through tlg and the thing is ilya never actually even brings up coming out to shane ilya is borderline incoherent in the boxing day fight he absurdly from shane s perspective asks shane to go to a party with his team and says he s lonely and has no one then he tuns around and accuses shane of wanting hockey more than him he then kicks shane out shane s take away is that ilya is having a mental health crisis that he s lonely and isolated that he feels like its too much of a sacrifice to be with shane they partially resolve this before the plane crash where shane very directly asks if ilya is doing okay because yeah that was a pretty wild emotional moment and ilya says he s in therapy they agree to touch base on this more later then the plane crash and shane comes to the conclusion completely independently that he s sick of being in the closet i also speculate he s worried about ilya in general at this point when shane pitches it to ilya it s almost like he s expecting ilya to
