november 17 2009 by exposure2009 with the onset of globalization there has been much ado about the world becoming a global village markets resources and labor have opened up for western capitalist ventures and technology has been driving the greater flow of information worldwide in the increasingly intertwined economies crisis in developed countries economy diffuses to the global stage affecting the political economy of developing countries as shown by the latest recession in the united states however there is also a migration of ideas contained in the bodies of activists and community organizers that are swept along with the migration of people from the third world in contrast to the western corporations move to cheaper countries for industry the migration of workers from peripheral economies to core economies usher in a movement of progressive politics through broad based effort mass migration contains both worker and activist component and the greater flow of information via the internet facilitates communication between community organizers there is a growing recognition that to successfully struggle against globalized systematic oppression community organizers must not only identify these global systems of oppression but also learn from each other and form transnational alliances to learn and support one another and movements abroad in june 2009 i and two other filipinas went back home to the philippines the trip was an immersion in several communities in the philippines including the urban poor the rural countryside and the indigenous tribes in the mountains gabriela philippines a national alliance of women s organization throughout the philippines hosted us and included us in organizing campaigns in daily living conditions of the communities and educational workshops on critical pedagogy i studied their forms of organizing and movement to begin with three inquiries first what are the antecedents of popular democratic movements in the philippines second what are different community organizing strategies and critical education tactics does the philippine national democratic movement employ third what is the role of feminism in this movement and how is the women s movement revising or crafting new forms of feminist engagement ultimately the objective in investigating these areas of inquiry is to see what are the emerging roles and functions of women and feminist mobilization and organization in national democratic movements in global struggles the hope is that progressive forces here in the united states may be able to learn from and link up with transnational movements abroad posted in uncategorized leave a comment table of contents november 17 2009 by exposure2009 i theoretical framework what progressive
