preschool starts up again this week i can almost hear the choir of angels singing in the background my kids are excited i am excited we re all ready for a change back to a routine before that happens i wanted to share the gifts i made for their previous preschool teachers at the end of may ruffled wristlets i have one of these wristlets myself and it is incredibly handy in fact a couple of the teachers said they were meaning to ask me about where i found mine because they always saw it on my wrist when i d drop the kids off at school i used this fantastic tutorial by my friend alex of teaginny designs it s a fast and easy project and best of all it s instantly useful the kids helped a bit with the fabric selection and then we had another draft to decide the recipient of each key fob they love getting to make big decisions like that just like they did with the christmas gifts for their teachers this is a project i will definitely be making again i have plans to buy a ruffler chasing and booth prepping wish me luck 5 comments from business introducing the home sweet home pillow pattern april 20 2012 tags home sweet home wrapping up the week o new patterns we have the home sweet home pillowcase pattern in the midst of our many moves last year i started thinking about how we d decorate our new home and i couldn t get this pillow idea out of my mind it is a 20 pillow pattern and features paper pieced letters what if you don t know how to paper piece fear not the pattern booklet includes full color photograph step by step instructions for paper piecing the letters like all of my patterns a full size template sheet is included and the letter templates are already reversed for you easy i promise you melissa one of my testers who also tested the bleachers quilt was new to paper piecing and she had great success look at her pillow made from some moda grunge and basic grey fabrics jaime who also tested the crosshatch quilt pattern used some shot cotton and anna maria horner fabric to make this scrappy looking beauty i think that might be my favorite pattern photo shoot image of all time right there the backing of the pillow is also quilted which i think makes the pillow equally sturdy on both sides at the binding a flange is added which gives you another opportunity to pick fun fabrics being able to quilt something up quickly on your own machine is a great way to practice all of the techniques it takes to make a full quilt cutting pressing piecing quilting binding it s all here in a nice neat little package just check out the different ways we quilted our pillows i used straight lines seen above which start and stop to go around the letters sure it took more time that way but i really like how the letters pop a bit more jaime quilted hers with intersecting diagonal lines such great texture from this and melissa used an elongated zigzag stitch to achieve this fun look if you are in the market for a quick project to decorate your own home you can find the pattern in stock online at the fat quarter shop or here in kansas city at the bernina store on metcalf or bon bon atelier in westport look for the pattern to pop up in many other
