about 4 1 2 minutes between working out and picking up brooklyn at preschool to shower so now it s 2 hours later and time to stop looking scary on the way to my bathroom spy a clean batch of laundry sitting in the hall take it to my room and begin to fold find a towel that can be hung in the bathroom instead of folded take it there pick up kids clothes from bathroom floor and walk the 5 steps to the laundry hamper how come i m the only one who can do this resume folding remember that i forgot to call the dentist to see if there s openings tomorrow run downstairs to make the call make the appointment check on dinner go back upstairs oh there s an empty basket need to put in another batch of laundry pull the clean clothes out of dryer gather armful of dirty clothes oops didn t switch laundry from the washer to the dryer toss dirty clothes aside and do so pick up some toys and throw them in a nearby basket how come i m the only one who can do this oh ya put the dirty clothes in the washer see a hamper of dirty laundry that there s now room to sort might as well head back to finish folding see that i didn t get all the toys the first time stop and pick up the rest finish folding the laundry um why exactly did i come upstairs again it s bad that s only about 20 minutes worth and this happens all day long no wonder i get to the end of many days exhausted and wonder what the heck i did all day i m not sure there s a cure there s lists i make lots and lots of lists but madd still happens maybe i ll have to cut my kids some slack when they complain that it s not their fault they didn t ________ clean their room finish their homework practice the piano they got dis traaaaac ted apparently i do too now i m off to do my hair posted by erin at 3 09 pm 0 comments thursday august 22 2013 it s over already school started this morning i wasn t that happy about it in fact it wasn t until i was making lunches with excited chatter in the background that i looked around and saw 4 incredibly eager kids dressed in their first day best and it made me smile i got the tiniest twinge of excitement and realized it was going to be ok that someone else gets to spend all day with my kids and not me let s be honest by next monday i will have fully embraced it and will be shooing them out the door but today i m not quite ready for summer to be over we didn t finish everything on our list although we re still working on a few remaining activities since summer isn t you know officially over we did make quite a dent though here s a few things we were up to build something amazing with mini marshmallows and toothpicks check make s mores check payson scottish festival check make a silly face check help grandpa build a deck not on the list but fun anyway grandma shared her awesome pop up books while dad helped with the deck they were pretty dang cool it ll take another post or two to get through some of the other fun stuff we did it was actually a pretty quiet summer as quiet as it can get with 6 crazy spirited kids we didn t travel a whole lot or go on a major vacation but sometimes the summers full of long lazy days are the best posted by erin at 3 12 pm 0 comments tuesday june 25 2013 we have been b u s y crossing things off our summer list left and right june has been the perfect mix of lazy days and crazy days father s day was really nice muffins in the morning then stake conference home by noon instead of 4 00pm woot woot a relaxing afternoon lasagna for dinner and a movie good times we went outside a few days before and snapped this photo and about 57 others paired with the very accurate statement below this was one of sam s gifts he really is pretty much the most favorite dad of all time in the history of ever he s definitely my favorite guy of all time in the history of ever we built a giant fort another thing on our list to watch oz the great and powerful pretty good flick the only problem with a giant fort is it s not quite giant enough for everyone happy father s day dad here s a camp chair i found a really cool company online called houseparty it s a way for companies to advertise their products they send you the goods you throw a party seriously cool i got to host a nerf supersoaker cheetos party they sent 6 water guns and a huge box of cheetos we invited some friends and got our party on our little neighbor poppy couldn t you just eat her up the future face of cheetos the barkers have become our next door family our kids even fight like sisters ice on the tramp another item checked off the list we ve actually done this a few times the kids love it and you get some really cool pictures even if you lost the coolest ones when the blankity blank blank sd card got corrupted and had to be reformatted but i m not bitter last but not least the kids threw together a car wash one afternoon last week good times were had by all and the cars ended up mostly clean we re one month down now it s bitter sweet because it s going so fast but we re definitely accomplishing what we set out to do enjoy every single minute of it posted by erin at 11 29 pm 1 comments thursday june 6 2013 let the memories begin the days have been long and lazy so far maybe a little too lazy because i think i caught a whisper of i m bored a few days ago i stared down the offender til they went outside to play i can be very intimidating when i want to be of course the broom and dustpan i held inches from their nose probably helped they ve found all sorts of things to do brooklyn spends most days in her swimsuit with or without water play there s been lots of jumping on the tramp and only one trip to the emergency room no worries all is well one rainy day last week caleb mckenna and brooklyn built forts to read in even though i hardly lifted a finger i patted myself on the back for that one good mom day and grace is quite the little photographer she has been for awhile now she just sees things differently she will take pictures of odd objects from odd angles and end up with art i ll have to dig up the pictures she took of cheerios one morning they re really cool last week she found some willing models and went into yes into a shrub across the street and captured these our cute neighbor and good friend audry we also took a little trip to cache valley this last weekend to attend our new little nephew charlie s blessing it turned out to be baby central between the two families there were 6 brand new babies the oldest was 4 months and 2 were less than 2 weeks old there was no shortage of baby snuggling opportunities which is really good for me i need to live vicariously through others at this point i wish wish wish we d gotten a picture of all the little ones but i guess we were all too busy holding them we d planned to leave sunday afternoon but we were having too much fun and postponed our departure to after dinner then the kids came in screaming excitedly that they d been invited to ride horses we postponed our departure a little longer driving at midnight is fun right sam thank you dallas for a great summer memory posted by erin at 1 44 pm 0 comments tuesday may 28 2013 memorial day fun in the sun we usually like to plant our garden around mother s day but this year it just didn t work out until this past weekend memorial day we were extra ambitious and planted our cute little garden plot and a half acre in the empty lot next door it s not a half acre i don t even really know what a half acre looks like but it seems like a lot and when we were clearing out the weeds that started out looking like this it felt like a lot we forced invited our neighbors to help in return for all the zucchini they can eat fair trade right in a matter of a few hours it was transformed the hardest part of monday was that it started on friday the work part that is remember the cute little garden plot somehow it takes hours in the hot sun to make it look this good well it ll look a lot better in a few weeks when it s all grown up take a look at these adorable chives though i m pretty sure those two word don t appear together very often but look yes i actually thought about listening closely for a who but then i remembered i m not an elephant named horton so it probably would just look silly and we don t want that this is the other thing that happens when you spend hours in the hot sun wearing a ball cap ohhh babe i m so sorry posted by erin at 2 29 pm 2 comments summer i love summer i didn t used to in fact i was looking back through this blog and remembered a tuesday may 21 2013 40 things to do before aaaaaah i think 39 may actually be worse than 40 a whole year of anticipating dreading that number that means you re not young anymore officially i ve spent the last 3 months coming to understand the mid life crisis and sympathizing just a bit more with balding men in flashy sports cars it sucks it s not that i m afraid of getting older well i guess i kind of am i m just not ready to be referred to as that older lady i find i m more careful about how i dress how i do my hair what i say because suddenly i have to consider am i too old for that or will it look like i m trying to hard but then i also don t want to look like i m not trying at all shudder we ve all been seen her at the store in mom jeans and an 80 s crop looking all worn out and mousy not me at least not every time enter the list i know it s not exactly original in fact being not exactly original myself i turned to the internet for some inspiration on what to include on my list i discovered two things a lot of british women make 40 things lists and a lot of people websites who publish such lists advocate things that i don t care to see do know they exist ahem i suggest you don t search the internet for a 40 things list that said it did get me thinking about what i d like to accomplish in the next 9 months some things are silly some are sorta serious some might actually help me to improve and some are just plain frivolous but they re all mine that s a word i haven t uttered in oh say 11 and a half years i m completely out of the habit of thinking about me that s not to say i m completely selfless that should probably be on my list but i ve been lazy about setting goals and working to accomplish them my aim has been more about getting through the day a valid prospect when there are many littles in your life but probably not 363 ish days of every year i ve debated publishing the list here because then all 3 of you who read this blog will know how silly frivolous unaccomplished i am but if it s here then it s real and i can t hide from it or pretend i didn t really intend to do the things on it so here goes 40 things to do before 40 read the book of mormon lose 30 pounds let my hair grow out try sushi eat at 6 different ethnic restaurants try yoga run a 5k make at least 60 entries in my journal buy a real piano learn to play at least 1 2 25 of the hymns in the hymnbook after actually checking the hymnbook i decided to be a bit more realistic learn to play one song not in the hymnbook buy an outfit i really want regardless of price own the perfect pair of jeans highlight my hair build something say hello and give a compliment to at least 10 people every day do one craft project every week give away one per month volunteer at least once in 3 different organizations get away with sam learn to digital scrapbook blog once a week ah now you see why we re here read a classic novel go swimming pretend i m self confident until i am self confident do one thing that scares me in a good way get a massage karaoke at home not in a bar but in front of people go on a date with each of my kids learn to do a front flip on the trampoline don t die make a meal for another family once a month be perfect in one thing visiting teaching making my bed not picking my nose just one update the way i do my makeup let my kids see me be silly more often see 27 hold hands with sam every day attend a cultural event yes i ve done this before but it ought to be an annual thing at least go on a family hike do something that surprises people writing this post doesn t count attend the temple 8 times find and do temple work for one ancestor speak softly smile more tha...
