asking for a special meeting of electors regarding tree removal by the city to construct a junior oval as part of the hilton park redevelopment project the petition asks for consideration of the following that council immediately halt all clearing and mature tree removals across the city of fremantle specifically including the destruction of mature trees at hilton reserve and mandate that any future infrastructure sports or masterplan developments must be redesigned to prioritise 100 retention of mature urban canopy under the local government act section 5 28 electors may call a special meeting at the request of no less than 300 electors to be held within 35 days the meeting will be held at the fremantle town hall on tuesday 15 september 2026 at 6 30pm under the act any resolution passed at the special meeting of electors should be considered by council at its next ordinary meeting which will be on wednesday 23 september 2026 due to this request the city will now pause killing 2 977 people i remember that day so very well when i was station surfing my tv that evening and noticed the burning tower there was no sound initially so i believed it was a movie but then all the other tv stations started live crossings with commentary so for many hours i watched in absolute disbelief tears streaming down my face the madness of what people are willing to do to each other i watched the second plane slam into the second tower watched both towers collapse into heaps of rubble with so many people still in them it was devastating one of the worst things i have ever witnessed twenty five long years ago in my little townhouse in swanbourne street just around the corner from monument hill i questioned humanity and the sanity of human beings so much hate so much disrespect how can we lose control over our emotions and actions so badly that we simple stop to care about human life and people are just collateral damage in the never ending wars of hatred i was neither naive nor ignorant and well aware of the holocaust where millions of jewish people had been killed by hitler s nazis and the so called carpet bombing of iran the killing fields the slaughter during the serbian croation war etc etc we do not learn because bigoted narrow minded zealots have taken over the world donald trump starts wars at the click of his fingers vladimir putin continues his attack on ukraine and benjamin netanyahu is doing his hardest to surpass hitler s atrocities by killing 75 000 civilian palestinians while israeli soldiers are trying to erase gaza from the map and make it unlivable will this madness this hatred ever stop will the world pause just for a while to do some really deep thinking about where we are going we have become self destructive at almost every level we no longer care for the future and keep raping our planet because of our greed selfishness and sense of entitlement we have lost the plot totally democarcy appears not to be working any more because those we put in charge are not doing the things we elected them for hence people are desperate for alternatives sadly deciding to search solutions in the far right of politics a direction that creates more anger more disrespect for others and that has no viable options for a better future so what is the answer should we just give up i hoped during covid that it would become a time of self reflection and asking if what we are doing each and every one of us is the best we can do for ourselves and others could there be a shift in our attitude more appreciation for other less negativity and judgment how wonderful that would have been but instead we see so much nastiness on social media that i often despair it is not hard to reach out to others to connect and be open minded we have to lose the fear of other cultures and religions in the knowledge that the vast majority of people are really good peaceful and contributing people we all want to be respected and loved and make the best out of our limited time on this planet we need to learn to be more tolerant more accepting and we need to chill violence is never ever a solution to any problem killing innocent people is murder no matter if it is done by terrorists or nations wrong is wrong it is always wrong my only hope a very minor one is what i see happening in fremantle we are so lucky to live in this amazing little city where so many people really deeply care about others and the world we live in on this very small scale there is still hope but will it spread from here to other cities and countries and will hatred be
