cliffbee com transformer toy reviews actionmaster bumblebee cliffbee com actionmaster bumblebee toy review home individual review name bumblebee series generation 1 allegiance autobot function espionage alt mode none was a vw beetle robot mode height 9 5cm width 4 5cm unsurprisingly bumblebee is yellow and black the torso forearms head and feet are yellow while the legs upper arms and fists are black his face is silver while the eyes and windows on his chest are blue these are his cartoon colours the original bumblebee toy had all black arms and black windows on it s chest despite the changes it s instantly recognisable as bumblebee who is easily one of the most recognisable g1 characters the colours work quite well and are appropriate for the character and if anything the blue windows represent an improvement on the original the bodyshape is a radical departure from the rounded form we saw on the minibot which was more or less retained for goldbug and pretender bumblebee instead we have a more cartoon like shape which fits into the actionmaster theme there are front wheels on the outsides of the feet and vestigial rear wheels on his shoulders while the toes have the headlights and distinct hood of the beetle the biggest change on this toy is the head which is far more cartoon like than his previous incarnations the horns are curved and more prominent as if he s wearing a viking helmet while the rest of the body is not as round his head is a bulb sort of shape which doesn t quite look right mainly because the forehead is too big poseability is the same as every other actionmaster head turns arms rotate and legs have g i joe poseability fully poseable hips knees bend 90 degrees he s certainly more poseable than the original was which isn t really an achievement but then after four releases this is the first bumblebee with any real articulation the partner heli pack ok not so much a partner as an accessory but it s a fairly useful one most of the 1990 classic actionmaster characters were sold with accessories rather than partners and many were downright silly but the heli pack works as a concept it s blue and yellow which is a close enough match to bumblebee himself it works fairly well as a backpack but not so well as an extended gun due to it s bulk of course the pistol itself is yellow so on it s own fits in which bumblebee perfectly i tend to prefer drones to straight out accessories for actionmasters and while this is one of the better accessories it doesn t really add much to bumblebee and is easily forgettable variations none that i know of overall an obvious candidate for the actionmaster line unfortunately this toy doesn t quite work as planned they ve attempted to make a bumblebee that matches his cartoon incarnation but a misshapen head hurts both this idea and the toy as a whole the heli pack is a decent idea but doesn t really add much to an uninspiring actionmaster i d only really recommend this one to fans of the character or hardcore actionmaster fans 5 10 transformers and other indica trademarks of hasbro and or takara
