particularly to bind our echoes that we may be whole you seem to have such an affection for the characters that shines through every chapter and they are utterly captivating because of it have you spoken much about your writing process for each chapter if not i am curious how you go about it sections of the comics seem so densely layered and yet economical in their storytelling that i must assume a lot of work went into the planning fireflysummers answered thank you i really appreciate hearing that 3 i ve talked a little bit before about crafting the actual dialogue for the chapters i ve also shared my planning document for the whole story but i m always happy for an opportunity to talk more about the process i m always worried about coming across as self aggrandizing and pretentious so i tend not to go in depth about the process unless i ve been asked directly or have some other specific thought that i m trying to articulate when i started this comic i made the decision that every chapter would be 3 6 pages in length no more no less the number was arbitrary but it was designed to prevent scope creep this limitation also demands that i be a lot smarter about my storytelling there s no space for rehashing information the audience knows and even the slower quiet moments provide characterization and help maintain momentum the visual aspects of the comic medium help alleviate that burden as well allowing me to introduce storytelling elements without needing to textually point them out i e the green prince wearing the pristine core of the cogwork dancer as a necklace as for the overarching story the whole thing is more or less planned out but the specific pacing and even the order of some events are still subject to change i ve mentioned in another post that this comic was never intended to be so ambitious the whole thing happened because i made a joke about how the green prince deserved a himbo mantis boyfriend and then reverse engineered the conditions to get him there however that level of reverse engineering applies to almost every single one of the other characters as well i knew from the start where i wanted all of them to land and the plot arose as a result of trying to figure out how they would get there not sure if i answered your ask as you wanted but hopefully got into the ballpark manythanks for asking and
