faced approach towards māori and seeking to undermine māori customary marine claims 66 on the second day the tribunal heard testimony from te arawhiti office for māori crown relations deputy secretary tui marsh who had attended the 21 may meeting between cabinet ministers and seafood industry representatives 70 on 13 september 2024 the waitangi tribunal released its initial report into the proposed changes to the marine and coastal area takutai moana act 2011 the tribunal concluded that the government had ignored official advice failed to consult with māori and breached several principles waitangi tribunal inquiry into the new zealand government s decision to scrap school boards legal obligations to uphold the treaty of waitangi and reset the new zealand school curriculum claiming they were inconsistent with the treaty and caused significant and irreversible prejudice to māori 77 on 11 march 2026 the tribunal granted urgency to the plaintiffs claim by that time the two parties had been joined by the primary school teachers union the new zealand educational institute nzei 78 on 15 april 2026 the tribunal began hearing the urgent inquiry into the government s school board and
