well as the solidarity i ve seen the kids are chanting more seats in high school so we don t end up becoming cops more seats in university so we don t end up in the anti crime squad all of the while have the same chances and opportunities as we do the black and arab kids protecting elderly people who end up gassed by the cops just because they were walking around a woman is looking for a group of black and arab kids who removed their jackets to cover her elderly mother protected her with their own bodies and then walked her all the way to her place there s tons of videos of the kids helping and protecting people who were in the crossfires in the very same low incomes neighborhoods schools were the medias are saying the teachers are in danger because of the violent kids the same teacher surround the kids protesting to create a human barrier between the cops and the children and protect the children from the cops the same teachers who are called lazy by the right all year long are offering private lessons in small groups online for free on saturdays and sundays for the kids who are protesting but are stressed out because their average bad grades means they can t afford to just miss classes randomly so each day they protest will cost them later on for their exams rivals schools are uniting for the protest too an older couple in their 60 s in paris saw the kids blocked and surrounded by the police under their window they started catching the empty water bottles the children were throwing at them and started filling to make sure the kids would stay hydrated halal fast food chains are lowering their prices for the kids protesting so they can grab something to eat one halal fast food opened their door for a bunch of kids who were running from the cops and then they locked the doors so the cops couldn t get in the cops were trying to break the windows but they couldn t and the kids were safe inside in the south a group of farmers joined the kids with fresh and homemade food to offer them breakfast apples homemade apple juice honey homemade jam some farmers even made coffee for the kids who drink coffee a medic said that at a protest a kid had accident and ended up on the floor a nurse got there and asked for space the kids immediately gave her the space she needed they also made a large circle around them to protect them and they used their signs to make some shade for the nurse the medic and the kid who was wounded the medic asked the kids the call an ambulance the kids had already done in in 10 minutes the wounded kid was safe in an ambulance and the kids just continued their protest the medic said i quote adults wouldn t have behaved better it was the perfect behavior in such a situation they didn t even try to film and all like adults experience a person who commits suicide is in so much suffering they just cannot take it anymore it is a moment of weakness most people who judge them just don t understand what it feels like are potentially correct but while we might have this pervasive narrative of being driven to suicide in modern culture and to be clear i m not denying its legitimacy i am just acknowledging that it is just one framework through which suicide is understood and expressed among many even if it is a dominant one now the church s teachings on suicide were not formulated for this particular understanding of suicide but with suicide as a broader phenomenon the condemnations of suicide arose when the church was still a minority in a culture that viewed suicide very differently than we do today it was not only acceptable but sometimes an action worth celebrating one of the things that surprised my wife when i was taking a course on the first decades of the roman empire were just the sheer amount of people who were killing themselves for some it was a matter of wanting to maintain personal honor or to avoid capture in battle to deny an opponent the glory of defeating them and at times even to that doesn t mean that everyone who commits suicide is damned and the church has expressed possible exceptions to the suicide is mortal sin principle for over a millennium at least nor should we
