after seeing not one but two kids in moe s last night i ve decided to re run this post get a babysitter or buy a six pack and go home kids do not belong in bars i know this topic has been discussed ad nauseum in other forums see links below but i had my first run in with a baby at my local watering hole moe s last night yes i m talking to you mid thirties mom with the baby bjorn sitting on the bench near the front of the bar i know this has been a park slope issue for years and i knew eventually our time would come but i m hoping parents will come to their senses and not destroy the last semblance of adult fun left in this town to me it s simple kids do not belong in bars now i love babies but i just don t think the bar is an appropriate place to take them when you make the decision to have a child there are certain sacrifices you have to make you sacrifice sleep you sacrifice time you sacrifice money all these sacrifices are nothing relative to the elation and joy of being a parent i feel that one more sacrifice you have to make is going out to bars at least with the child ren a drinking establishment where patrons have to be 21 years of age or older is not the place to come hang out with your kids maybe a restaurant with a liquor license but not a bar get a bottle of wine and go home go to the coffee shop meet up in the park stay out of bars please i m not always on air and no compelling news other than of course the groundbreaking for atlantic yards but we all knew that would happen eventually i figured i d re run an old post on bike shops i ve visited both bespoke and bicycle station and my preference is still bicycle station after getting a few services from them tune up handlebars shortened purchased a new pump now i really only stop by bespoke to get free air since they are so centrally located one of the guys at bespoke rubbed me the wrong way when he asked me to take a cell phone call outside it s a bike shop not a library or a restaurant i ve decided to take my money outside too the old post reading the clintonhillblog s coverage of the new bespoke bicycle shop on lafayette reminded me of my recent visit to what i feel is a far superior shop bicycle station i recently got my bike which i bought there in 2003 tuned up there and i must say the service as always is friendly fast and knowledgeable the store used to be located in prospect heights on vanderbilt and has relocated to park between carlton adelphi while i did have a chance to chat with the owner of bespoke when i inquired about their services i tried to stop by last tuesday at lunch time and they didn t open until 2 00 that reminded me i was neglecting the shop that s been around for years simply because i was curious about the new spot i proceeded to go immediately to bicycle station and i m happy with the decision while i m sure bespoke is a fine shop i can say with full confidence that bicycle station has a much better selection larger staff cheaper prices and a longer history in the area whether you need a new bike or a repair whether you ride a mountain bike fixed gear road bike cruiser they have it check out reviews on yelp categories outdoor activities i never made it over to fresh fanatic washington park today i contemplated driving out to my normal store fairway to stock for this supposed snowstorm then i remembered the fact that we have a little mini fairway in the hood now i must say i was impressed with fresh fanatic now it is by no means fairway but they have everything you need they may not carry 500 different types of olive oil or 450 different cheeses but they will surely have at least one you will like the produce was fresh with plenty of organic options to choose from the meat fish poultry section had so prime cuts and the staff was helpful i also like the aesthetic of the store not quite sure about where they placed certain things but it s a small store so it s easy to get around you can pretty much get everything you need and be out of the store in 15 minutes see how long it takes you to navigate fairway even when it s empty and last but not least the prices were very reasonable at least when compared to a green grocer market my closest bodega have extended their hours my initial concerns seem to have been overblown while prices are slightly higher they have expanded the inventory increased selection extended hours
