very often it s not just a saying that they know the person is still with them but that they literally feel that that person is part of the force and always will be that they can reach out and feel that presence because they are psychic space wizards this is a compilation of everything i can think of that would be of use if you re trying to write a jedi fic or if you re arguing online about jedi s attitude towards death we see at least three jedi funerals in the prequels four if you count qui gon s on naboo yoda gives a funeral speech we see the jedi do recognize death and that it s a somber moment but that ultimately they must turn back towards the light to remember their friends and family and loved ones in joy because they will always be with them in the force the high republic further builds on what the prequels already built if you re looking for more worldbuilding tips too jedi do mourn some struggle with it others are more prepared for it but it s a journey for all of them death is a natural part of life but it s not the end of life either when a jedi says they re one with the force it s not an empty platitude it s a how the universe they inhabit works on a narrative level the force is real and just as it comes from all life all life returns to it and becomes one with it again that s how the force works and if you re sensitive to it you can still feel those loved ones with you jedi have funerals to mourn the loss of the body but eventually they need to turn their gaze to the knowledge that the force is part of them and they are part of the force returning to it is not a bad thing and you should work to remember those people as the joy they were in their crude matter life without an end there can be no beginning the first demand of life is death closeness to the
