creative with my ideas i went looking through the craft section of frames and boxes that you can paint my friend needs her living room decorated so i figured the more i could do to cover space and stick to a theme on a budget the better and that s when i spotted it a blank hanging slate i immediately went off track from my paying job and thought bad wolf that s all i could think of suddenly i was set on the idea for it had to be done because to me nothing had ever been so perfect this is actually the first time i ve ever painted a pre bought craft item it was really enjoyable it was like a quick little warm up to get my creative juices flowing for my big paintings i need to do for my friend the paintings by the way i am just thrilled about as a marylander always known for being artsy out and about the last couple weeks but i have managed to finish a couple paintings they are both 16 20 and painted with watercolor over vintage recipe cards the pictures aren t great but it is a bad habit of leaving about 1 of a drawing left and never finishing it but with some time to relax on a sort of vacation i happened to stumble upon him and decide it was finally time 39 667578 76 recently i had all but given up hope on digital drawing teaching myself just seemed very overwhelming everything i did just looked horrible because i didn t really know how to use my stylus or my tools properly this is where a silly little game called drawquest comes in a random twitter friend introduced this to me and i ve been hooked ever since a quest of the day is posted and every user is free to do whatever they want with it with nothing but a paintbrush a marker a pencil and an eraser it s extremely limited at first i was hesitant because i was just not very good or imaginative with digital things but the fact that the tools are so limited it forces you to push yourself while being uncomplicated enough to learn my first couple drawings were very simple and sloppy but i ve very quickly improved once i find the right drawing apps for me i now have a new confidence to try going digital again and honing my skills if you have drawquest you can find me on there as drcupcakewho 39 little thing i tend to have my hand in every cookie jar my recent addiction is a site called postcrossing where you are paired up with people all over the world and them with you and you send them a postcard as simple as that no need to write an in depth letter explaining your life no need to send one in reply just pick a person pick a card and on to the next it s wonderful for my love of art and my low tolerance for follow through with this new obsession has come a new art form i went ahead and ordered a pack of blank watercolor postcards to design my own so far i am having lots of fun it started off with a girl i had to send to a chemist teddy bear collector from belarus who loves tennis and to travel i think you can guess which card i did for her then i painted another i based off of a watercolor painting i had done a year or so ago the shoe and the tardisicle is a design i had wanted to do for comic con so here we are i m taking a break to move on to some normal watercolor pieces maybe i will have a comic con arsenal i just don t know yet but i will surely try i quite really love the tardisicle and i d really love to see it get picked up if you would like to help out a drcupcakewho well as usual i always get in my own way it s been a month i d say at the least since i posted i m so terrible at sticking to anything but i m back that s the good thing right it s like a diet better to pick it back up at some point than just say f it and never eat anything but cake again man that sounds so good wait what the good news is while i was gone not writing and pushing myself towards comic con i was off doing my first paying jobs insert triumphant 80s movie moment about a weak kid who did some successful sports thing as you may have read i did that dog painting for a friend who paid in booze which lead to another pretty big painting that paid in cash and another painting that paid on cash i love animals while i may not want them to be my business forever as my art has usually been a little more bleak this is a pretty great start it s getting me used to what i need to do some good experience and word of mouth but for good measure between these two jobs i started a painting that came to me while watching hannibal because nothing says the opposite of man s best friend like a cannibal unfortunately all of this work has been a bit distracting comic con is 74 days away i have no full pieces yet and no guests that i were really hoping for have been added am i getting a booth i don t know i just haven t settled on it yet i ve been asked to do a couple more pet worked on making most of the paper mâché pieces i molded foil to the drawing itself and then molded those pieces on a table with the mâché most of them i applied after speeding up the drying process with a hair dryer a few i tossed at fear that the painting had become over crowded and now all that s left are the large bottom roots hanging from his face i will get to those but right now i was just really eager to start painting in the first painting photo to the current one you can see the details and depth that i m laying as i go along the eyes have already grown with detail and i hope to keep and the crazy thing is i thought it would be my most relaxed week by far funny how things never go as planned but i m alright with today s agenda it marks my second wedding anniversary to my amazing husband here s the little excerpt i wrote him and the card that i made him how are we celebrating going to look at more houses talk about an exhausting life experience tomorrow i will certainly work on swamp thing and post updates because i have let that go way too long once again for my husband two years ago today the most epic wedding of the century happened darth vader was there lord of the rings and betty white were in our vows batman and rubber duckies were on our cakes a baby was in a cage flowers were wrapped around stripper poles but most importantly i was there and by my side was the man who has always been by my side on my good days and my bad when we re laughing or crying or screaming at each other when i ve worked when i ve quit when i ve pursued my dreams and when i ve doubted myself he has always been there right there forever refusing to give up on me love is the easy part marriage is the hard part but if you have that love and a partner who is willing to fight 2013 by drcupcakewho mother s day is this sunday and there is nothing like deciding the friday before that you ll be doing a painting for your mother in law i m quite excited though i ll be painting the family s late kitty benjamin he was roughly 14 and 25 pounds when he passed he was absolutely the best cat you would ever have met he loved to be a pillow and if more than two people pet him at a time a tsunami of drool would occur such a loud purr you d hear it from across the room i m really hoping to capture the regal feeling he always gave off so proud that cat hopefully after this though
