rotate freely about its major axis of symmetry generating significantly higher lift in the process and a smaller upper fixed wing that provided the lateral control other modifications included a reinforced airframe enlarged vertical stabilizer and messier high shock absorbing undercarriage the basic idea was that for normal flight the lower wing could was locked functioning in the conventional way and it was disengaged for the descent to the ground the engine could also through a transmission and clutch system rotate the wings to increased speeds resulting in a marked improvement in performance the test flight program started in sept 1934 and was carried out near chevreuse the first flights of the aircraft were obviously with the rotary wings locked in conventional aerofoil configuration sadly the aérogyre was tragically lost in the accident a month later when its test pilot roger rigaud was trying a flight using the rotary wings in autorotation and some part
