loved it posted by dave and hayley at 12 33 pm 3 comments thursday january 24 2013 update on owen s eyes this was in an email to jesse so last week i went to the eye doctor for owen dave couldn t come with me but mom did which was great especially because we both kind of got lost trying to find the office it was dr dries at primary children s and he was great owen got his eyes dilated which takes 30 min and the doc was running 45 min late so we were there for about 2 hrs luckily owen was really good though so the doc looked at his eyes and did all these little tests with lights and stuff then he told us what he found he said that buster has a crossed eye well he kind of crosses both he can focus on things close up but not so much on things far away the doc said that in 3rd world countries the eye that crosses in just eventually goes blind because they don t can t really do anything to help it that made me sad and scared but then he said but you don t have to worry about that phew that was a relief so basically owen has to wear glasses to be able to learn how to use both eyes properly i don t really get how that works but i know it strengthens the muscles in his eyes he has a checkup on feb 14th to see how the glasses are working the doc said that its usually 50 50 that the glasses solve the problem on their own but if they don t he will have to get surgery to reattach the muscles on his eyes to straighten his vision either way he will most likely have glasses through his childhood but the doc said that he will be able to see just fine and hopefully won t have to have glasses when he gets a little older i wasn t that surprised at first i knew he had to have something to help his lazy eye and i am glad it wasn t anything worse i guess in some cases lazy eyes are also a sign of a neurological problem yesterday was his first day wearing the glasses he tried to take them off multiple times but i just kept putting them back on i think he will get used to it and will like that he can see better last night when dave and i went to bed we were talking about owen and dave showed me a picture from a pack meeting with owen on dave s shoulders without glasses for some reason that was the moment the seriousness of this hit me and i couldn t help but cry i tried to be so strong about it but it just killed me to see his little sweet and innocent face without the glasses i realized that yesterday was the last day that we would have his little face and eyes without anything blocking his cute little features it may not seem like a big deal but as a parent you worry about every little thing with your kids literally everything you want them to be perfect in every way of course to me owen is perfect the glasses won t change who he is as my sweet little owie bear i am so thankful that it isn t something worse and that it can be fixed we are so lucky to live with the medical advances we do i will keep you updated on how his next appointment goes but for now just call him nerdy boy posted by dave and hayley at 9 03 am 5 comments sunday january 13 2013 buster laughing this was one of the best moments as a parent so far owen was laughing so hard you can
