss a day of medical posts i get people asking me why like are you ok i made a lot of reddit posts yesterday and today not just medical ones but also historical photos and death certificates and wikipedia entries right now i m reading among you taking notes which is the diary a scottish woman named naomi mitchison kept during world war ii she was writing for a project called mass observation which asked a lot of ordinary british people of all demographics to keep diaries about their day to day lives and send them in so there d be a historical record of how normal people lived mass observation s diaries were initially just put in an archive and just kind of forgotten about but in recent decades they ve been rediscovered and some of them have been published either in anthologies or as stand alone books i ve read several of them and have a few of them among my aforementioned collection of dead tree books naomi was a somewhat known author and socialist and was acquainted with a lot of british writers and politicians of the day she was involved with a lot of local community stuff and was married with several children during the period she was keeping her diary she had a baby and it was born at home like babies usually were in those days and the baby seemed all right at first but then suddenly died hours after birth apparently of a malformed heart naomi wrote about it in her diary in a fairly matter of fact way and said the doctors told her there was nothing anyone could have done after a week or so of diary entries she never mentioned the dead baby again she didn t really write much about her emotions in spite of the internet annoyance i m doing fairly well at the moment i hope to be able to update again soon tangents search for follow the charley project blog on wordpress
