transfer criteria all students the faculty of commerce requires students who want to be considered for transfer into the faculty to meet the criteria below please note that admission is competitive and meeting the criteria below does not guarantee admission meet the minimum entrance requirements for the faculty of commerce for the year of application as published in the undergraduate prospectus based on results achieved in a school leaving qualification nsc or equivalent the annual gpa must be at a minimum of 60 and no subject must be failed the courses must be relevant and transferable to qualifications offered in the commerce faculty via a process of credit and exemption the applicant must be able to finish a degree within the commerce faculty in the minimum time this takes into consideration the number of years already taken within a bachelor s programme for external applicants the years at another university and for internal applicants the years in another faculty all transferring applicants must have valid national benchmark tests nbts that meet the minimum requirements of the commerce faculty please note transfers are not permitted into the actuarial science degree specialisations internal uct transfer only applying to transfer to commerce from another faculty at uct please note uct internal transfer applications for 2026 have closed the process and dates for the 2027 academic year will be made available in october 2026 process for students transferring from another university an applicant from outside the university of cape town currently enrolled at another university who would like to transfer into the commerce faculty must apply through uct s online admission system this includes former uct students who have completed courses at another university the deadline for 2027 transfer applications from another university is 31 july 2026 as part of the admission application the applicant must declare that they have previously been registered at another university we will not assess credit transfers before you have successfully applied to uct by the requisite deadline equivalent credits students who have previously studied at another university may be credited for courses deemed equivalent to uct courses however please note that if you wish to graduate from uct your final year level subjects should be done at uct to be eligible to graduate with a uct bcom degree all third year 3000 level courses must be completed successfully at uct to be eligible to graduate with a uct bbussc degree all fourth year 4000 level courses must be completed successfully at uct please note that the commerce faculty does not issue letters for admission to other universities for students to complete equivalent courses elsewhere applicants must apply to the other university in their personal capacity the assessment of the equivalence between your external course and the uct course is done by the head of department for that subject at uct readmission after academic exclusion if you have been academically excluded it states on your academic transcript not eligible to continue your uct record will become inactive and you will not be able to return to the university in the year immediately after your exclusion you cannot ask another faculty at uct to accept you exclusion is from the whole university not just from one course or faculty should you wish to seek admission to the university of cape town uct at a later stage the following will apply you must submit a new application for admission by the prescribed application deadline in the year preceding the year in which registration is sought please see application procedure and apply online you must provide evidence of successful completion of credit bearing courses for degree purposes at another recognised higher education institution demonstrating academic progression since your exclusion you must demonstrate that the degree can be completed within the maximum permitted n 1 period calculated from the date of first registration for the degree for a three year degree the maximum period is four 4 years for a four year degree five 5 years the n 1 period applies to the degree as a whole and includes all periods of study at uct and or any other institution applicants who have exceeded the n 1 period may not be considered for admission admission is competitive and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an offer of a place for study please note to be eligible to graduate with a uct qualification final year level courses must be completed at uct for a uct bcom all 3000 level courses must be completed at uct for a uct bbussc all 4000 level courses must be completed at uct for additional information please see helpful information and tips if you are anxious about exclusion from further study at uct entrance exams all students some courses require you to write entrance exams to be admitted to the associated programme accounting to register for the second year accounting courses eligible students who satisfy the faculty s transferring criteria must write the acc1011n financial reporting i entrance exam and obtain a result of at least 60 students who obtain a result of 50 59 in the acc1011n entrance exam will earn a cr for acc1011s financial reporting i but will not be permitted to continue into the second year acc courses noting that there is presently no equivalent to acc1015 accepted from another university it is therefore unlikely that a student is able to satisfy point 3 under general transfer criteria above for students to be able to transfer into an accounting programme from another university graduates of other universities may consider the advanced diploma in accounting which replicates the final year bcom ca programme please refer to the latest commerce undergraduate handbook for detailed admission criteria entrance exams for acc2012w acc2018h acc2022h and acc2023h will be required economics all transferring
