at de brug picture sa army corporate communication share facebook twitter linkedin email whatsapp sa army chief lieutenant general lawrence mbatha made time in a busy free state provincial schedule this week to inspect equipment back in south africa following utilisation in two democratic republic of congo drc deployments the equipment was used by sa national defence force sandf personnel mainly from divisions in the landward force as well as sa military health service samhs staffers it is according to sa army corporate communication presently stored in shipping containers at the de brug mobilisation centre and will be verified and accounted for before being returned to the army inventory ahead of distribution to units as needed before being shipped to durban the equipment was issued to in the first instance again according to sa army corporate communication the south african component of the monusco force intervention brigade fib quick reaction force qrf the return of personnel and equipment is in line with president cyril ramaphosa s decision to withdraw south africa s troop and equipment contribution to the long running united nations un mission known by the french acronym monusco mission de l organisation des nations unies pour la stabilisation en république démocratique du congo in the troubled central african country while at the mobilisation centre where the sandf on friday 29 may marked the international day of un peacekeepers at the wall of remembrance mbatha gave the once over to equipment used by sandf personnel detached to the southern african development community sadc mission in the drc samidrc that mission ran from december 2023 and finished in march 2025 as operation thiba with troops exiting the mission area of operations aoo three months later mbatha emphasised the importance of taking care of sandf equipment and highlighted the importance of using capabilities that exist within the sa army to fix own equipment and ensure its serviceability
